mmm....thats a bit odd.
Even if the dollar was at its recent worse (say 25 cents on the dollar),it would still only be CAN$431.
How did it end up $518 ?

I think you should check to see exactly what was charged (in US dollars) and what the exchange rate was on the date that your transaction went through. If my math is correct, you paid over 1.50 US for every Canadian dollar. The worst exchange I have paid since the dollar begain its decline is 1.2918 .... so 1.50 isn't anywhere near reasonable.

Check it out, and maybe you'll find there was an error somewhere and you'll get some of your $$'s refunded.

I did a USD transaction this past Thurs w/Jetblue and mine exchanged at $1.25..yours does seem high?

I hear you. Just paid the Visa bill today ( arrived home yesterday), the exchange rate sucks. Everything we had put on there we were charges $1.25 approx as the exchange rate!!

I believe that the room tax rate at AKL is 11.5%, even adding that to your room rate of 345, you should have only been charged somewhere around $480 per night. I would double check that bill it seems excessive.

You also have to add in teh rate the bank then tacks on to your bill which can be anyplace from 2-5% increase in the exchange rate.

I just re-checked the amount I was charged on my online statement and it was 514.12. I do not know what the exchange rate was on Oct. 29 when it rang through, but I think some of that charge must be the credit card company charging the user fee that they tack on for foreign purchases... I will have to call PC financial master card tomorrow and look into it. I wish I had waited a day or two later, as the dollar jumped 10 cents since I made that room change! :confused3
