<checks notes>
Day 01 FRI- up for flight, back is sore, twist knee, nice flight, Hello Orlando.

All right, my report for Day 01 is done, hon.

Oh, no, Tracy - you're writing a report with MEGGIE!!!!!

"Here's my one sentence, Mom, now you write the next 3 days!"

:sad2:

This is such a great thread!! Come on...where is the rest of the report? What happened after the outlets? Which by the way, we drove around looking for in August and didn't realize they were right there, either!! I still have yet to see any of the discount stores!! :-)

<sigh...>
Well it was 24 hours before we left…which meant I was at my computer at 5:45am to get my SWA boarding passes at exactly 6:05.

^ Funny, she's off, I had to work that day, Thursday,
and I'm like "this chick is nuts..." as I'm stepping into the shower...

IMG_2034.jpg
<..."No, not that shower (yet)!"

>> Note that TyRy takes a week off before a Disney vacation (to right her "Qi")...
...and a week after ... (to reflect and mourn (her leaving :sad2: )). <<

Well, her obsessive proactive measures paid off, again.
I was quite happy to board early and get situated...not having to dork around with the overhead storage with the aisles full of travelers
.

DH ends up taking a half day (thankfully) so we can get a few last minute things done.....
Of course in my head this means we could have left TODAY and had even more time.

This underscores another point I always make - fly later.
SHE contends flying early is better so she doesn't fret about it - just wake up and go.
Problem is, she freaks out the whole night, unable to sleep. Might as well leave later, so you can wake up fresh in FLA :goodvibes , (not at 3AM in Illinois! ).

3am rolled around pretty quick, but hey, I’m now on Disney time – who needs sleep.
Ahhh, yes. Disney Time.
What is Disney Time?
· A timer of sorts, tracking time spent in say, the Magic Kingdom, Disney property, or the number of hours/days spent on a trip?
· Or is it an abstract concept: a non-linear continuum of events and pacing which seem to defy all structure & scheduling?
· Or is it yet another dimension, that which can only be experienced while letting your adult mindset go while experiencing an attraction in the MK,
characterized by slowish motion, blissful fantasy, and heavenly euphoria cognized as an out-of-body experience upon recollection . . . :hippie:
:cloud9:
:cloud9:
:cloud9:
It's up to you...

Many have countdown timers, trip talleys, and such; but everyone knows it's DISNEY TIME that counts
.
:)

We finally get the call to board...Someone with...a number higher than us looked like she was not going to move... Sorry, not happening. I...promptly insert us in front of her...I’m sure I got a dirty look.
Read: Tracy gave her the ol' College Hockey hip-check. :cool1:

Sidebar: I would like to point out in the picture above that small little binder under my arm is the 2008 binder!
IMG_0921.jpg
xtra thin paper. cain't fool me!

DH takes the seat next to the window (so he can be sucked out first – told ya I was crazy when it comes to flying )
That's right...planning my Escape From TyRy route...

Click to Play (warning: boring)

So we take off and I do not have my usual silent meltdown…yay !!! Plane pills worked! Flight is uneventful, and we do not have any fun flight attendants, as I’ve heard about when people fly SWA.

LOL! Like SHE needs fun flight attendanats...all she wants is to get there - alive.
If they're having fun, TyRy's still going to be white-knuckled, gripping the seats for dear life!
Now I, on the other hand, LOVE flying. I get all into it, and amuse myself like a child, as follows:

We land and start heading towards the luggage…
IMG_0951.jpg

you can tell I’m much happier now

...and I'm just..........wanting to get the luggage and find a car...

Our luggage was already...So we grab it...grab a car and we are finally on our way to Boardwalk.

Not so fast... I was ROASTING, and couldn't wait to check in.
I had to change into my shorts, stat!

This is such a great thread!! Come on...where is the rest of the report? What happened after the outlets? Which by the way, we drove around looking for in August and didn't realize they were right there, either!! I still have yet to see any of the discount stores!! :-)

Ok ok - DH is almost caught up, as soon as he is we'll post the rest of the day ;) (it's already written and everything!)

Oh wow what a start :faint: So did you buy anything???

