I have an old sewing machine I want to sell on Ebay, but I can't get it out of the cabinet. It has two pegs on the back holding it in. Can anyone tell me how to get it out?
If you have any type of owners manual, especially an older one, where they detail everything. It might have a picture of what you need to do.
If you don't you might try googling, the make, model, etc of the mahine w/ the words manual, or operation. May find something online to give you assistance. Even better if there is a pic of what you have to do.
It's a Singer 401A. Made in 1957 I think. I found a picture of it on a website in the exact same cabinet. So, I guess the cabinet is part of it. With the cabinet and the machine, this is HEAVY, and I don't know how I would ship it.
I guess I'll figure out something else.
If I"m not mistaken most of the old cabinet type sewing machines are useless outside the cabinet... The ones I remember were made so that if you had the machine out of the cabinet you couldn't use the machine because it didn't have anything to support just setting it on a table... I would look closely before trying to take it out... as for shipping... it would be very expensive... you might find the only money you get form it would be to sell it as scrap metal.
The pegs normally don't come off; they are cast as part of the hinges. If you don't have a "portable" case for it, then you really can't sell it without the cabinet, as it won't stand up without it. I suppose you COULD buy some really high density foam and hollow it out to form a shipping base if you wanted to.
Normally to remove the machine from the cabinet as you would for maintenance, you tilt the machine back 90 degrees and then lift straight up.
List it on ebay anyway & instead of shipping, choose the option that says "local pickup only". We went that route with a loft bed my granddaughter had that we didn't have the room to set up.
Take several pictures of the machine, both closeup & a shot that shows the whole setup. Good luck!
