We are going in late Jan. and plan to visit US/IOA and were thinking since they have these tickets where you can visit both parks in one day...."can you really enjoy both parks in 1 day??? I know the crowds will be low but I am assuming the hours will be shortened too.

Since you are going during a slow time I would say it would be easy to do in 1 day but if you could I would suggest 2 days cause I feel so rushed if I only have one day to get everything in and you don't have much time to take in the great themeing that Universal has :thumbsup2

if you have only one day and it is slow season, you could see the highlights of both parks.

you would miss out on many things though.

if your main and only desire are to do particular rides, yes, it can be done in one day.

We plan on going to US/IOA for one day, at the end of May, after Memorial Day, probably on a Thursday. Is it still possible to do many of the rides?

We've been to US in Hollywood many times and therefore wouldn't be going on Jaws, Shrek 4D, Jurassic Park, ET or T2:3D

We'd like to do:

Spider Man
Hulk
Popeye
Dudley Do-Right
Cat in the Hat
The Simpsons
Men in Black
Mummy

and if we have time
Sinbad and Poseidon and Twister

Is this possible? Thanks!

i suggest if you are staying off site, to get to the parking garage by 7:45 and wait in line until the garage opens at 8:00.
you should be about the 4th or 5th car in line waiting.

once the garage parking lot opens, you will be parked and walking thru city walk within 5 minutes.
you can reach the turnstile for IOA by 8:20 if you are slow walkers.

the official time of opening is 9:00.
many many times, they will let you in around 8:30ish.

hit the main rides to the left as you go over the bridge past Port of Entry.

you can have the first seat for Hulk most likely.
and you can do repeats without waits.

IOA will have more rides open when they let you in.
the studios side does not have as much open if you are let in early.
also, there are certain dates that some rides do not open at 9 at that park.
jaws, T2, mummy, are a few i can think of.

do the rides you listed first at IOA, then proceed to the studios side.
everything should be open at that time of the day for you.

crowds generally start around 10:30 to 11:00 ish at the parks.
you will have none or little waits prior to that time period.

be sure to pick up a park map guide to check the times for the shows.
you might want to add a few things to your list once you are in the park.

spiderman ride is kewl. the park guide map will list the times of the day the fantastic 4 make an appearance in front of the spidey ride.
great meet and greet photo shoot opportunity.

you listed some of the water rides.
i don't know if you want to do the ones at IOA before you go to the studios side.
you will get really wet on the popeye ride and dudley do right doesn't let you off the hook either on staying dry.

there are heaters being installed for after the popeye ride.
i read an article about it that it costs $3-4
not sure when the heaters will be in operation or if they are now.

i think you can do both parks and hit the rides you listed without an issue.

the main thing is to be at the parks very early and start the rides before the official opening time.
no crowds, no lines means you can get a lot done quickly.

i have found that tuesday, wednesday and thursday to be good days to avoid long wait lines.

schools in the north where i live, don't get out of school until mid june.
i have no idea how soon the florida schools let out for the summer break.

families tend to take their florida vacations around their kids school schedules.

hope you have a great time at the parks!!

come back and brag about the fun you had when your trip is over

That's what I was looking for, thank a lot!

We're actually doing a week at WDW and thought we would take a day out to do US/IOA since we've never been there. We're taking advantage of the Dreams Unlimited deal that included round-trip transportation from a Disney area hotel.

i'm glad i could help.

i have seen the promo on the transportation/ticket deal dreams unlimited has started.
let us know if you like the transportation they use.

i know mears charges $16 per person roundtrip from the disney resort to universal and back.

i am guessing dreams unlimited is a better deal all around for you.

hope you enjoy your vacation at both places!

Do you know if that "deal" includes the transportation to and from if you do the other ticket special? Or is is for just one day??

Probably just for the one day...I'm guessing but I wouldn't imagine it would include round trip transportation for seven days.

i went to the transportation forum to get the basics on the dreams unlimited deal.

it is for a one day ticket for universal and round trip transportation provided.
it is as follows:

so, a person will pay $85.99 plus tax and shipping for a one day, 2 park ticket and transportation from your disney resort to universal and back.

it must be pre order online.
advance ticket sales only

the transportation does more than one hotel pick up at disney.
transportation time can vary.

since dreams unlimited is one of the sponsors or supporters of the disboards, i'm sure the Mears transportation is reliable.

there are other ways to get from disney to universal but some people might prefer it having it set up in advance with a company they can trust.

Do you know what time the valet parking opens? It may be worth a few bucks to avoid the hike back and forth to the garage. Any idea where a taxi would drop off if we went with that option?

We are using the Mears service with the special deal right now. I am assuming it will be quicker than parking at the garage....as far as getting to the gate.

the mears transports and the taxis will drop you off at the drop off area.
it is closer in than the garage.

valet is more than just a couple of bucks...

parking in the garage is $12.
valet will be more than that!

Yes...this was taken at the main parking garage hub (where the baggage check is located). It's a little hard to see but this is the taxi, bus and guest drop off point:

I am looking at a map that shows a valet parking area near the Loews cinema complex. Where exactly is this baggage check area?