Nope - not a thing...said we said we would come back later in the week and when we walked out we were still hoping we were wrong. They had a lot of stuff from 2006 (not 2007 thought?! :confused3 ) The one thing I did notice I wanted was an Epcot Center shirt. It was six bucks in the outlet store and I actually saw it later for 25  at Epcot...needless to say I wasn't about to buy it at Epcot.

LOL...didn't realize you continued on thru that day...more I have to defend myself about!?!

Ok ok - DH is almost caught up, as soon as he is we'll post the rest of the day ;) (it's already written and everything!)

So we head over to BWV to check –in. Being that it is only around 10am I did not expect the room to be ready, and it wasn’t.

After a fairly quick check-in, we have a little look around.

All our check-ins are relatively painless - She stands at the counter for 45 minutes while I stroll around, soaking it all in. :rolleyes1
I honestly don't know what all she's doing - I'd fail HUGE as a Disney planner,
no doubt. I think she's probably shootin' the breeze with a castmember,
then comes back and tells me she negotiated some room deal for us
.

It was then we decided to hit the outlet malls.
...We’d always had excellent luck at the Belz Outlet in the past.

Ya know, I always liked that old outlet in the dingy Belz indoor mall.
toc_cvr0200.gif

The mall itself was kinda grayish, greasy...had the usual crappy pretzel, slushie, and other foodstuff vendors in the aisles...
...but it had the essentials...cheap shoe joint for flip flops on the go,
camera/tech joint for memory cards, and the best outlet store.

CharPremiere01-holland.jpg

That store was always stocked to the hilt with varied clothing items/accessories at great prices.
Short of paying big $$ at a "nicer" or actual Dis store I thought it was the most bountiful, hands down.
For shirts, specifically, I thought it was as good or better than Downtown Disney
.

It was obviously going downhill on the last couple trips...lots of store closings, sparsely visited...but our store was still going strong.

ANYWAY...
...as she detailed, we took our "known routes" there, and the mall didn't "appear."
Those round signs with simple lettering denoting certain store entrances/parking B .... D .... C .... gone.
We drove around what looked to be the familiar lot, but couldn't find that damn gray mall!!!
We even found our EXACT parking spot from the last few trips, but no ... "entrance."

It gets better...we left and re-entered the area at least twice just to be sure...nuts!
Still better....<OK, we are NUTS> after walking around the joint, we STILL left, then returned to double check.
It wasn't till I asked some dude in a store that we knew for sure we were in the right location & the old mall was demolished.

I will say the entire new mall really looks fabulous, but...the outlet store looks more like a Disney resort store...less clothing stock, about ¼ of the deals from the old store :( . The other character joints we checked out "off campus" paled in comparison to the old joint as well.

Oh, and someone needs to take a firehose to that entire men's room, including that long open-air hallway to the outdoors. <bleaachhh!!>
:faint:

We took no pics since we were so despondent over the loss of our grimy old mall.
:sad1: :lmao:

¶¶¶¶¶

On our way out DH stops and asks an employee what happened to the Belz outlet…something you think one of us would have done before we started on this little three hour tour (and it was literally three hours!) He confirms our worst fears at this point (being that we wasted half the day!)

LOL...the things we "fear" in life...flying, and mall makeovers!

________
popcorn:: ...More to come.

I make the phone call and am told we are in room 1123? Ummmmm – starts with a 1, somehow I don’t think that matched my request of upper floor. Well let’s see if the other request (overlooking bus stop) was ignored as well. And yes, I know they are just requests, but maybe I’ve been lucky in the past and have pretty much always gotten what was asked for. I figured with all I’d read about people complaining and hating to do the stairs at BWV I was safe in asking for an upper floor room – guess not :confused3

So we valet the car – which is my new favorite perk of being a DVC member…the free valet parking at DVC resorts when staying on points – and hit the elevators. Well, we try to grab the elevators. Evidently the whole two that we found were not working exactly great…as a CM told us they were going crazy. Hmmmm – maybe we should take the stairs…nahhh let’s wait. So we do and finally get an elevator going down one whole floor  We then start the trek to our room. And I do mean TREK! I think walking to Canada might have been closer than walking to this room. I’d heard about the long hallways at BWV and thought how bad could they be….now I know. They are bad. It’s like if you have the very last room at the AKL waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy out facing one of the savannahs. Hence why we always stay pool view there ;) But I think this might have been even longer. I could not believe how far we walked to get to the room.
IMG_1047.jpg

We open the door and our studio looks decent enough
IMG_0982.jpg

IMG_0983.jpg

IMG_0984.jpg

IMG_0985.jpg

Look out the back and we have a shared patio with the room next door.
IMG_0988.jpg

Also a lovely view of the bushes.
IMG_0987.jpg

IMG_0986.jpg

Ok I’m going to sit and pout now. No upper floor, have to share the patio…which is tiny so if the neighbors are out it might get uncomfortable AND we have to walk a million miles to get anywhere.

