Just wondering if I need to book an on-site motel for our trip in November (13-15th) to get the EP or is it slow enough then to stay off-site and wait in line, maybe buy the passes. We are not rich by any means, have two kids- one who can not tolerate waiting in line and are already spending an arm and leg on airfare. Thanks for your help.

I think you'll be fine w/o staying onsite since early November is pretty slow. If you stick with weekdays and get there at opening, you should be able to do the bigger attractions with little or no wait.

Yes this a slow part of the year.So if you are staying on-site just for FOTL,its not needed.

But when we go,the resort is 1/2 the fun..They got good rates that time of year!!

I will be there for the 15th and 16th staying a RPR. I go that time of the year every year and is very slow. The hotel is cheaper than normal this time of year, but the hotel has more to offer besides just the EP passes.:thumbsup2

Rates are not cheap to me if the best I can do is $220 a night average for RPH. I will call and see if they will give me cheaper rates via the phone. Would like the hard rock for the pool. Money talks now.
Hyatt place sounds good enough for the money difference and free breakfast and not having to pay to park plus free shuttle.

There will be little to no lines at that time of the year.

Have you thought about buying One AP to get the AP discount on rooms? It might help, might not.

But if money is tight, I would do the Hyatt, arrive at park opening, and you will have no waits, just barely enough time to look at the queues.

With AP it will bring the cost down too $179 a night at HRH and$169for RPR!!

Too bad I did not know that before I bought our week long passes. Now it would cost more than the perk. Called about HRH and RP rates and they were higher than expedia. Are the pools warm enuf to swim in in November?

Most pools in the better hotels are heated so you can swim year round. I say most because I found out not all are heated the hard way when I jumped into the pool at the Doubletree Castle one cool February evening

If you are willing to take a chance with places like Priceline your savings can be substantial. We are paying anywhere from $31 to $45 per night for our visit Oct. 12-20, even the high end of that is at a hotel with a nice pool and is about $150/night less than staying onsite.

The hotels quoted me more on the phone than on-line (HR and RP). Still undecided. If I didn't have a kid that does not understand waiting in line- i would opt for the off site easily. But are the on-site motels that much better? Maybe my daughter would at least enjoy the HR pool more with the slide and and music. thanks for all your help.

My family always stayed at the cheap hotels offsite, Quality Inn ($39-$59 a night). Since we are there all the time at US and IOA we just needed a place to shower and sleep. We always said who needs to spend the extra $$$ for the onsite hotels.
This past summer we knew the crowds were going to be heavy for the week we were staying and thought of the FOTL passes. So we booked the week at RPH by reading the reviews here. I have not wanted to stay anywhere else since then and keep in mind we try to visit atleast once a month here. Its worth it just for the convienence, staff, rooms, beds, transportation, relaxing, etc. Yes it more money but we can justify it.:thumbsup2

BTW: My son is 6 and he has a hard time waiting in line also, gets antsy. Now thats not a problem with FOTL. But for November that time it will not be that crowded durring the weekdays and alittle busier on weekends.

Check into the APH rate anyway. If it is much cheaper, you can call and have one of your week-long passes upgraded to an AP.

:thumbsup2
