Garage Sale Question

My MIL is having a garage sale this weekend and I am putting stuff in her sale. I have 3-4 totes full of clothes and thought I would just do a bag sale for those clothes. Do I just put a sign up? If so how much do I charge to fill a bag? Thanks!:)

How big of a bag are we talking? A plastic Wal Mart bag? Most clothes at garage sale go from a quarter to $2-$3 so it's hard to say.

Yes, I was going to use a Wal-mart/grocery bag. I thought this way would be better than pricing all of them. I open for any other suggestions.

I love bag sales and always buy more than I would piece by piece.

Typically the churches are the only ones that do it here. Usually they charge $3 - $5 a bag. Once in a while we run into a late in the day sale for $1 a bag. I really rack up then.

A friend of mine has good luck just posting a sign that states that each item of clothing is .50. No pricing of individual pieces and easy to add up at the check out.

Good luck!

What we do is lay a large tarp on something on the ground, put all on the clothes on it and put a sign up that is .50 each.

We make so much money on those clothes!

A tarp?! why didn't I think of that, I always hang each piece up only to end up giving away my good hangers!

The only stuff we do hang up is the clothes that are priced more then .50, we also do not give the hangers away!

Some people will go thru every item of clothing that is on that tarp -

I agree that individual pricing makes more sense for the customer, and probably more of a profit for you. Unlike a church rummage sale, where the sizes run the gamit from x-sm to xx-lg, your adult clothing will likely be all in the same size range - limiting those who will be interested. .50 sounds good to me.

I have decided to have a garage sale this weekend  why?!?!?!? Now I am cleaning out the garage... Ugh! :scared: I have thrown away so much already I am wondering how much I will have to sell.. I hope I can make a large amount of money and sell everything in one day, or close to everything! :)

BTW my mothers church made almost 2,000.00 in 2 days off of mostly clothing at a 1.00 a bag yes that's a lot of clothes most of which would not have sold had they been individually priced.

They had done the 1.00 a bag the 2nd day for years an decided this year to do it both days from the beinging, Even at 3 to 5.00 a bag most of those clothes would not have sold. Sometimes it's much better to go cheap cheap move more an make more than to price higher sell less an make less.