DH seems fine with it, I’m the one who is pouting :sad2:! I think DH got out the computer to get online and I just sat and pouted for a while LOL. Our luggage then arrived along with an angel named Al. Al saved me (and DH too) from a weekend of pouting and walking back and forth between our room and the Canadian border. I was too busy pouting so DH is going to have to fill this part in, but Al basically gave us the secret to get to the pool, bus stop, DHS, and our car quickly and without having to go back through customs each time we wanted to get anywhere :rotfl:

Now that my pouting session is over and we have seen the light thanks to Al, it’s time to head over to DHS for dinner at 50’s PTC…our first time there.
IMG_0992.jpg

But first we need to exchange our AP certificates for the real thing…YAY!!! We have AP’s…now this means we have to go back within a year! We also get the Tables in Wonderland (TIW) – formerly DDE – card. But for some reason the cast member either kept spelling my last name wrong or my first name and he had to reissue each card a couple of times. He felt really bad, but we were just laughing about it…nothing to be upset about. However, he gave us a bit of magic for our trouble, FREE (yes FREE) ice cream in the park. WOW – Disney just gave us something for free – I may have fainted :faint:. Here’s what it looked like:
IMG_1025.jpg

So into the park we head official AP and TIW card holders for the first time (and it better not be the last!) I can’t remember if we did anything before checking in, maybe DH will be able to chime in. I do know we did the first Photopass photo of the trip and got the card.
image018.jpg

I kept telling DH and DIL’s to grab any photographer they saw as I had pre-purchased the CD.

Continued from above...too many images

Anyway, I do remember that since it was pretty close to our ADR time we head right for 50’s PTC for our 5:45 ADR. There are a ton of people checking in, so I think we are going to be in for a wait. We are handed our pager and go sit in the bar area. It really is a fun looking place. DH and I were just deciding what we wanted to drink (I knew something with a glow cube…gotta start my collection for this trip!) when the pager went off. So we probably waited all of 5 minutes or so.

We are shown to our table and Aunt Cindy is our server. This place is actually pretty cool and we get a good table with a TV.
IMG_1004.jpg

I’m thinking DH must really like it cause he loves things from the 50’s and 60’s…he’d probably furnish our house with half the stuff in this restaurant.
IMG_1005.jpg

IMG_1006.jpg

I’m also trying to be very careful and not get caught with elbows on the table or anything. I must admit to being a little worried about some of the antics that I know could possibly go on here…normally I’d be all for it, but I am a wee bit tired after being up since 3am and wasting all that energy pouting earlier  Thankfully, it was just the right amount. Aunt Cindy kept calling DH skippy and made him set the table. I was almost hoping he would do something wrong to get one of the more torturous tasks, like standing and singing I’m a little teapot, but alas, nothing like that happened :rotfl2:. Our drinks come and I actually get a star glow cube…had no idea they came in stars. And my Dad’s Electric Lemonade was outstanding on top of it.
IMG_1016.jpg

I probably could have had a couple had I not been so wiped out, and I knew I wanted to try and stay to see Fantasmic. She comes to take our orders next…I had known for months what I was getting – the fried chicken. Growing up this was my absolute favorite food and it’s probably still in my top three. And the pictures I had seen just made it look so yummy! So I order it and DH gets the pot roast.
IMG_1017.jpg

IMG_1022.jpg

My chicken did not disappoint…I thought it was fantastic. DH liked his pot roast (which I tried and was really yummy) but thought it was on the smallish side. I thought it was a normal portion. I also got DH to eat my “greens” as I told him we might not get dessert otherwise. We did order dessert – the Smores:
IMG_1024.jpg

