Travelocity or Orbitz or Expedia

Hi, I picked my flight but don't know whether to use travelocity, orbitz or expedia. We always book direct with Southwest but need to use another airline for a connecting flight. Also, should I get the flight insurance? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd actually check the airline's own website, and book through them if the price is the same. If there are any schedule changes, or you need to change anything, it will be much easier for you to deal directly with the airline, rather than a travel agent (which is what Travelocity, Expedia, or Orbitz becomes).

I second using the airlines' website. Fewer headaches if there's a problem.

Over the years I have booked airfare, hotel, cars you name it on Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz. If I am trying to save a buck, I just go with whomever is offering the best deal at the time. All three are reliable, although I prefer Expedia and Travelocity. If you don't have an airline preference, I would check all all 3, as they offer an airline search, which could take alot of time if you have to check each individual airline. Also, if you have any problems they have customer service number where you can speak to an agent and they will assist you too same as booking direct with an airline! Good luck.

I agree use the airlines website. If there is a problem you can't deal directly with the airline using one of those travel companies.

Expedia is a good site for checking options, but you are usually better off booking directly with the airline. However, there have been a couple airlines that made it so difficult to book directly that I gave up and just went through Expedia.

May be reading too much into this statement, but are you trying to use a different airline to connect to a SW flight - or flying SW then trying to connect to another airline? (apologies if I've mis-interpreted your question)

I'm trying to get back to the Philadelphia airport after my Adventures by Disney trip which dumps us at the Grand Junction Co airport. I really hate multiple flights, so I booked a non stop Southwest flight from Denver to Philadelphia but need to get from GJT to Den somehow. I've flown Southwest only for the last five years and am really worried about booking with any other airline.

Ahh.... wondered if it was something like that.
I believe that Southwest does not interline with many/any airlines (think WestJet is it). Among other things I believe that means that SW won't accept bags from another airline for a connection, thus you would need to claim your bag in Denver and check it with SW there like your travel originated there (allowing adequate time for this). The lack of interline agreements means SW doesn't recognize or care about your flight from Grand Junction to Denver ..... they wouldn't see that flight and your complete itinerary in their system (unlike a ticket for connecting flights on 2 carriers who do interline) . This could also cause complications if your flight into Denver was late, causing you to miss the SW flight, or if you get in too late to claim luggage and re-check prior to the cut-off (usually 45 minutes before a flight).

Personally, I'd look at using and airline in Grand Junction that can handle a connection to get you to Philly (there are probably a couple legacies that can do that) OR rent a car in Grand Junction and drive to Denver to pick up your SW flight..... Looks like ~275 miles and a pretty straight shot on I-70

I've been trying for months to find a decent flight out of grand junction to phl and gave up since most involved three flights. We really like and trust Southwest and are going to take a 5:40 direct flight back to Philly from Denver. Our flight will arrive in Denver at 2:04(98 % on time arrival) and we should be able to get our luggage and check in again in 3 1/2 hours. This 57 minute flight is the most expensive part of our flight but my husband refuses to rent a car and drive.

We have been so spoiled by our short flights to Orlando every year but we'll be back in 2010.

In my direct experience with travelocity and orbitz, they add a fee. Since they generally start with the exact same price as the airline website states, once that fee is added they cost more. So there's just no point in using them for a normal flight if the prices start the same.
