Sunday 17 August

We were on the road by 4.30, as we planned and just about 3 hours later we were pulling in at DCR. We knew our cabin wouldn’t be ready but we wanted to check in and get our Hotel Easy Pass so that we could go in for EMH. (Dtr and I have Dream passes but the boys don’t). Following advice given on here, we had decided to park at the Hotel New York. I was a bit apprehensive, sure that they would say we couldn’t park there, but one flash of my AP and we were in. Security seems quite high there - every time we parked they checked our pass, on several occasions they wrote down our number plate and one night as we left about 11.30pm the chap not only checked my AP on the way out, but came and peered into the car to check on the number of occupants.

We walked through the Village and mere minutes later we were walking down Main Street for the first time. Hardly anyone around - the wonderful advantages of EMH.

We hoped to start off with a ride on Buzz, but it was not in operation so we went instead to Space Mountain for the adventurous 3 in our party to ride. After riding Peter Pan, Pinocchio and (3 times ) Space Mountain we decided we had benefited nicely from EMH and that we were feeling a bit peckish. It was time for Salon Mickey. Son had never been in here, so dtr loved to show him how we walked round loads of people queuing to get in the Park (it was about 9.30) and did the ‘secret knock on the secret door’. Okay - to be honest I love that bit as well!
We relaxed with a drink and pastry each before going back in to the Park, where a band was playing just inside the gates to welcome the visitors. We were just in time for rope-drop and POTC. This is still my all-time favourite. In the same way that the first glance at the Castle makes me goose-pimply, so my first ride on POTC makes me grin in a soppy way.

After riding Indiana Jones we headed into Fantasyland for Son to have his first go on Le Pays des Contes De Fees and Casey Jr - all of his previous visits have been in February so he has never seen these rides open.

Dtr was able to get a cuddle from the Sherriff of Nottingham when the Character Express rolled along.

Then it was time to wander back out to the Village as we had midday booking for Sunday Brunch at the Steakhouse. We had expected the Sunday to be our busiest day so we had been pleasantly surprised at how much we had managed to do.

The food and atmosphere at the Steakhouse was once again superb. I have put a review on the Steakhouse thread. We had lots of character intervention……

And just before we left we saw the Ware Bears family so we went to say hi.

We were all very full up so we made our way back to the car and drove to the Davy Crockett Ranch and got the keys to our cabin - we were on Moccasin Trail in a 2 berth cabin. We were quickly unpacked and then we relaxed, explored our surroundings and drank lots of tea for a couple of hours before heading back to the Parks for about 7 o’clock.

We went to the AP office first as we wanted to get son’s AP sorted out. This turned out to be quite a bargain as Husband bought a 1-day ticket back in the UK for £35. Once they deducted the cost of this from the Fantasy AP and also my shareholder’s discount we had only another €58.85 to pay, so in total my sons’ AP cost about £83.

The parade was going passed as we exited the AP office, but we didn’t stop to watch, going instead to Buzz which was now working. The queues were not too long so we went on then continued round to IASW, then POTC, Indiana Jones and Phantom Manor. Son then suggested Star Tours, which none of us have been on for a while. I decided to chicken exit this one. I have been on it a few times but it makes me feel headachy and sick, so I won’t do it. Unfortunately, for the first time ever it had this effect on Dtr and she looked quite pale when she exited. What better way to get rid of a headache than to fight Zurg and his battery-stealing robots? Dtr felt well enough to ride on BTM with Husband and Son by this time we got off Buzz, so we tramped back across the Park to Frontierland. It was lovely walking through the Park as darkness fell, without huddling deep into winter coats and scarves, as we are used to on our other trips.

After BTM we decided to watch Fantillusion from near Fort Comstock, while Son decided he just HAD to have another go on BTM in the dark. In fact, while we watched he managed another 3 rides round. My family are like lots of you on this forum - convinced that BTM is extra special after dark. While I, weedy-jelly-kneed-person, won’t even go on it at all. :scared1:

Fantillusion was as lovely to watch as ever and Candleabration looks so much better in the dark. Then came the fireworks - I had avoided watching videos as I wanted to get the real effect while there and I was not disappointed - thought there were lovely. Somehow we managed to find Son in the crowds of people all turning to leave at the same time. We walked back through the Village to Hotel New York and it seemed no time at all before we were back at our cabin, definitely ready for bed after our first full day in the Park.

Fantastic- you got loads done. You need to try BTM Im sure you'll love it.

You fairly packed a lot in today :)
It is a starnge feeling getting into a hotel for parking with your AP.. but soon becomes natural :goodvibes

Fabulous and I'm so envious of your son managing to do BTM three times in the dark!

A fab day. You managed to fit loads in. I love BTM in the dark:thumbsup2

Light, dark, summer, winter - there's no way I'm going on it!:rotfl:
