What's the Latest on the Pool?

I tried searching but kept getting hung up, so I'll do this the lazy way. . .

Does anyone know what's going on with the Meadows pool? I had heard (but don't remember where) that renovations were going to start next month and would be done by spring break. Is that still correct (assuming it ever was)? What are the renovations expected to be?

The last rumor I heard was that the work would begin in January, and be done by spring break time (March?). The new pool is supposed to have a zero entry feature (where you can walk in to it gradually), and be shallower than the current pool. There is also supposed to be a slide, and some water features.

We will see next month if the rumored start date is accurate.

I spoke to a Disboard member during my Halloween trip who saw a crew of engineer types with plans and such walking all around the pool area. Supposedly there are some photos to go along with this story, but I haven't seen them yet.

Thanks TCD! You're a wealth of information. Let us know what you see next time you're there. I have no doubt that if the renovation is underway, the TCD camera will be busy.

I was just about to post the same question!! Thanks...great mind think alike...I was told that the construction was starting in Jan. Features include a splash pad for the younger kids...and some type(s) of slide. Also hot tubs if the rumours are true...lets all pray they are!!

Thanks for the update.

When I saw the first mention of the pools being upgraded at FW I was hoping they would be done by our trip this month.

Oh well.

The funny thing is - our kids loved the pool at FW without the slides etc. (probably because they don't know better).

I'm still bitter the River Country is closed, but I realize that it the personal problem of a man stuck in the 70's.:rolleyes1

You can believe this,,
the very day, the very moment, that they would start work onna new Fort Pool, it WILL be ALL OVER these boards, you won't have to ask about it.

It's just my opinion that it won't happen, from what I saw or understand, Disney never did give a definite on the pool,, it seemed to be more speculation on everyones part except Disneys. Just my opinion.:confused3

I agree that the moment work begins on the pool, it will be reported right here.

I disagree that the pool renovation is not going to happen. I believe it is going to happen, and that it will be done before Easter '09. This article in the Orlando Sentinel seems to be pretty accurate:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/custom/tourism/orl-disney2508aug25,0,5980177.story

One point of interest about this story is that the article questioned the wisdom of spending money on the Fort when gas prices were so high. Well, gas prices are now at a five year low, and I think that WDW management is right that RV'ing will continue to be popular.

In case that link doesn't work, this is what is said about the pool renovation in the article:

Disney also is adding a themed water-slide and splash-zone attraction to The Meadows area pool. Fort Wilderness abuts River Country, Disney World's original water park, which closed a few years ago. Now designers and engineers are looking over what's left of that park, and they're thinking about moving and recycling the park's signature water tower to the Fort Wilderness pool and building a slide into it.

Now, I do question whether the River Country water tower is big enough to be used for a water slide. I don't think so. But, I still believe that the pool will be done.

We will all know for sure in the next 90 days.
