Internet in Deluxe hotel rooms?

There is a wire provided, as it is not wireless.

We bring a small hub to plug in to the wall so we can have wireless and share it between two computers. We also, incidentally, keep the connection open, so people can piggyback for free. We have found open wireless connections while at WDW ourselves, so we return the favor. $10 a night for internet is a downright insult in this day and age.

So is $300+ for a room, but guess what? People pay it. And has been pointed out before, free internet is available at some hotels and motels, but it's more of a gimmick to get you to stay as opposed to anything else. And usually the 'free wireless' = a linksys router, hooked up around the check in desk, and if you can happen to get it in your room, good for you. I've had a few where you couldnt even connect if you were very far away from the check in area. And it costs money to have a 'real' internet setup where you actually get charged, so that's also why some cheaper hotels have 'free' internet.

And of course just to point it out, it's $10 for 24 hours, which if you do it right almost equals 2 'nights'

For those that just want to check email and do a little Dis Board cruising, dial up isn't that bad. I made sure I had Juno Free loaded before I left home, and with local calls free at POFQ, I stayed in touch our whole trip. I was even able to save $80 on our SWA tickets for my February Birthday trip. Oh, did I mention it was free. This after all is the Budget Board.:thumbsup2

PS...even if the deluxes charge $.75 a phone call, it's still a good deal.

I agree that free wireless in a hotel can be spotty. I have had my share of "ARGH! NO SIGNAL IN THIS ROOM! MOVE ME!"
But their internet is wired. It's right there begging to be used. LOL We're paying a fortune to be here. There is no additional outlay to make it happen. C'mon!

I was surprised that at least at the Deluxe's it wasn't free. And making sure it's wired means someone outside the hotel can't piggyback on the free connection (so people from other hotels don't flock to the Deluxe lobbies to hook up, if you will)

And yes, I know it is a "perk" at many hotels to try and entice you to stay there. But Disney is a magical place, where your dreams come true. So I want cable and free internet. :) It's my "dream"!

I don't know if this is still the case any longer, but the last two times I stayed at the Contemporary, they had computers in our room (garden wing) with free internet access.

The Contemporary is the only Resort on property which has built in computers in every room with their online concierge program, that also includes free high speed internet access.

How do we do dial up?

How do we do dial up?

Well it's somewhat of an ancient skill, what with using the phone line and all that. Most laptops have modems...my EEE PC doesn't, but found a USB modem for it recently....you just hook your laptop to the modem port on the telephone and let the software, in my case Juno Free, find the access numbers for you. Then you connect via one of the local numbers and you're connected. I installed the Juno Free before I left home, and made sure I could access the internet here, so I knew it would work when I got to WDW. You do have to let it look for local numbers once you get there, but it only took a minute or so. The local number I used from POFQ didn't generate any $$$ on my bill, so free access. A little slower than a wired connection, but I didn't need too much.
