Is it a bad sign for the vacation when you faint on the plane? COMPLETED!

I need to take this advice as well because I really want a room in the Mansion section of Port Orleans Riverside. Nothing else will do!

I can't wait to see pictures of your room.

Not to hijack, but have you made your request yet on your ressie, LL? I need to call and do mine soon.

I also love seeing the WDW arch and then all of the street signs. That truly says Disney to me (literally! :lmao: ).

Good tips in this chapter, Miss Heidi! I am liking the laminated map. I am a laminating fool at home not sure why I didn't connect that to my Disney obsession. :confused3 And I also like the polite but firm approach. Now I just have to figure out what I should ask for!

Looking forward to more. Glad your internet issues are fixed!

I have! The lady was very nice about it when I mentioned that's where I wanted to stay and she's like I can request that now for you. I figured I'd wait until it got closer. I also asked if I should pay for the water view if it would "help" me get it and she said I should be able to get it without paying extra so that was nice of her I thought.

That was nice of her. I really don't think you will have a problem getting a mansion room. I think there are more mansion rooms than AB rooms anyway.

Good for you on being firm, and polite. I'm sure they get a lot of people who aren't that, and it's good when you stand your grand and get what you need, you know? :thumbsup2

The problem with paying for water view IMO at Disney is that it can be a river, canal, pool or lake. The only time I think I will ever pay for water view is for the ocean, like we did in Hawaii. And the added problem with Disney water view at values and moderates is that the hallway is right by your windows so to get the view you lose your privacy. My DH feels the need to keep the curtains closed the whole time when we stay at Disney so I'm starting to learn that 'view' is never going to matter for us until we can stay Deluxe.

Making a mental note: Firm but polite! (I have some similar requests for POR about what section I need to be in. Not want, NEED!)

HI Heidi!!!

I followed you over from LL's TR...I'm glad I made it before it got TOO big! Thanks for the links:thumbsup2

Great report so far! I'd have been worried about the faint too... glad the DR said it was no big deal:thumbsup2

I can't wait to hear what you thought of CSR... It looks so nice, but so BIG:scared1:

Oh and congrats on the new baby!! If he/she are even close to as adorable as Liam...WOW!! He's beautiful:)

Paula
Thanks for joining us! I can only hope to have a baby as good and cute as Liam.

I never tire of seeing the welcome signs to Disney property!

I am definitely going to take your advice to heart -- this will be the first trip that I want specifics -- usually whatever is fine -- but this year I need a day bed room (Chelsea and Connor detest sleeping together) and a full balcony. I will be so polite, but oh so firm! :goodvibes
Check in as soon as possible! I really think that is the key to getting what you want.

I agree with Jackie that a Mansion room shouldn't be a problem.....remember if you go for a King room again....get a tub! When we stayed at POFQ we ended up with a river view room for free. Which I bet is common at the PO resorts because so many rooms are somewhere near the river.

I also love seeing the WDW arch and then all of the street signs. That truly says Disney to me (literally! :lmao: ).

The general WDW map that was one side is the map from the big brochure that they give you at check-in. It was really helpful with having a rental car for the first time....even if it was to just get our bearings.

Good for you on being firm, and polite. I'm sure they get a lot of people who aren't that, and it's good when you stand your grand and get what you need, you know? :thumbsup2

The best is when the people in front of you are a-holes and you're sweet...you tend to get even better service!

I also think it helps to quickly explain why you need it. Like with the tub....I have toddler, he has to have a tub to bath.

Isn't it funny that after three tries of not giving you what you want, they could indeed come up with exactly what you wanted?

Wouldn't it have been easier for that CM to just give you what you wanted in the first place???

Way to stick to it! And :thumbsup2 for being polite.

Joining in. Congratulations on the new addition (baby and house :goodvibes )
We stayed at CBR about the same time as you - Nov 1 - 7. We booked Preferred and asked my DH to request first floor when we got there. They told him that they already assign the rooms and it should have been a request on the reservation. So, we had 2nd floor, Martinique (nemo room.)
Looking forward to more.:thumbsup2

What time did you check in? Do you remember?

That is the one that we use -- I cannot say enough good things about it -- it even has the traffic lights.

That's why I say that the room your want is probably not occupied yet, just assigned to someone else. And just as an aside.....rooms reserved thru Special Services (I think that's the correct name of the Dept.) like for people with medical issues/hanicapped are locked out in the system....they can't be re-assigned like my room was, so you don't have to worry about taking that away from someone who truely needs it.

Welcome! While I do agree that it's best to have your requests on your ressies ahead of time so they have a chance to get it right the first time....it sounds like you had a CM that didn't want to do any work for you. Half of the perferred rooms are on the first floor! Unless you checked in way late I can't imagine they were all occupied....lazy CM in my opinion.

I would say that we got there between 11:30-11:45am.

That map has a few roads missing on it that Disney doesn't want you to use :rolleyes1 more on that later......

Great update!! I loved those pictures, makes me want to go back now. I can't stand it when you have to ask again and again before they give you the room you need, why do that to us? I can't wait to read more popcorn::.

Kinda makes me wonder why they bother to pre-assign rooms anyways....expect for accessible rooms of course. You think it would be easier to to just assign rooms on a first come first serve basis. That's why that new thing about checking in online ahead of time doesn't interest me....I want to know what I'm getting BEFORE you make my room key.

You want to go back already? My god woman you were just there! Twice!! I'm not a doctor but I play one on the internets and you have Disney Fever. I'm surprise you and Bill haven't bought DVC yet.

We got there about noon on a Saturday. I don't think the CM tried but I think it was because my DH didn't press the issue. I was in the rental car with my boys while he checked in. I hope he will put it on the request for the next time we go. I was just concerned about carrying the sleeping kids up to the room but it wasn't an issue. What is nice about CBR is leaving the stroller in the van so it doesn't take up any room in our room. Well, we drive everywhere - we haven't taken the bus since 2003!

Glad you guys got the room situation squared away. That wouldn't have been any fun to move after one night!

I'll make a mental note about the GPS - we'll definitely be using ours. :thumbsup2

All caught up and I'm so glad I started with the airplane faint story...the visions in my head were terrible of what happend....so I'm so relieved that you were actually in your seat! Glad you were ok quickly and I hope you have no more fainting spells this trip!

Glad that the whole checkin thing worked out for you...I agree you do need to be persistent and polite with what you are requesting at check-in. Good job and reminder.

Looking forward to more and I hope the wait wasn't too long.

Plus on the non-Disney side, glad to hear your new baby is faring well and glad that the  is starting to pass.

Take care,

scrappie:goodvibes

I'm glad it all worked out in the end. I can't see us taking the buses again until both kids can sit nicely on them.

Congratulations on the addition to your family! I'm subbing and can't wait to read more!

I really didn't wait to move rooms and in the end I would probably not have done that.

If I could find a way to get more then 5 hours of sleep a night I might be able to update more often. <insert sleepy smiley here>