I tried a little bit and it wasn’t bad, but DH really enjoyed it. We get our check, hand back the TIW card and wait for our new receipt. I have to tell you guys I went back and forth about whether to get the Dining Plan or not, but all my numbers told me we would be better off without it and just using the TIW card. People say that you don’t save anything with it, but I disagree. We tend to tip 20%, so we looked at it like we got all the tips for free. When I did the analysis when I got home, we ended up saving about three hundred dollars :thumbsup2 over using the Dining Plan and this for other things. Our savings for this meal was $10.30 and the automatic tip that they add was $9.27. So the only way the TIW card really doesn’t save you anything is if you were planning to NOT tip everywhere you went. Ok – off the TIW soapbox. :)

So we go outside, but I decide I need a pit stop – when I come back out DH is nowhere to be found. So I wait, and wait, and wait and start to get really annoyed
IMG_1032.jpg

I finally call him and he’s standing across the path just watching me get annoyed! :headache:

We then had some time to kill before Fantasmic…we are never ones to get there early and wait and have never had a problem. I really wanted to see the updated Journey into Narnia, so we hit that first. I was really glad we did as now they have the broken Stone Table (or Aslan’s How in Prince Caspian) and we could take pictures by it…cue me jumping up and down and DH looking lost as he had no idea why I was so excited…he hasn’t read the books.
IMG_1039.jpg

So I get my picture and we head over to see, just for the heck of it, how long a wait Toy Story Mania is…I think it was about 50 minutes and this is at 7:15 at night. We decide we would come back to it later in the week (famous last words!) and go see Voyage of the Little Mermaid. I think I saw this about eight years ago and DH had never seen it, and since a show was just about to start, in we went. It really is a good show and I think DH even liked it.

It’s now about 7:45 and Fantasmic is in 15 minutes…let’s go see if we can get in. But first, even though it’ll start any minute I find a Photopass Photographer and we have to do pictures…hey – the CD is paid for! ::yes::
image025.jpg

We finally get into the theater and all that’s left is the far left side…fine with us, we’ve never been over there. But as we are walking I suddenly hear a CM yell I have room for two just to the left of center. I throw my hand up, grab DH and promptly go right to her. She seats us and then a minute later a lady comes back and starts asking her DH why he let the CM give up seats..at least that’s what my DH said…I couldn’t hear the conversation. We all fit anyway, but we were willing to move, but I guess it didn’t come to that. They must have just wanted more room than what they had, as I said, we all fit anyway. I hate to see what is going to happen when they cut this down to just two days a week…I’m glad I’ve seen it every trip in case I have to skip it next year.

So after Fantasmic, we were going to take the boat back to BW, but just missed it. We thought about waiting for the next one, but decided to walk…and boy and I glad we did. Just as we got back to BW, a boat passed us to pick people up…we would have been waiting a loooooooooooong time. The plan was to just stop in the room and then head to Epcot for Extra Magic Hours. The stopping back in the room became the fatal flaw. As soon as we both sat down, the 3am wake-up call caught up with us. No way were we going anywhere. I did manage to step outside onto the patio and get a couple shots of the higher fireworks at least.
IMG_1045.jpg

IMG_1043.jpg

It didn’t dawn on me till the next day (after I’d had some sleep and my brain was functioning again) that had I simply left the room and gone out the exit right next to our room I wouldn’t have had the trees blocking my view!

Tomorrow the plan is Downtown Disney and Cap’t Jacks for lunch, then O’Hana for dinner and finally the Magic Kingdom for Spectro and Wishes. That’s the plan at least……

I can not believe you stayed awake that long :faint: I'd have been in bed by about 6pm :rotfl:

Sounds like a lovely day, so what was the BWV secret for not walking all the corridors?

I can not believe you stayed awake that long :faint: I'd have been in bed by about 6pm :rotfl:

You know how DH talked about Disney time a couple of posts ago...I swear there is something about Disney air. At home I'm in bed pretty early - 10ish probably and if I have to be up extra early for something, I'm out much earlier. However, as soon as I get to WDW, I don't need as much sleep. Who knows what it is, but I honestly thought we would keep going, even that night....which I was wrong about

Sounds like a lovely day, so what was the BWV secret for not walking all the corridors?

