They're Back :

There are always posts about bed bugs on the resort board - everything that you read on the internet of course is factual and true! :lmao:

There are bed bugs all over the place! No one is exempt:

Bed Bugs

I will be at All Star Music in November. Believe me, I'll be checking the beds AS SOON as I walk into the room! :scared1: I would rather be staying in my own bed in my camper, but not possible for this trip.

Bed Bugs

On the resort board a lady gives a run down of her stay at POR room number 2748...they closed down the room for 6 weeks and I beleive her, she told step by step what WDW did and is doing for her and her family. You can't make that stuff up when you have proof, and others around can confirm.

There is also a thread on the resort board of a family at the ALstar sports that have encounter a problem and also CBR...makes for interesting reading. :surfweb:

We have friends that were at CBR last spring and they had a roach problem :scared1: They changed rooms and had the in the new room too. They were pretty mad. Said they didn't go 1200 miles and spend almost $7,000 on this family vacation to end up with a room with bugs...and BIG bugs at that !! They were afraid to leave their bags open and tip toe'd all around the whole 10 days they were there.

That is another reason I love my motorhome !!

I think no matter where you stay..Dump or Deluxe..you have to check for these things. We had a lot of coverage about these nasty critters a couple of years ago..at some very upscale Manhattan hotels. They DO NOT discriminate. You have to look for the tell tale signs. Most of the headboards are removeable..you can spot bugs back there. The corner seams of the mattress, even unusual stains or spots on the walls.(blood). We did this the last time we stayed at the WL..it took all of about two minutes..and lilterally slept much better knowing the room was bug free. I do this whether we are staying in Disney or a Comfort Inn, just makes me feel better that we checked. I would think with the kind of use that Disney rooms get..it was bound to happen. The worst is taking them home. So you should check the drawers..they can hide in the crevices. That's why we keep our luggage on racks..and ask for an extra ones..keep it up off the floor. We don't use the drawers...we do hang some of our clothes up. There was an awful story about a family that went on a cruise ..and brought them home. They wound up losing their furniture and carpeting to these things..they are tough to get rid of once they find their way into your home. :crazy2:

I don't doubt that some of the posts are accurate, but there are tons of posts that are probably not....... bed bugs are everywhere and are a real problem - no one is immune.......

To be fair, I do have to say this CAN happen while camping too.

Last summer we camped in the U.P and the campground had lots of earwigs (one of creepiest bugs to me). We found find them in the camping chairs around the fire and had to knock them out of our crocs. We keep all of the kids toys, bats and gloves, extra drinks, etc is plastic tubs with lids so we thought we were pretty safe.

2 weeks after coming home, the kids went looking for the baseball gloves and there were LOTS of earwigs in the tubs. My dh said there were a few inside the storage compartments too

The world would be a much nicer place with no bugs !!

Yea I didn't need to read this...:scared:

Something about bugs just makes my skin crawl!

AHHH! Earwigs... the most disgusting, horrible, despicable bugs know to man kind. CREEP me out. There was one in my yard this morning. I thought we had escaped them this summer. Went to open the market umbrella on the dining table..and there one was in the fold of the umbrella. You KNOW where there's one..there's another. YUK..I hate them. :scared:

Of course they aren't the type of bugs you can loose your furniture and carpeting too. At least you can spray or have an exterminator for them. With bed bugs..that's a different story. It's better to take a few minutes and look for them....than spend thousands trying to get them out of your house once you bring them home.

Many times, people will suddenly start itching on their lower legs during the day, and just assume that all those little bites are from bedbugs. But, they're usually not. Bedbug bites do NOT itch.

Usually, especially down here in Florida, they are from no-seeums that got you the evening before, as you were watching the fireworks, etc. They seem to have a delayed reaction, with their bites starting to itch the next day.

I have a friend that stayed at a Courtyard last summer, down here, and insisted that her legs were all bitten up and itchy because she was sure there were bedbugs. So, I went back to her room with her, and we looked all over the bed, bedding, headboard, box spring -- and no bedbugs. Then she told me how she had been standing outside the night before, talking to friends, for quite awhile. Stupid no-seeums.

This brings to mind :

My friend went to disney and said that three days into the trip she thought her room at the AKL had bedbugs, her lower legs had sores on them and itched and were swollen, so she thought straight away " bed bugs" so she went to the hospital there in FL. and found out she had some sort of condition that's very common in the Florida heat, something to do with the heat and walking on hard pavement for hours on end and sweat ( I forgot what the name of it ).
Funny but I bet most people have never heard of this condition and they say it's very very common.

Show me somewhere in Florida that doesn't have "Palmetto bugs". I lived in Georgia for a year and despite the apartment complex spraying monthly, the "palmetto bugs" gradually came back. I guess if you don't like the giant roaches, you gotta stay out of the south.

Terri- Your friend had basic heat rash on her legs. I get it each and every time I wear socks or long pants in the heat. There is a scientific name for this and yes, it does have something to do with the concrete. I used to get it solely when I went to any Dinsey park on a hot summer day. I called it the "Disney Rash". Now I find I get the same rash on my lower legs when I'm working the outside garden register at Home Depot.

Bed Bugs - It was rumored back in December and January that the CBR, all of the ASR's, CR & WL had bed bugs. Maybe they did...maybe not. All bedding has mites of some sort. My solution??? If I have to stay at a hotel, I strip off the bedspread, ask housekeeping for an "extra" blanket - delivered to me & not the one on the rack, and spray the heck out of the bed & pillows with Lysol. I also carry plastic pillow protectors and cheap pillow cases that I use instead of the cases the hotel provides. I definitely do NOT want to sleep on a former guests drool.

Roaches - Sorry folks, but this is Florida. Roaches are a fact of life here & they have absolutely nothing to do with cleanliness. They can crawl through the tiniest of openings, and love palm trees. They are annoying, and palmetto bugs can be frightening due to their size and the fact they can fly, but neither roaches nor palmetto bugs will harm you in any way.

No-see-um's and sand fleas - These are also a fact of life in Florida. If you stand on any resort beach that has sand...you will get bitten by sand fleas or no-see-um's. If you stand outside at dusk you will get bitten by no-see-um's. If you don't want to get "chewed up", make sure you use the bug spray. I however, find spray to be futile against the no-see-um's - long pants are the best defense against those.

One of my favorite (okay..funniest Disney memories)
Last trip there was a Palmetto bug the size of a small bird hitching a ride on the monorail from the MK. I have never seen one so huge. The train pulled into the MK..and we watched as it was on the outside..then the doors opened, and it went right on in with a crowd of people. We sat opposite where we saw it enter..and then the train pulled out. THEN the lights went out. That's when the fun started. Ladies SCREAMING :scared1: .. Men STOMPING :scared1: ...SCREAMING :scared1: ...children:sad: CRYING..(adult's crying too!), more STOMPING! :scared1: I mean grown men were pounding on this thing..and it wouldn't die. :scared1: The best was the dad trying to reassure the screaming tyke, "look honey..don't be afraid..it's Pumba's friend" ..(she didn't want to hear it..especially when they were trying to kill Pumba's friend!) Finally this went on until we reached the POLY..and then it was kicked out the door by a flood of people exiting. It was still in one piece. Dead...but one piece. Ahhh..the Disney magic. :wizard:
