We are leaving for Disney on Friday. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about educational activities that I can do with my DD8. Her teacher is just going to have her do a travel journal for the week we are gone. He doesn't want us to take textbooks/worksheets on vacation--he's awesome!!!:) :)

Epcot IS full of activities. Travel around the world and get a passport stamp. Get a passport from any country. They used to free. Or have them stamp in his school Journal. Each country also has a craft to do. Taste some food, experience part of there culture. Then of course there is also the land. If you are just going to The World then stop at guest services. For homeschoolers and teachers they use to have things they pass out. THere are actually TONS of educational things in EPCOT. Have Fun!!

I found AK very educational, for me. I asked a lot of questions and found out fascinating things on many animals, plus how to make my own backyard a "nature preserve" and got printed instructions on how to build a bat house.

Maybe a specific assignment like learning to say a simple phrase ("thank you" or "hello my name is" maybe) in multiple languages at Epcot to include in the journal.

Maybe she can find a chatty CM to explain how they estimate wait times? That seems like heavy math to me!

Off the top of my head.......
Epcot is wonderful with the different countries. Perhaps your DD could visit each country and have the CM write in their language how to say Hello. We have also found candies from different countries to take back to the class to share.

MK-there is the Hall of Presidents and COP for a look into History.

MGM-Just recently opened a display from the Prince Caspain movie. And right next to it is a historical look into the live of Walt Disney and the building of the parks.

Ak- Animals!!!!!! You can find various different animal tracks on the walkways. Locating animals in the Tree of Life.

do the passport books cost money? Where can i get one? So they have an actual stamp-cool!

I love the idea of having the CM write "Hello" in there language. Whats a good size traveling journal for a 9year old? We've never done one does dd carry it around and write in it all day or wait until she gets back to the hotel?Whats the best way?

The passport can be bought at most gift shops and kiosks at Epcot. It is not free, but definitely worth the cost. As you go to each country, you can put a sticker stamp for that country. The cast members at each country will put a greeting in their native language there and sign their names. The Kidcot stations are a gret place to get this done and your DD can do a craft there as well.

Another great educational place is the Animal Kingdom. DD9 loves animals and there are great spots for learning about them. The conservation station has a veterinary exhibit where you can see live procedures (ask a CM for the schedule first thing in the morning). They usually have snakes there also to see and touch.