DH is going to have to chime in with that since he remembers and knows the ways much better...probably since he paid attentioned while I pouted :lmao: And I just tended to follow him - all I knew was go out this door or that one :rotfl:

Just joining in! Love the stone table shot!

:welcome: nts4wdw - glad to have you aboard. I made DH take a bunch of shots but that is the only one that really came out. I need to make him watch the movies so he gets why I was so excited. :happytv:

Yay, more pictures!! I understand that whole Disney time thing but somewhere mid trip, my lack of sleep catches up and I have to sleep in!! BWV hallways ARE LONG!! They go on and on and on and on.....:-) Well, you know that song that never ends? :rotfl2:

Ok, waiting for more days.....:rolleyes1 :surfweb:

Gotta back up for a vid...
After checking in, before heading to what we thought was Belz, we walked the BWVilla grounds to soak it in...we had never checked out much more than the Boardwalk & lobby areas...

We took a quick seat near the main pool, and Tracy was at a loss fer words...
...almost in disbelief she was back home.

Me, I'm not that picky about the room.
I pretty much assume we're not getting a "primo" room on the Boardwalk proper,
and just sorta hope we don't get shafted into one of those reaaaally bad rooms folks talk about.
From her reaction, that's what I thought we were getting into! :confused3

From my single experience, this is unquestionably the best perk! I could be happy just hanging in a studio everyday as long as I can pull my car up and leave it!
(and always tip your valet guy!)

LOL...I'd imagine the Animal Kingdom hallways extend farther out, but they're wider, brighter, and more decorated there.
Couple that with my belief that nothing could be as long as some AKL treks and this turned out to be deceptively long.
Triple that with the fact I was carrying someting over my shoulder, dragging my suitcase, and keeping grasp on a plastic bag full of beer and soda which had an escalating tear along the seam!

awkward. I had to put pants on to go out. What is up with that? :rotfl2:

Yeah...and we did not pictorially document this properly...shame, shame, shame. It's going to be quite a while before we can achieve tiggerbell-level detail (if ever).

Basically the guy gave me some quick pointers as to the shortcuts from our room to places,
after which, we did not traverse that hallway again during our (admittedly short) stay.
It's not that the hallway is so much longer than our other routes, but the other routes were just plain better.
Something about the halls there seems a li'l smaller, darker, colder (is is possible to look dank?) than those of say, the AK Lodge. No windows either.

Though our room was in one of those "bad locations" TyRy previously showed me,
it turned out to be quite the advantageous location for our stay.
If you're stuck that far out in the BWV's, you might as well be on the first floor for the exit options.

Click on the map (it should open in separate window [maximize it]),
and follow the text below-

There were three different exits we could use to avoid trudging down the halls:
[map: Green path] One leading to the front was right next to our room. It led to the front driveway, on the hotel side of the bridge which separates the parking lot from the grounds.
If not using valet, we turned <right> there, and were a hop, skip, & a jump from the lot. When using valet, we simply turned <left> and walked up to the entrance...and I adore this walk. BTW, The Boardwalk entrance is my favorite of all Disney Resorts...

...yes, cooler than the Wilderness Lodge and AKL's thatch roof entrance. Just my opinion, as I have a thing for that throwback old east coast style with the clear incandescent bulbs outlining it...

[map: Yellow path] The next exit was opposite our front one...it technically went to a smoking area (didn't encounter any there) which was conveniently located by the QUIET POOL (<- that which EVERY resort should have!!!). We could be at the pool or hot tub in about 30 seconds...or continue around, and hit the main pool.

[map: Blue path] The third escape (blue & red paths) was at the end of the building; just a short hike to the end of the hallway. That deposits you by the Riverwalk, at which point if you turn right you can go to either pool, continue on to the Boardwalk (Dance Hall entrance area), head over to the Swan/Dolphin bridge, or ramble on over to the Yacht/Beach club. Neato!

[map: Red path] Turning left out of the hotel sets you on your way down that gorgeous riverwalk toward Hollywood Studios.

-----

These (Red and Blue paths) are what gives BWV a tactical advantage over BLT, AKL, and WLV...the other DVC resorts put you close to only one park. BWV gets you to Hollywood Studios and Eppy Cot, naturally.
