Dawa Bar, "Snack", 11.11.08

Well, it's quite fitting that this is my first "food" entry. And it's an alcoholic beverage. Just fits me well, now, doesn't it? :rotfl2:

Anyway, so I got to Animal Kingdom and did a few rides before it was parade time. And of course, I watch the parade from Africa, because then you see it twice...the second time with pretty much no one around! Sweet. And it's right by the Dawa Bar, so for me, that's just a perfect location for parade-viewing.

Anyway, so I went up to the bar, with the intention of buying the blue drink I've gotten there in the past...only it wasn't listed on the board. So I asked the bartender if they still had a blue drink, and he told me it was the Oasis - Bacardi Limon, Blue Curacao, and Sour Mix. Sounds good to me...bring it on!

Nice and lemony, and blue. I couldn't ask for more :thumbsup2

Oh geez, and so I'm going through my pics, and well, next up is another drink! Before my first meal...I have 2 drink reviews, LOL!!!

Victoria Falls, "Snack", 11.11.08

So yup, after the parade, I made my way over to the AKL for my dinner ADR at Jiko, but I got there at 5 and Jiko didn't open till 5:30. So what was I to do? Hit the bar, of course! I knew I'd have a Mount Kilamarita at Jiko, so I decided to pick something from the standardized menu...The Magical Star Coctail - X Fusion Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice, and a souvenir multi-colored glow cube...says so right here!
pic128.jpg

But alas, I *hate* coconut with a passion. So I asked them to sub Bacardi Rum instead, and that was no problem. Ooh, this thing was pretty! It was my first experience with the multi-colored glow cube, and it made an impression!

pic133.jpg

Yes, that's all the same drink, just different colors of the cube! So fun! And it was good, too. But hey, you really can't serve me much that I won't enjoy if alcohol is involved!

Oh, and for the purpose of research, I also took photos of all the drinks in the standardized menu. Just so you guys could see!

Jiko, Dinner, 11.11.08

So I checked in to Jiko right as they opened at 5:30pm, and was asked if I would like to sit at the cooking place. Of course I agreed! I had heard such good things about it, and it was definitely the right choice. Here are a couple of pictures of the chefs preparing the appetizers.

Here are a couple of the place setting
pic159.jpg

pic160.jpg

Oh, and I know people often talk about what people wear to signatures, but I didn't really take notice of anyone around me. I, however, changed into a skirt that I brought with me, and had a plain shirt, and yes, flip flops. What can I say, I only bring my flips and crocs when I go to WDW. They are kinda nicer flips, but whatever.

Aaaaanyway, so of course, I had to start with a drink. I had read about the Mount Kilamarita, and even though I normally only drink Margaritas from the stand in Mexico in Epcot, I figured I'd give it a shot. Well, I was glad I did! I really enjoyed the taste of it, the tequila actually tasted GOOD. Maybe I just need margaritas with good tequila...who knows. Also included in the picture is the water...with lemon on the side. I thought that was a really nice touch, the lemon on the side, as I hate lemon in my water and so hate when waiters assume I want it. Thumbs up.
pic161.jpg

So I had a dilemma while ordering. See, I really wanted to try the famous mac and cheese that comes with the Filet Mignon. But here's the problem - I do not eat red meat. So I asked my waiter if there was any way I could just get a side of the mac and cheese as an appetizer...and it wasn't a problem. Sweet. I was thrilled.
pic163.jpg

So for the mac and cheese itself, I dunno. Maybe it goes better with the filet and the sauce that accompanies it, but I didn't think it was anything special. It was fine, nothing wrong with it, but I guess I was expecting more.

I was also brought out a couple different types of bread with a flavored butter. I apologize, but I didn't write it down, so I don't remember the flavors of any of them. I do remember that I liked one of the breads more than the other though...the one that tasted kind of like a rye bread to me.
pic164.jpg

pic165.jpg

For my main meal, I wasn't sure what to get. I know they used to have a grains entree on the menu, that came highly recommended, but it has been replaced by a stuffed pepper. I order the stuffed pepper quite often at the Prime Time, so I really didn't feel like trying this one. Then, I thought I might go for the shrimp dish, but I got frightened by the spicyness of it. So I went with the scallops. Portland Pier Scallops - with Sweet Corn and Pea Succotash, Rocket Pesto
pic169.jpg

I have no idea what the breaded thing in the middle was, and I never got a chance to ask. But the scallops were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The best scallops I ever had were the ones at Flying Fish in May, and these were definitely up there.

So I know I should know better than to try to rush a Signature Meal, but I was alone, and I really didn't feel like sticking around. Plus, I got the idea in my head that I *needed* to make it to MGM before they closed at 7pm, so I could stop in to the Tune In Lounge, hoping I could see David.

So okay, seated at 5:30, I was actually done eating by 6:15. And I didn't feel rushed whatsoever. And I figured I'd have plenty of time to catch a bus and make it in plenty of time...well. I kept trying to get my waiter's attention, but it wasn't happening. I felt a bit ignored. Someone else was sent over to see if I wanted dessert, which I did not. And then my check was finally brought, sometime later. Well, I was finally out the front door of AKL at about 6:45pm. I gave up on the idea of the bus, and hopped in a cab as quick as I could! I told the cabbie I was trying to make it before they closed, and I don't know if he sped to help, but I *did* arrive at 6:55, and ran like the wind to the turnstiles.

Seriously. Ran. In my skirt and flip flops! And I made it!

Tune In Lounge, Alcohol, 11.11.08

Yay! So I was parched when I walked through the door of the lounge, and to my contentment, I was greeted by David behind the bar!!! He was surprised to see me, since he thought I wasn't coming back until 2009. Yay! Happy reunion! And I ordered my usual, Grandma's Picnic Punch - Grandma concocted a wonderful drink for the family picnic with vodka, peach schnapps, creme de cassis, pink lemonade and pineapple juice. Good as usual! And I got another glowing cube.
pic170.jpg

pic171.jpg

Just so happens that since it was so late, they were closing up, so they had some pineapple to get rid of. Well, I have a thing for pineapple, so here's what I got...
pic172.jpg

LOL!!! :lmao: David rocks my socks!

Oh and I know this is a food report, but well, this is kinda food related. Well, my favorite waiter, who I hadn't seen since August 2007 just happened to be picking up a drink to serve to one of his tables...and I yelled his name across the bar! He just smiled, dropped his head and laughed! Haha! So I got his schedule and moved some ADRs around so I could eat with him later in the week :thumbsup2

And I will leave you with a lovely shot of me and David :goodvibes
pic174.jpg

(oh yeah, that's NOT the shirt I wore to Jiko...I had a long sleeved solid purple shirt over it. For the signature attire police ;))

next up: lunch @Brown Derby

I'm such a sucker for a blue drink and that one looks amazing :)

Glad you enjoyed the Mount Kilamirta, I found it to be delicious! :thumbsup2

Ooo !

I hadn't seen the multi-colored glow cube before. :woohoo:

Sounds like your trip is off to a delightful start.....

Hurrah! I love your reports! You're off to a great start. And I'm so glad you got to see your favorite waiter... I know you've been looking for him on your past reports. That must be a good omen for the rest of the trip!

I really enjoyed your last report and am looking forward to more of this one!

Those cocktails look mighty good this Friday morning! I can't wait to get out of work so I can re-create one at home!

Great report so far:thumbsup2 Can't wait to read more:banana:
So far, so good, booze and Jiko, 2 of my favorite things:rotfl:
