I have been looking at sippy cups- DD is going to be 1 in a couple of weeks- and there are so many I am amazed. She has a playtex one with the hard spout and wont drink out of it. I was trying to find one with a soft spout, thinking maybe she would take to it better like the bottle, and I bought a Nuby at Walmart today. It has the handles with the no slip grip. Well, she took it okay, but after she sucked on it for a bit the spout was collapsing. I would have to unscrew the cap to get it to pop back out. Needless to say I will be returning this cup, but does anyone have a sippy cup that they think is really good and no spill too? The soft spout is a must, I think at this point since she took that but wont take her hard one. Thanks

I had that problem with the Nuby one! My DS would push it in though! I threw them all out and went with the hard spout gerber ones. I liked the idea of the soft spout ones, and i found others but they say they are spill proof but they aren't!!! he has one with mickey and 2 that are elmo. I keep them cuz i don't want to throw them out(he LOVES the mickey one) so i only put water in them.
But like i said the gerber ones i have found to be the best. It takes a while for them to get used to the hard spout. What i don't like about the hard spout is that my DS chews on it and i am afraid it will hurt his teeth!

When my youngest was transitioning from bottle to cup, I bought some Avent cups. They have handles and a soft spout, and they really helped DS with the transition. The only thing I didn't like about them is that they sometimes leak. But we really only used them until he had the cup thing figured out. After that, I bought Playtex (I think it's called First Sipster). They have handles and a soft spout. However, DS is now chewing on the spout and has torn one, so we'll be switching to hard spouts now.

We used this Nuby transition system. We liked that we could change out the top to give him his night bottle, and use the other tops for juice/water during the day.

We didn't have any trouble with the spout collapsing that I remember though! I would be angry as these things aren't cheap!

Thanks for the replies. I have the Avent cups too, but the spout doesnt seem to be "soft" enough like the nuby one was. It is soft, but firm. I like the look of the Munchkin cup, but have never seen them in stores. Guess I will have to look for them. Do you remember where you got them, thegrimdwarf? Thanks again

The only place I've seen them is Target. Good luck!

We used the Gerber transition/training cup with removable handles and a soft spout. We got them at Wal-Mart. We transitioned DS off the bottle at nine months to this sippy cup and now we are on the Gerber Graduates hard spout and DS is 15 months old. They worked great and it was pretty easy to get him off the bottle.

We have used the plain old Take and Toss sippies, I think they are by The First Years. My LO has been using them since he was 8 months old and now that he is off the bottle they are the only ones I use anymore. They don't leak, they are cheap, and they work fine for us. I was also on the hunt for the perfect cup but had some of the same problems that the pps mentioned so we are sticking with these. Good luck!

gerber NUK learner cup and sip and smiles have soft spouts, dr. brown's training cup, born free trainer cup, these are all of the cups I know of that are soft spouts you can also check some of the avent cups the older ones have soft spouts but as for the new ones I know the green spouts are hard but I am not sure about the white spouts. these all available at walmart, toysrus or target.

We love the munchkin straw cups and the regular sippy cups. I have seen them at CVS, Meijer, Walmart, BabiesRUS, etc.
My daughter is 4 and still uses the straw ones so she doesn't have to worry about spilling.

This past WDW trip my husband searched high and low for water bottles for our family that were BPA free. He found all of us bottles inculding a sippy cup for our 3yr old DD from REI. He got this one for our Madi. http://www.rei.com/product/776172

We love it and it's much easier to clean since it doesn't have a straw.

HTH's.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the Nuk one in WalMart and almost got that one to try. I think I should have now. I may go back and get one of them. Anyone have experience with this Nuk? I also found a very cute purple Cinderella cup by The First Years with a soft spout, but havent seen them in stores. They also have it with Elmo, Cars, and Mickey. Does anyone have these?

We have the 7 oz Take and Toss sippies too and DD loves them! She's been using them for about a month now (she's 7.5 months old). Her daycare uses them for all of the kids. We bought the Avent sippies with the soft spout, but they are too big for her to hold right now and even though we removed the discs that make them leakproof, she still had a tough time drinking out of them, so we're sticking with theTake and Toss sippies.

Went to Target tonight and the only Munchkin cups they have here are the basic ones for 99cents with the hard spout. I bought a Nuk one to try. I also ordered a Cinderella First years cup that I found on the internet. We shall see. Thanks for all the suggestions.

My son just wouldn't/couldn't do a sippy cup, but he took to the spillproof straw type very well. Speech therapists tell me that the straw type are actually better for the child for speech development:confused3 so that was an unintentional bonus for me.

can you tell me where you found the cinderella cup

I third the recommendation for Take and Toss cups. Not only are they cheap and recycleable, but they last forever! The spouts are firm, but they're not really hard plastic like some more expensive cups.

Also, when you're just starting, you can buy a package of their snack containers to make things easier. They're small and well-shaped for gripping, and can take the sip tops from the cups. We found that DD had a much easier time learning to use a cup when we put the sippy top onto the smaller, grippable snack cup.
