We are going to the world in less than a week and we dont want to take all cash. What have you guys found to be the best thing? Travelers checks, loading $$ on a card like a visa card (but isnt there fees?), ect. And if you suggest travelers checks are they easy and convenient to use at the stores in the world. Just wondering beaucase thats the only thing that I can think of....especially if it gets lost. You have the sercurity that no one can spend them. HELP!!!!

This may sound stupid, but what is wrong with a credit card? You can pay it off when you get home and in the meantime you are protected against theft and loss.

We usually take a little bit of cash, split evenly between mine and DH's wallet, our debit cards, and a couple of credit cards. DH and I have one credit card that is in both of our names, but we also each have a credit card that the other isn't on. So, we'd be covered if one of our wallets got lost/stolen but the other one didn't.

We just always use our debit/visa card or we charge to the room and pay the bill before we leave.

The only thing is I didnt know if the little places like the pop stands took cc's. Thats the only problem i had with taking a cc.

Every stand we have encountered lately has taken a room card.

I won't be allowing charges to my room key (I'd hate to think of what might happen should I lose the key!), but I will be carrying around a little cash for the stands that don't take credit cards. I'll put everything else on my Universal card and pay it when I get home. ;)

We get an even amount of Disney Dollars at the Disney Store for each kid and a Disney gift card. If they spend all their disney dollars on light up sticks that come out every night than that's all they get. It seems to work well and keeps them in check when they realize they actually have to give up those dollars for every whim they see. My ds6 did not like handing over $10 of his disney dollars for that mickey balloon he just had to have. I think he "got it" after that.

I got a gift card for my last trip but now that so many of the Disney stores have closed, you might have to consider taking cash and getting a gift card at the resort or first park you go to. That would be my suggestion for avoiding cc.

I got an AMerican Express Gift Card (yes it cost money but look around and find a deael maybe at a local credit union.) and we used that for the trip. I also used traveler's checks.

I didn't want to put anything on the cc

I believe that almost everything at Disney will take a cc. Last time I went, I took $20 for the day and came back with all of it untouched.

If you buy a reloadable green dot credit card this week at CVS and make a purchase at CVS before Oct. 11 using it - they will creidt 9.95 to the card - essentially making it free. If you want a Visa card like that - you can go get it and now have to worry about paying off a card when you get home.

I charge everything on the Disney card and pay it off when we get home, we take very little cash, mostly just enough for tips and small purchases. Even with DD's fun money, I charge it and she pays me. We have lost a gift card once when she left her fanny pack on a ride, luckily we got it back but she kept thinking that she lost her $50.00.

ATMs, unless you are a part of that bank, will generally charge you a fee. $1.00 from your bank and $1.00 from their bank is $2 you could have spent elsewhere. :thumbsup2

Which is still LESS then the impact when you lose your wallet with ALL your cash.

Also, gift cards are not much safer then cash. Lose them and they are gone...

That would be why I am using my credit card & only bringing <$20 cash to cover stands that may not accept credit/AMEX.

I used my debit card for everything.

I do take some cash to incidentals and tips and then I stop at an ATM as needed (but not often because of the fees).

I like to use travelers checks. I budget much better that way. Set amount per day, set by how much I've managed to save up! If I just used my cc I'd probably overspend. I didn't want to buy the cash card totally because you have to buy it. I don't like to waste money. But since travelers checks are free at AAA, I prefer to just use them. Never had a problem cashing them at any store or restaurant, and there's generally enough cash in my pocket to get ice creams at a cart. That's my preference.
