We decided on our alotted spending money long ago. I plan on putting everything I can on the room and paying it off at the end of the week with my debit card. I literally NEVER carry cash. Are there things that only except cash? Things that its good to have cash for?
I plan on have the money for mousekeeping already in envelopes and ready to go. And we make take a cab or two...which I'm assuming we need cash for. Anything else?
Thanks from a first timer trying to be prepared :cool1: !

i did not run into a single place that didnt take the room key. not even any of the carts that i went to. but, thats not to say they arent out there. personally i wouldnt feel comfortable without $50 in my pocket at all times. you just never know when a computer could be down.

oh wait i just remembered this, we did go to a cart that the computer was down. it was in epcot near the water play area, they sold turkey legs. they machine was down and he wasnt taking credit cards, but was taking cash and romm keys. he just wrote the number of the key down with the amount owed. i never did check to see if we were charged properly.
so i guess it goes to show they do accomidate the guests. plus now that i think about it i dont think i ever saw a cart that didnt take the dining plan for at least something on the menu, so they would have to take a room charge.

I carry minimal cash - for small snacks and some of the carts. You can use your room key just about everywhere and there are ATM's if you do need cash.

There is a spending cap on your room key however and when you hit that cap you have to pay down the balance before you can continue to use your room key. I learned that the hard way last year trying to buy poncho's in the pouring rain :(

I now ask at check in what the resorts limit is and make sure I stop at the front desk for a printout every couple days and pay it down if need be.

Don't forget bell services, when they bring your bags to the room (if you use them)

Most of the carts do seem to have the key swipe now, but it's possible that it may not be working or you could stumble on one that doesn't have it yet.

I usually keep a $20 on me, along with KTTW card, DL & a CC (just in case)

We had that happen towards the end of our trip last year. We were buying pins, so it wasn't a big deal, but the CM called our resort (SSR) and they authorized upping our limit over the phone. Just took a few minutes for it to go thru the computer system.

Yep - they did that for me as well but it was a bit embarrassing esp since it took a few minutes and it was pouring rain and the folks behind me were getting "grumpy". Perhaps the CM could have handled it better.

So for me it's better safe than sorry even if it takes a few minutes. I usually check the line at the front desk and if its short I get my printout and have them charge my card.

you can also call the resort and authorize them to charge the credit card you placed with them and then you will be able to charge again.

what we do instead is at the end of every day i went down tot he desk and paid in cash what i owed. this way i knew exactly where i was all the time.

One thing to be cautious of-when you check in, the resort charges your credit card a certain amount of money. At the end of your stay, they'll credit what hasn't been spent, or charge more during your stay as appropriate.

If you use a debit card instead of a credit card, that charge will hit your bank account immediately, but the credit usually takes a few days to appear. In other words, as soon as you check in, you'll lose $1000 from your bank account. And anything you don't spend may take an extra 3-5 days after you check out to reappear in your bank account. Sometimes people aren't aware of this, and inadvertently bounce checks.

no, they just charged ours at the end of the trip. it was actually charged on the last full day, not the day we checked out. there charges other than the 10.56 that i owed for the last day(the other days i paid cash). my card never had anything else charged or credited.
i dont use a debit, dont even own one, so i dont know the policy for debits. but it would make sense that they would have to put a hold on the money in the account to assure that it was there before you started charging to that account.
so i would suggest using a credit card.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but it there any way to load $ on your KTTW card by paying in cash?

I don't want to use my checking account while down there-I have everything budgeted out already for spending $ put aside as cash-but don't want to carry cash.

I also don't want to put it on Disney cards in case I don't spend it all(it's a good thing to come back with some cash-lol).

So can I load my KTTW card weekly or daily- whatever- and not bring large amounts of $ with me into the park??

I hope this question is making sense:confused3

no you need a credit card to secure it. then you can certainly pay cash for your items, but they dont take cash to secure it.

but

why not just get a disney gift card and load that with cash and use that to pay for everything. it would effectively be the same thing.

The only reason I don't want to do that is because if I don't a lot and I load a Disney card with a weeks worth of budgeted spending money($500)-If I don't use it all-I would like to take that cash home with me as cash-not gift card. Did I explain that right? I am not a really big souvenier (sp) buyer-so I might come back with a lot of the spending money I went down with and I don't want it tied up in gift cards. But the other side of that coin is I don;t want to be carrying lots of cash for the "what if" I see something or get hit with the spending bug. If I could load the KTTW card and I didn't spend it then they could just credit it to my debit card and it would not affect the bills coming out of my checking account.

I hope I explained that right.:scared:

yeah i get that. but no they wont load a kttw. i would suggest then to just use a debit card. put in you account exactly wht you want to spend and then if you dont spend it itll still be there and then you cant go over.
or better yet use a visa cash card, load that and if you dont spend it all its just like cash.

Thanks for the help:) I'll probably go with the Visa card.

I know for us we have about 40 a day with us. I will tell you that most days we have the same 40 dollars on us. We don't go through tons of "extra" money like we use to when we would go. We will be using our Disney Visa for most other things since we will be starting over in points.

we took very little cash with us each day, maybe $30. The entire week we only spent $20 for a cab. Like the OP, we usually had the same $30 with us when we returned to our room at night....just nice to have it id we needed it.
