Pop Warner Week

From a coach who is in the middle of competing to go to Disney this year, it runs from 12/7 -12/13.

Good luck to your team. I was wondering if you've gone before and could tell us a little about the schedule for the Pop Warner kids. There has been a lot of threads about how the kids wouldn't impact the crowds in the parks during the days, but some posts suggested by evening they would be out in force. How many kids/chaperones are we talking about...hundreds, thousands?

Also read that there is one night that Hollywood Studios is closed to guests for a Pop Warner event. Do you know what date yet...and hours it's closed to us?

Do you know what the dates for 2009 are yet? I would be curious since we are planning a December 2009 trip.

Thanks!! If we win 2 more competitions, then it is on to Disney. This would be my first year going so I can't answer your questions specifically.

I do know that the competitions are held during the day, & each day there is a different divsion competing.

Monday is Jr. Pee Wee, Tuesday is Pee Wee, Wed. is Jr. Midget, THurs is all dance, Friday is Midgets.

On any given day there is about 65 teams competing & an average of 20 kids per team, which means that is an average of about 1300 kids per day competing, which means about 6500 kids in total for the week, not including their families that cheer them on.

As I said they are tied up during the day but at night I think it is fair to say that if they are not competing the following day, they will be in the parks.

I do know that I have had to tell my parents that (I am a Jr. Pee Wee coach--my kids are 8, 9, & 10) that if we go every child will need a parent, so there is adult supervision. To be honest, since a national title is at stake, I do not even want my kids going to the parks until after we compete, too much is at stake.

We are very disciplined & I would never let my kids run free as stated before, there is too much at stake. We have been practicing 3-4 days a week since Aug. 4th & then games on Sundays, too much to throw away just because we are at Disney!!!

Sorry I do not know the dates yet.

Their events are held at Wide World of Sports. I believe there are 64 football teams (various age groupings). Not sure how many cheerleader groups. I was there last year during PW week and didn't see alot in the parks. Most of the parks close early during the week this time of year, so there are not alot of evening hours.

The DHS party is most likely December 10. The park closes at 7:00 that night instead of 8:00 the rest of the week.

It's usually the first full week of December, so week of December 6.

The tournaments, to see if they get to go to Pop Warner, is always held the weekend of Thanksgiving. The weekend after that is when Pop Warner occurs. Since Thanksgiving was so late this year that is why Pop Warner is later than most of us anticipated. This should help all of us disneyphiles for future planning, right??? :thumbsup2

They are usually there first week of December which is why we always plan our trip second week of December. This year they snuck up on me and I was super P.O.'d when I found out. There are no discounts for this time period due to this event and the resorts are booked solid. If you book a week before or after this week you can still get rooms and with a discount to boot.

MVMCP was crowded last year for some reason and it looks like this year it's gonna be even worse with this event. While i'm glad they all made to this last competition, I hate that I've gotta be there when this event is taking place. All I can do is try to make the best of it and be prepared for the worst. I hope it's not as bad as i've read it to be according to the various posts I found scattered. Half the posts say it's bad and others say it's not that bad so it seems to be subjective. We shall see in 7 weeks.:scared:

From what I understand, Pop Warner is the second week after Thanksgiving because it is less expensive to travel that week (vs. the week after Thanksgiving and traveling the weekend after Thanksgiving). So, the week in December will vary as Thanksgiving does. If that makes sense.

To raven69david - they mostly stay at values, and it looks like you will be at AKL. I wouldn't think that you would have too much trouble - I hope that your trip goes well!

I'm looking at 2009 and staying at ASMusic, so I'd like to avoid that week, too!

Pop Warner week begins on the 1st Sunday of Dec. 12/7-12/13. The teams start arriving that weekend. I have been going the last few years and again this year. I am a league official. The parks are empty during the day due to competition and football games going on at WWoS. The resorts where they stay may more busy at times. Yes DHS is open to a certain time to the public then it is closed and re-opened like 1-2 hrs later for all of pop warner and a special ticket is needed to enter the park. Last year that was the coldest nite of the week.

We're also looking at December 2009...from 12/10/09 (Thursday) to 12/14/09 (Monday). Do many/most families head out after Pop Warner wraps up, or do they typically stick around?

Thanks for the kind words Elmo. I'm sure it will go well, after all, it's Disney World and I can't be anything less than happy to be there and celebrate another vacation with DD3 (who will be 4 in 13 days:banana: ). We'll be doing a split stay at CSR and then onto AKL; it's gonna be awesome going "home" to AKL.

Thanks for the info Goofy41. That at least gives me some hope that it won't be as bad as i'm thinking. Pop Warner is 2nd week after Thanksgiving; not 2nd week in December, I believe, as we've always gone 2nd week of December and we're arriving when they're leaving. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday being later than normal, they are there 2nd week of December which is out of the norm, but within the usual time-frame (2nd week after TG) for this event.

As I posted before. Pop Warner week usually begins on the 1st Sun. of the month. Dec. 1st is on Mon. This year the dates are 12/7 to 12/13, so it is a bit later then normal. Yes it's always the 2nd week after (TG), I was agreeing that the dates/times were a lil later then the usual time. GL to anyone competing or just going to enjoy the parks decorated being it is closer to Xmas.

Do most of Pop Warner people go to MVMCP? I was just reading this thread and it came to me that I am going to MVMCP on Dec. 9th the same week. Just curious....

Sorry I do not know. I know during the day most of the people involved will be at the WWoS competing and playing football. I would like to think that parks at nite may be more crowded.

Everything except the uber-expensive presidential suites at the Deluxe resorts seem to be sold out that week. Down there on business the 10th - 14th and the best I can find for my family of 4 to join me so far is Swan or Dolphin.

Has anyone else been able to make reservations recently for this week? At any resort?

Good luck finding a hotel. They are booked solid. If you want a hotel you really have to look and it's spotty at best. Right now there's basically nothing during your time period; i've been looking because i want to switch resorts. Values are out of the question, however at the 45 day mark (around October 22nd) you can start checking to see if anyone's canceled to avoid the penalty fee. Best of luck.

EDIT:

The only thing I found for your dates was CSR from the 10th through the 12th and to get that you need to do a search from 12/6/08 - 12/12/08.
