Remember all those brave men and women we lost, and those they left behind.

Awesome picture Rog.

I do remember that day. I was on the phone with a patient in Kansas when DW came down and turned on the TV. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I was in the chair getting a root canal done when Pres Bush landed at Offutt later that morning, the surgeon had the radio on while he was working. DW wouldn't stay home that night because we are too close to the base and she was afraid that something was aimed at Offutt and StratCom, we spent the night at her parent's farm.

A different world after that, to be sure....

It's only 10 minutes away......

But at 8:46 am eastern, please have a moment of silence. That is the time that the first plane hit the twin towers.

I remember that day well. My husband called me and told me a plane had hit to World Trade Center and to turn on the radio. We were both at work. At that time we didn't realize what was really going on. I couldn't believe my ears. It was so scary. I was listening and then the reports came of another plane hitting the Pentagon.
Then when we went home for lunch we watched in disbelief the news coverage.

I was testing an asphalt plant in Chipley, Florida that morning. The operator of the plant came up on the stack and told me what happened. A little while later he came up and said something bad is happening, another plane just hit the other tower. It was hard to concentrate knowing planes were being grounded and the Pentagon being hit. Of course the media was making it as dramatic as possible on the radio so as to paint a picture. I thought at first China was behind it because at that time they were threatening to invade Taiwan so I thought it was a ploy to keep us busy while they were doing that. God Bless those lost and who are and have fought for our freedom.

I remember that day all too well! It really hit home a few days later when I realized how many were lost trying to save others!!

My boss at the time called me and said he would be late because he just saw some news about an airplane running into the towers. I thought yeah, okay...

The rest of the day was spent with everyone running into the conference room to see the awful news develpments.

Bless all those who serve our country and stand up and say "Let's Roll..."

Peace. :hippie:

God bless all those who lost lives and loved ones that terrible day. That day will be rembered like Dec 7 is.

God Bless the USA

I made sure my goofballs at school got a poignant reminder of why we remember this day today. I hope I got my point across.

I had just taken my son to school around the block..on the way back I stopped to talk with my neighbor. It was a beautiful warm, clear September day. Inside the tv was on and I could see the that first tower had been hit. I called my neighbor. Her husband worked in the Trade Center. "I'm okay...Tom works in the other tower"...Tom had been in the tower when they were attacked back in 93 too. I called my husband, told him to get a tv into the office..something hit the Trade Center. Then the second plane hit. I went next door. My neighbor was frantically calling her husband..the phones were down..she was calling anyone who could get in touch with him. She wanted to get her kids out of school..she didn't want them to hear about this in school. I was going to get her kids when ..by the grace of God, the phone rang, and it was Tom. He was alive. He had an appt. uptown, and didn't go straight downtown that day. Only...his colleagues were calling him, they told him that they were told not to evacuate at first. They told him that people were jumping from the first tower. Horrified..we thought surely, he must be mistaken. He wasn't. I went back home, and called my parents to see if they had heard. They were watching. We have family who are FDNY. She was calling my Aunt. The first tower collapsed, my phone rang, my husband said he heard the Pentagon had been hit...and there's another plane out there. "Get the kids....we're under attack, stay in the house". Under attack? Under attack..NEW YORK is under attack? How can AMERICA be under attack it's AMERICA..it's FREAKIN' NY. Called my older son who was at work..he was on his way home. Went to the high school for my daugher. Those faces. Young, sweet innocent faces. They didn't look like wise *** high school kids that day. A group of them were sitting and standing silently in the office where they anxiously waited for a parent to come or call. The girls held back tears, and the boys had their heads hung low doing the same. Waiting they were, for parents who might not come..and for some they didn't. You wanted to say it would be alright..but you knew, and they knew..it wouldn't. I got my fourth grade son. What do you tell a fourth grader when he asks you "Why are all the parents coming to school taking the kids home". "Why" does dad want us to stay inside.."Will they attack us too...did we do something to them?"
Our skies normally heavy with air traffic, were screaming with quiet. By 3:00, my husband was home. My son was playing out on the driveway with my neighbors son when my husband pulled up. I went out to meet him. When he got out of the car..I realized how lucky I was he was home. How many won't be coming home tonight. God, let me just be in his arms and we'll be fine. Then we heard the loudest ROAR I've ever heard in my life. There was something in the sky lounder than the Concorde..and it was coming fast. I screamed for the boys to get in the house..."RUN, RUN, ...NOW! My husband grabbed me..."No, no...it's okay..it's okay!" Pointing up and showing the boys he said.. "They're ours...They're for us!" We're fine..cool huh guys?"..trying to reassure them after I scared them to death.
They were military jets patroling the skies. I knew I should have felt relieved..but I wasn't. My heart beat loud in my chest at the sound and then sight of those planes. It was real..this had really happened. A while later out on the deck, my son asked us what that smell was? Fire. The wind had shifted and we could smell the city burning. We didn't know it then..but in that smoke were the souls of 3000 people, who wouldn't go home that night.

kudos to you!! my kids school did not do anything!! All they did was tell them to wear red, white, and blue.. but didnt tell them why!!

My son's high school talked about 9-11 during their social studies classes. What they would do..who did this, where they were. They were so young at the time.. Most people didn't even know who Osma Bin Laden was or where Afghanistan was back on that day. I know I didn't.

In the younger grades, the district didn't want the kids viewing graphic images of 9-11, so they would speak more of the recovery, and the coming together of America. Now..I don't have a kid in elementary school..but that's how we were told it would be approached.
The high school kids..like my son..it was a different story. The images and video were used..and they discussed how it had effected them, and if they lost anyone that day. Anyone not able to discuss it or who didn't want to be in class could be excused. Also, one of the teachers had worked as a volunteer fire fighter, and participated in the recovery efforts in the first few days after 9-11. So she was able to share her recollection of that time. Of course... originally the district wanted to FIRE her, because she didn't come to school for a week. The residents went NUTS. She was my daughters 9th grade math teacher that year. All the parents called and said that we would gladly pay the salary of the sub they needed to get in the classroom for the days she missed. The superintendent was mad that the womans priority was not the kids (more like the districts), that she put her fire fighter job ahead of her "REAL" job. My daughter learned more from that woman that year...(okay..maybe not about math)..but she was an inspiration to the kids. As were many who voluntered.

Just one story. One of my daughter's best friends, Klaus, is an engineer who worked in Manhattan. He was supposed to have a meeting on the roof of one of the towers on September 11th at 9:00AM.

He had something happen at home and was very late and hurrying down there and made it to the WTC station when the first plane hit. Needless to say if he had been on time he wouldn't be with us today.

My neighbor..who was also in the building during the '93 attack, and by the grace of God, had a meeting uptown that day. He never went back to working in Manhattan. He worked for Morgan Stanley at the time. He changed jobs. Another investment firm. He travels a lot more than he did. He just doesn't want any part of going back to Manhattan. Yesterday he said, that it kills him that the buildings are still not rebuilt..the terrorist won.
My son on the other hand...became an New York City Police Officer...in Manhattan. I watch the news in a whole different way.
