We have NO CLUE on bands other than Ethan Allen and La Z Boy.

There are so many bands out there and honestly, I just have no clue what the quality is like.

Can you tell me some quality name brands for leather furniture that is more in the La Z Boy price range than the Ethan Allen range?

Thank you,

Dawn

Well I would have to say to stay away from La Z Boy. We have a set from them that is not leather but we paid quite a bit for it and it is a piece of junk. The pillows were flat in less than a year, the fabric is shredded and started to shred at about a year and the legs on the bottom spin because they do not screw in tight. This is not a motion piece but a sleeper sofa with attatched chaise and a loveseat. Their customer service is a joke. There is no service at all. The customer has to pay for them to even come and look at your couch. As you can tell I am quite irritated with wasting all this money on this set. It makes me sick. We too are in the market for leather furniture. Macys had a really nice set and it was a good price. Their furniture comes from Chateau D'ax. Ashley is nice furniture too.

We bought a couch (almost $2000.00) about three years ago from Ethan Allen. We will NEVER make another purchase from that company again. Within the first month the fabric began to pill. We were away for half the month; have no children or pets & it still pilled. Pilling is not covered under their warranty. I even contacted corporate & nothing - a definite lack of customer service.

Last month some friends went to the same Ethan Allen store & did not receive good customer service at all. My friend did a search for customer reviews of Ethan Allen & found several not so positive comments. These friends ended up purchasing two Stickley leather couches that are absolutely beautiful. They purchased them from a local furniture store.

You might also do a search for stores that sell furniture made by American Leather. I'm not sure how expensive their pieces are but I know several people who have bought furniture made by American Leather and love it.

Thanks. I will take a look.

Anyone else?

Has anyone heard of Berkline? Is that any good?

wonder where I can read reviews? I need to do some more searching.

I don't know where you are in NC, but there is a Broyhill Showroom in Blowing Rock and we purchased a leather couch there 2 years ago. It is fantastic quality and customer service is outstanding.

We got an almost new recliner and reclining sofa off of Craigslist last year for $500. They are leather Lazy Boy. We like then, though I wouldn't have picked cream out originally. I was still doing home daycare and didn't want to spend too much on anything the kids would ruin. (Had to sell the old one after someone had an accident and flipped the cushion to hide it, the smell got into the wood and we couldn't get it out. :headache: )

My mom got a super expensive leather sectional last year that is horribly uncomfortable. You constantly slide off while sitting and the back is too low. She also has buttons popping off and seams coming undone. Make sure you try it out for a while before you decide!

Wow! I had the exact opposite experience with LaZBoy. We bought a leather recliner sofa from them almost 10 years ago and the sofa is still going strong. We had LaZBoy come out twice to fix each of the recliner ends...cost us $25 each time and they were in and out in 30 minutes. We had such a good experience with the first piece, that we bought our living room furniture from LaZBoy too. And that living room sofa and love seat are the most comfortable pieces of furniture I have ever been on. Anybody that comes over eventually falls asleep on the sofa.

My family room is Natuzzi and has held up really well. It is a cream/tan leather and cleans pretty easily. We have the same sofa at the lake only in the sleeper version and it has done well also. Although it is not really all that comfortable to sleep on. ;)

I work for Calico Corners, they have a store in Charlotte, NC. They sell furniture (including both real leather and Sensuede, which is a fake suede that is stain resistant) that is very well constructed. In fact, there are some leather couches that have been in our corporate office for years, that are well-used and still are comfy and look great.

If I recall correctly, they are on par with Ethan Allen's pricing, but we stand by our construction as well. (And what I like is that you can get leather on almost any of the frames, instead of choosing between 2 to 4 styles.)

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. :)

We wanted a leather sectional, that was like theatre seating. In other words, it has seats on the end that recline, and 2 stationary seats in the middle. In between the recliners and middle section are the 2 wedges with cupholders. (it rocks, because no need for end tables, and there is storage in the wedge as well). We bought a brand called Palliser, made in Canada. It is NOT an expensive brand, but after 2 years, no problems. I have 4 teens and dogs. I just could not afford the really expensive stuff.

Website has a store locator, I think the chain we went to is closed now.

I have a Natuzzi set, too, it's a good brand. We've had this set (sofa and loveseat) for 2 years, with 3 dogs who think they own them, and they look great.

Bought them at Costco! Costco tends to carry higher end brands at good prices. Though they don't have my set anymore, they have some nice ones in the store right now that I just saw tonight. If you have a membership, it might be worth a try.

Plus, Costco stands by their merchandise quite well.

We're looking for leather too. The set I like is from DeCoro. I want reclining so I'm a bit limited and DH doesn't want the poofy stuff. He's more of a straight line guy (engineering!).

We bought a leather sofa (Berhardt??? I think that's the brand) from Boyle's in NC. We are very happy with it and thrilled with the company! We saved a ton of money buying through them and the shipping was very reasonable. I think they have a website, but not all the furniture they carry is on their site. I just shopped at local furniture stores (chains and others) and then called them because their prices were so much better.

We have a DeCoro sectional w/ recliners on both ends. It's about 4 years old and in great shape. It's chocolate brown and very comfy. I have no pets but I do have 3 young kids and it's held up great so far.

We have a Palliser sectional that has two recliners. It is about 6 1/2 years old. Everyone seems to sit on the one end and the top layer of leather has pealed away -- it looks terrible!! It began to peel about 2 years ago -- mostly on this one seat, but also in little spots elsewhere. I have 3 kids (11,13,15) and a dog -- but the dog doesn't go on the furniture. We went with a mid grade leather & we have not been too happy with the way it has held up -- we paid about $5000 and won't do it again. I'd rather buy a cheaper set that I know will only last 5 years and then get a new one than to have some thing that looks good on one end and bad on the other. With the money we spent I can't justify buying a new set quite yet.

By the way - did you all know that "Top Grain Leather" does NOT mean it's the highest quality leather? It just means that they split the side of leather in half (making it thinner) and are using the top (outside) part. (The other part is suede.)

Also, you want to find out how the leather is dyed - good quality leather is dyed so that it's all the way through, not just dyed on the surface. That way when it gets scratched, it'll be less visible.

(I'm in our company's training department, and they have a whole training segment on leather. :))

This is the couch that I'm saving up for...
Evan's Leather Sofa

Natuzzi leather is the best stuff out there! You can find some really good sales as well. This stuff has held up through all the kids and dogs and still looks like new.

I purchased my leather sofas and chairs from Boyles in NC. They are made by Hancock and Moore.

From what I remember, they have different prices depending on the grade of the leather you choose.

This is my third set of leather sofas. The first two sets were supposed to be "fine" Italian leather and I supposed they would have held up as long as no one sat on them. Needless to say, they didn't last very long.

This set looks as new as the first day it arrived over 5 years ago.
