Dorine -
Thanks so much for all of the info. I had been on the fence regarding staying at SOG or keeping our BWI reservations. I've cancelled the Boardwalk after reading your review! My husband loves that we'll be saving a ton of money :thumbsup2

I do have a few questions for you.

1. How was the return trip with Tiffany? Any problems with them picking you up at the designated time? How do you know they are there to pick you up? (sorry if these are dumb questions :))
2. Did you ever walk back from the Poly at night? If so, was it bad crossing the street?

Thanks!!

1. The return trip with Tiffany was fine, they were about 5 minutes late (which was OK with us), I didn't get our return driver's name, but it was a female. The one thing I did notice, although I've only used Tiffany twice (the first time was 5 year ago and I don't remember the specifics), but Tiffany picked us up in a very, very nice (I think, new) town car, because you pay when they drop you at the hotel... the car they picked us up in wasn't quite as nice inside (outside was fine), but you could tell it was very used. I don't know if this is standard, or it just happened to us that way. Both times, the drivers were very courteous and helpful.

2. yes, we did walk back from the poly quite often... at least 5 times. Most of the time, crossing the street wasn't a problem - most cars will stop for pedestrians in the cross walk. However, there were 2 times that cars just sped right by us, obviously not doing the speed limit - the others behind them did stop to let us cross. Most of the time, the traffic wasn't bad at all, and there were no cars coming, so it was easy to cross.

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions, just let me know... I am just dying to plan another trip - this one was so awesome, all of us just want to go back to badly.

Is there anything special that the new section offers? Is it more desirable than the old section? If so, what makes it so? We won't be swimming and are driving our car.

Also, has anyone noticed much hallway noise?

Just got back yesterday from out second stay at the SOG. Both times we've been in the new building, so I can't compare it to the old section.

If you have a car, pick the new section. The parking garage is right off the new building. It's a long, long walk to the old section. If you're young and have unlimited energy, it might not bother you. But it's the main reason we request the new building.

Both stays, our room has been low numbers in the new building. So we were right near the parking garage and elevators, and basically everyone on our floor had to walk past our room. We didn't have any problem with hallway noise.

Thanks for that updated info. I swear I have the page and post number of your first scans burned into my memory.

I should give you a heads up on the internet at SOG. Here's the info from the SOG Newsletter:

Last time we visited (Jan 2008), they had a wired connection in each room. You'd get a ethernet wire from the front desk. So you could only use the internet in your room, and due to the short wires, you basically had to use it at the small round table.

Now they have wireless internet throughout the entire hotel. They sell little business cards like this with a 24-hour access code:

We bought 5 cards at check-in ($6.95 each) for the length of our stay. For some reason, I only used one of them. My access was never shut off.

So you might want to buy each card as you need them, instead of buying a bunch at one time.

The wifi sucks. Very slow, almost dial-up speed. Some times it would burst, and pages would come up instantly. Other times it would time-out. And I had a great connection (always 4-5 bars). So that was a bit frustrating. Don't bother trying to download or upload any large files.

We have an 8am ADR at AK on one of our days at WDW. Will we be able to use a bus or should be get a taxi? Will SOG help us secure a taxi?
Thanks.

:thumbsup2 You have definitely answered a lot of questions with your last few posts. Good to see internet is wireless in the rooms now.

Do the Starbucks coffee stand and the Express Cafe (the place to grab quick breakfast items, etc.) take Visa?

I believe they do accept CC's. I just rather charge to my room.

Yes, both take Visa and Matercard... DH has Visa I have MC and both were used at both places during our stay.

Ok, thanks!
Other than SOG purchases WDW purchases cannot be charged to our room keys, correct? This is where I get confused. I know purchases can be delivered to SOG since my neighbor did this earlier this year. But, I am thinking you can't actually charge those purchases to the room.:upsidedow

I asked a couple days ago, but I thought I'd ask again. I'm not sure where else to ask this, but does anyone know where the ADA (accessible) rooms are located at SOG?

I'm hoping they are close to the parking garage and/or the shuttle pick up. My mom is very nervous as it is the first time we have been back to WDW since she began using a wheelchair, and I just want her to be comfortable.

Thaks for your help.

The site map does not indicate which rooms are ADA. The website says only that they are found throughout the resort. You could call them.

I would call or e-mail them about it. They answer e-mail very quickly, but if you call and speak with a reservation agent, they should be able to tell you exactly. And they can specify ADA rooms on the reservation. I know everything is a "request" but that certainly does not fall into that category. Matter of fact, once I requested not to be put past a certain room number and was told "I'll just put you down for a handicap accessible room." I said no thank you, I just didn't like the back of the building.

Those halls get very long at the end of the day.:rotfl:
