We did the unthinkable! We Left the teenagers home: DH & I do Disney solo:update 1/15

Okay I'll admit it...I wouldn't be able to drive CarX if my life depended on it. My dad took me out once and then came back and told my mom that we just need to make sure she drives automatics for the rest of her life LOL

Can't wait to hear about what happens when you get to Disney!!

I too am taking a car with me so I'm hoping to avoid the long lines and waits and have my car to make sure I get on time to where I need to go!

One of the many nice things about having an AP is that you don't have to check in before hitting the world. I really wanted DH to see the Jammin Jungle Christmas Parade (or whatever its called) at AK. I saw it last Jan on my solo trip and I really liked it. I know some people think its just a decorated version of the regular parade, and it is, but I still think it has Christmas Spirit.

I felt like a little kid when we got to AK. I brought shorts in my carry on, to change into, but it was cool, so shorts were not necessary. So I switched into my mickey crocs and off we went.

This was the first official picture I took at AK. I just felt so refreshed to see some foliage now that the dark days of winter had settled upon the NorthEast
DisneyDecember2008319.jpg

Ofcourse, we needed to take the obligatory Christmas tree pics
DisneyDecember2008322.jpg

DisneyDecember2008320.jpg

Another nice thing about an AP is that you don't mind using it to go into a park for 2 hours. We arrived at AK about 3pm and the parade started at 3:45. Light crowds were already lining up along the parade route. We (actually I) decided we might as well get in on some photopass action, so we got a pic from the first photog we found.

Obviously taken with our camera. I'm sure his photo is nicer
DisneyDecember2008327.jpg

I have no idea why we have those perplexed expressions on our faces. I think I was trying to explain the whole photopass thing to DH while we were getting our picture taken. This photographer did have us pose for one of the magic shots. We really didn't get enough pictures to justify buying the disc, but I think I would like to purchase the magic shot.

Here are some pics I took before we staked out our spot for the parade

We also meandered in and out of a few gift shops. We toyed with taking a quick ride on dinosaur, but I definately did not want to miss the start of the parade. So we walked over to Asia, where we met another photopass photog, and got a few more pics there......

Now I know my pics aren't as nice as Paula's, but I was definately trying to use a more artistic approach to my photos. However, my artistic expression had to be cut short because it was TIME FOR THE PARADE!

Here is a brief montage of some parade photos. Warning - there is no Mickey Mouse! Why - You ask - THE BATTERY'S IN THE CAMERA DIED! Just like that. Of course, all the rechargeables were dead, too. DH tried desperately to get some backup alkalines, but he couldn't get through the line in time.

DisneyDecember2008369.jpg

I swear - I kept feeling like none of the characters looked over at our side of the parade route. At least Goofy did. We were right across from a handicapped section, so maybe they are trained to look more to that side. I don't know - I just had a hard time getting good pics from our location. :confused3

DH was still inside a store trying to purchase backup batteries when the parade ended. I went in to join him and felt it was necessary to make my first purchase. I have a Mickey coffee mug that I use almost every morning. I bought the matching Minney mug. I will have the kids give it to me for Christmas.

It was about 4:30 when we made our way over to Dinosaur. I would say crowds were medium. It wasn't crazy busy like AK can get. Still, I thought there might be a hefty standby line for EE, so we decided on a quick trip to the Crustaceous period to find our dino!

DisneyDecember2008372.jpg

I have to post this warning sign because I just started taking medication for high blood pressure. So everywhere I went my eyes were immediately drawn to the high blood pressure warnings. I am a little frustrated that I have to take medication, but what's a gal to do.! I know - a quick BP raising ride on Dinosaur to see how well my Toprol works!

I took a few more pics as we were leaving the park. It was close to park closing and we decided it would be best to have Ellie direct us to the French quarter. Not that I couldn't have done just as good a job as Ellie!)

