We are going on Monday for 2 nights and 3 days. I would love to get a room upgrade. I've seen several posts in this forum mentioning that you should always ask for an upgrade when travelling because you may just be pleasantly surprised! I was wondering what exactly do I say? Do I have to say "free upgrade"? We are celebrating my DD's 7th birthday so to get a room upgrade would be very special.

Thanks.

My suggestion would be to mention your son's b-day, and simply ask if they "do anything special" for children's birthdays during a stay....:confused3

Thank you. When I called and asked them to put a note in our reservation about the birthday all the rep said was maybe your daughter will be acknowledged with a "happy birthday" at the time of check-in. Certainly not the magic that Disney offers!

We spent 4 nights/5 days at GWL in Niagara Falls this past July. It was wonderful  ... your family will love it! So much fun!! :thumbsup2

That said, we didn't see anyone acknowledged in any way for a birthday while we were there. And the lodge was PACKED during that time (at capacity every day) so you'd have thought we'd have seen a balloon or two, at least.

I do know that you can buy an "add-on" to your package for celebrating a birthday. I saw the info on their website....it comes with some decorations, food, a small cake from the on-site bakery, etc. If I remember correctly, it was around $90 for the birthday package. Might be something you want to look into.

Have fun at the Lodge! Its not Disney by any means, but still a fun time. :goodvibes

We spent four nights there this past June. When we arrived to ceck in, I asked if we could have a room overlooking the outdoor pool area. They were able to upgrade us to a fireplace loft suite for a small fee. Much less then what it would have cost us to book that room initially.
You'll have lots of fun no matter what kind of room you book!
Have lots of fun!

All of the rooms are huge and upgrading usually just means you go from no fireplace to fireplace (same room size) or to a wolf den or one of those rooms with the little bunk bed room for the kids which my kids hated. Beds were totally uncomfortable and the sheets were sewn together like a sleeping bag and were awkward for them. They have never asked for that room type again.

I would pay the extra and ask to have a fireplace room at this time of the year. The kids get cold after swimming and going back to the room and it is so nice to let them lay in front of the fire watching TV to dry off their hair, etc.

The only deal I have ever seen them throw at us when we were there was on your last night they offer you an additional night (if there is still space) for around $99. But other than that you pay for everything!

thanks for all of the advice and tips. I can't wait to go. My DD is packing already today.

I am hoping the same thing happens for us with the special offer for an additional night. I only booked the 1 night but I know we are staying 2 regardless. I'm thinking maybe because we are going on a Monday and Tuesday perhaps we have a chance at getting this deal.

It was the first weekend of December that we were offered this last year - and it was a Sunday or Monday. If there isn't a note under your door - ask!

Take nice PJ's for the kids as there is storytime in the lobby every night at 8pm and the kids wear their PJs down to the lobby. When you are checking in, have kids put their hands on the wall of the checkin counter and they will see meercats. Have kids join the cubclub (you ask for a form to fill out). You receive newsletters and they will receive a cute little bracelet for signing up. If you log onto the cubclub website (actuallyI hink it is part of greatwolflodge.com), there may be a $3 off voucher for crafts - there usually is....check!

If you don't mind leaving the waterpark for lunch, eat at the buffet. The kids price used to be actally cheaper than the waterpark fast food kids meals and the adults is only about $2 more for a buffet of healthy choices vs grease in the waterpark!

Ask if they will package the buffet breakfast into your mornings and what that would cost - the breakfast buffet is really good!

There is a Pizza Hut which has a family deal for around $25 but then we found out that you can order food from offsite and have it delivered - much cheaper and more selection!

Check-in is at 1pm but they will usually give you your writsbands for the waterpark when you arrive so take a waterpark bag separate to the luggage. Take whatever food and drink you want into the waterpark - you will need lots of drinks. They watrpark is hot and humid and the kids kept getting sore throats so lots of fluids is good. Snakcs are also fine - they say no on the website but I have always taken a bag full of fruit, crackers, chips and noone has ever stopped me.

The towels they give you are SMALL so if you are like me and like to be covered up walking around - take a larger towel or coverup!

Either take a pair of scissors or put your wristbands on at the front desk so you can cut off the excess right away. They need to be on tight enough to not fall off but loose enough to tolerate for the duration of your stay as they act as your room key and money! You pay for extras if you lose one.

That's all I can think of rght now. Have fun - we've been 4 times and really enjoy it there!

Thank you all for your advice and tips. We just came back today and we had a wonderful time! I did get the 2nd night deal when I asked for it; they didn't offer it. I am so thankful that I was able to read such great things on the DISboards about Great Wolf Lodge that I was able to prepare myself in advance!

The Lodge is decorated for Christmas and looks beautiful! The waterpark was pretty much empty while we were there. The kids walked up to each and every water slide and didn't have any line ups.

We went to see the Winter Festival of Lights and as usual, the Disney display was great! They have a new light for the Disney Fairies.

Glad you had a great time. It is a pretty cool place. We did new years there last year!!

If you are ever there on a weekend, they do family dances in the lobby on Saturday nights sometimes - so fun!

Now you've made me want to go!! Where can I get a good deal? There are 6 in my family if that make a difference.

I just booked directly through their website. Sorry, I don't have any info on deals; wish I did! The best "deal" I could find was going mid-week rather than on the weekend. I saved over $100.00 per night by going during the week.

We went the end of June and booked through hotelclub.com and paid $210/night taxes in. On their website the same room was $349/night +taxes!! We also got the stay another night promo for $129. Loved it and will definitely be returning this summer!