Up next - Our Adults Only evening at the FQ. And what did DH lose now??????? :sad2:

]Okay I'll admit it...I wouldn't be able to drive CarX if my life depended on it. My dad took me out once and then came back and told my mom that we just need to make sure she drives automatics for the rest of her life LOL

That's what was so funny about Car X. Did they win it in a lottery????? Why would that car be in their fleet? You know, I never checked the mileage. I bet it was really low, cause everyone returned it. I will say, it got excellent gas mileage. :drive:

When i graduated from college the first car I bought was a stick. I couldn't even drive it. My mother had to drive it off the lot! :lmao: We went to a park so I could learn how to drive it. There were some guys there laughing their as---- off because I kept stalling e]verytime I got on an incline! :rotfl2:

I have yet to see the AK parade... I really want too!! I guess its a good thing that DS favorite park is AK... I won't have an excuse to miss it this time:thumbsup2

Very pretty:goodvibes The only plants I seem to notice right now are the trees threatening my vehicles:lmao: And they have no foliage at all!!

Well thanx for the compliment:flower3: I think these 2 pics are really nice. I never noticed that bike before.. I like it:thumbsup2 And I think that you picked a great angle for the Monkey Shrine... It looks so different from that side, most people (self included:rotfl: ) seem to take it from the front with EE behind it... I like yours better:worship: :worship:

I think he's flirting with you!! he's really cute:lovestruc

I don't know what it is... but something about Minnie having a "lollipop nose' totally cracks me up:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

I Love this ornament!!! i want one:goodvibes

No - that is totally cool. I love what you did with it. I am not that creative and I don't quite have the computer "know - how", so I appreciate having my own editor. :wizard: Keep it up! :flower3:

I'll be back later to post. I want to keep going, but I really have to do some decorating for Christmas. I didn't do a blessed thing before we left, except buy one big poinsetta from Costco. Yeah - I know poinsettas are poisonous for cats, but my cats never go near them, so I feel safe!

p.s. I went back and looked at your work a second time and it looks awesome - love it!

Thanks for your TR. I really enjoy your style of writing. DH and I are going on our last adult only trip to WDW that we'll have for a looooooong time. We check-in 3 weeks from today!

Oh - I guess you will be going on your last adult only trip for awhile! ;) Good for you. I hope you both have an awesome time. I definately wish I had traveled more before I had kids. One of the coolest things I got to do before my DS15 was born, was travel to New Zealand and Tahiti. I went when I was between 17 - 20 weeks pregnant. I was very nervous about traveling, but DH said he was going without me, so I decided to go on "this once in a lifetime trip". It was really a great trip and I'm so glad I went.

Thanks for joining in on my trip report!

Yes, I'll be about 24 weeks pregnant. We'll be in Florida for a month. We are lucky as we have done quite a bit of travelling before now. We are looking forward to whole new adventures with kiddies.

Well congratulations - Your first baby is so special because it is a whole new world. :grouphug: You are also fortunate to be spending a month in Florida. I would kill ( not literally) for that! :worship:

I have no real poinsettias, just silk ones. They're so pretty though:goodvibes

Hills and dales in Florida????? Maybe not. When I left off we were just leaving AK to go check in for one night at POFQ. I booked the room with an AP discount. Actually, the wonderful TA I use at the South Carolina AAA booked the room for me with the AP discount. I discovered this TA here on the boards and she is really good. So if anyone ever needs a good AAA TA, pm me and I will forward her info to you.

What I like about this agent is that when she books the room, AAA pays for it, and then I pay AAA. This is handy because I get quarterly rewards from my AAA credit card, so I was able to apply my reward certificate to the room. As it turns out, she booked me a room with a king sized bed. I generally do not like to spend extra money for preferred locations, water views, or larger beds, but this was $15 well spent.

I was pretty excited to see POFQ. I wanted to unpack and go explore. I was thinking about grabbing dinner in the food court, at Boatwrights, or at the ESPN club on the boardwalk. And I was getting hungry.

Unfortunately, DH had other plans. Remember how DH left his sunglasses near our neighbor's mailbox? Well - it turns out he also left his belt in the Phila airport when he took it off for security. Doh! :confused3 He decided that he would not be able to live another hour without a belt. :scared1: "Come on", I exclaimed, "Can't this wait until tomorrow". Nope, un uh, no can do. DH had to have the belt the second after we checked into POFQ (which - by the way, there was NOOOOOOO line at check-in :wizard: ).

We were given a room in Building 1, which is all the way to the right of the complex, closest towards the direction of DTD. I really wanted to see the room, but instead we asked Ellie to help us find a clothing store. Ellie may be good at locating fast food places and hotels, but she wasn't very helpful in finding a belt!

While we were driving around looking for a stupid belt, I realized I was getting seriously hungry. I hadn't eaten anything since a breakfast sandwich in the airport. (Airline pretzels do not count!) I quickly realized that I was not going to be eating on Disney property. :headache: I had a short 2 1/2 hours of "the magic" and I was already being sucked out of it to find a stupid belt. Fortunately we stumpled upon a Vanity Fare outlet (no thanks to Ellie). I generally like VF, and I was saddened when they closed the one in Wilmington, DE, but at the moment I was in no mood for VF. I prompted DH to hurry himself along. "Did you forget anything else, dear, socks maybe?" (DH always runs out of socks - socks and underwear) So DH grabbed himself a pack of socks, but alas, I should have asked specifically about underwear. :guilty:

When we got back in the car I announced to DH that I needed to eat - NOW! I am not a big fan of fast food, but I like Chik fil a and Taco bell. TB happened to be on the right side of the street, so it was a sharp right to the drive through. I inhaled that food. Seriously, it was gone in about 90 seconds flat!

After TB, we went into that super expensive Gooding's market near DTD. That place is ridiculous. Seriously, there was a display with trail mix. They were selling small bags of trail mix for $13. Who would buy that?????? Dh and I started laughing and joking around about the prices. We bought muffins for the am ($1 each), beer, water, and entenmann's chocolate chip cookies. Here's a tip - if you ever find yourself at this overpriced excuse for a supermarket, buy Entenmann's. Why - because the prices are already on the food and the store can't mark them up anymore. Case in point - A package of Oreo's was $6.00. :scared1:

Finally, we were on our way back to the FQ.

Here is DH, VF bag with belt and socks in hand

Our room location was truely great. We had a corner room that was as close to the water as it could be. It was really lovely. I was disappointed that we were only staying one night. I really fell in love with POFQ and I understand why it is so popular on the boards.

Now that we had arrived we decided to do a little exploring. Here are some night time pics of the pool area.

This hot tub area looked so great, but it was about 45 degrees out. The lifeguards looked like they were in snow suits

DH and I decided to keep walking through the resort and right on over to Riverside. We stayed at Riverside in 2003. It was our first on site trip and it was the trip that made me a Disney addict for life. I have special, fond memories of Riverside because I truely experienced my first touch of the magic there.

Here is a picture of the tree in the Riverside lobby

Available in the gift shop for purchase
DisneyDecember2008398.jpg

A quick stop in the lounge - yum!
DisneyDecember2008397.jpg

And this gentleman was in the lobby helping to make memories

DisneyDecember2008399.jpg

After visiting the gift shop and the lounge we went out to walk the remainder of the property. Even though it was cold, there was not wind and the air was dry. It was a perfect evening for a refreshing walk.

OK - I have to admit - I enjoy decorated windows. I don't know how cool it is to take pictures of those windows, but I figure if you decorate your window, then they are fair game. I did use the zoom to get these pics. I wasn't peeping

After our Riverside tour, we returned to FQ for a few more pics

Well, I am thinking I am probably at my 25 pic limit, so I'm going to put a close to this chapter. DH and I did consider a quick trip into Epcot to watch Illuminations, but by the time we completed our exploring it was close to 9pm and we didn't feel like doing a mad dash to Epcot. So we went to our quiet, cozy room with the king sized bed! ;)

You are also fortunate to be spending a month in Florida. I would kill ( not literally) for that! :worship:

We are extremely lucky! The only thing that's really costing anything is the week at Disney and even then we got the 4/3 deal. My parents have a place down there where they winter, so we're going down with them.

That 4/3 deal is great! I wish I could do it this summer! I am trying to get my brother and his family to take advantage of it, but they bought a new house and haven't been able to sell their old house, so they can't do it. I can't wait until I can spend the winters in Florida. Your folks have the right idea.

Paula - Please know you are free to edit any of my future photos. I really need to learn how to do that. I may want to turn my DH into gnome when you hear what he does next.
