The GROOVIER New Pop Century FAQ Thread! ~ Post #1 is a must see!

I just wanted to thank everyone at this thread for helping alleviate my concerns on trying Pop-I loved Pop! Don;t be afraid to try a value!

Unless it has been added recently POP or any of the value resorts do NOT have Bell services. They do sometimes help you, but it isn;t a bell service per se. I think when I saw help it was the maintenance type guys. I very much doubt they will pick you up at your room unless you have a disabilitie. And for mos t people they do not pick up or take luggage to your room. ME will deliver luggage to your room, but leaving, you are usually on your own.

POP does have luggage service. I've been using it since our first stay in Feb 2004, so it is not new. :) If not on ME, a guest can drop off the room number with luggage after you check-in and they will take the luggage to your room. It is not individual service and might take a couple of hours (less, if not busy).

At check out, you can call and set up a time for luggage pick-up, then go get your luggage from luggage service when ready to leave. When I called, someone was at my resort door within 10 mins (but I could have set up a time) and when I picked up the luggage a few hours later, he took it over to the ME bus waiting area for me (I was on SW, so no luggage check-in at the resort).

It's not as personal as Bell Services, but POP definitely has Luggage Service! ::yes::

We have a standard room reservation and are hoping to get a quiet room that is fairly close to the main building and parking lot.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good room?

How do I go about requesting a specific area/room?

TIA

Here is the map of the 50s.

We were on the parking lot side of the Lady building, in rooms 1154-1157. They were great!
It was first floor, so you could request an upper floor, but we never heard anyone above us.
As you can see, they were only 5 rooms in from the preferred. 1149 (or the upper floors) would be the closest standard without paying for preferred.

We requested Closest to Classic Hall and closest to the parking lot, and this is where they put our grand gathering, so I was very pleased.

The laundry was right around the corner, other side of the building, so that was a bonus for me also.

Happy to answer any other questions. :wizard:

Excellent advice!!! :thumbsup2

Our quietest rooms have been in bldg 3 (Tramp) lakeside, 4th floor. We had this location twice. Great view of lake and top of IllumiNations at night. :)

Some might want to be closer to the lobby and food court, but we loved it. Quiet, easy walk over to parking and maybe a 4 min at most, strolling, to the foodcourt, a minute more to the bus.

Bldg 2, lakeside was also very quiet, right next to parking, but a further walk to the lobby and food court, Probably would not be crazy about that location again...although we also liked poolside building 2, 4th floor. No noise at all, but it was not swimming weather that time.

Have a fun planning!:goodvibes
p.s. To add requests just call Disney reservations (or your TA if you booked that way) and ask the requests to be added to your reservation. Try to keep it to not more than 3, with the most important...for example:
1. Quiet location
2. close to food court/lobby
3. 4th floor

Thank you so much for the info. I love the map you were able to provide us. It is really helpful.

Where can I find a map with the preferred rooms marked like that for all of Pop?

Also, is it available for All Star Sports? My sister is staying there and I know this would help her as well.

TIA

Thank you for the info. A view of the lake and IllumiNations! Very cool! I had no idea.

From which buildings can you see IllumiNations?

I guess specifically, which rooms are the best locations for viewing Illuminations?

TIA

Hi, I can't believe I booked this trip 100 days ago and I've been on this board almost everyday since and I still have questions!

Should I pack mosquito repellent?

Do they give you extra towels for the pool or must you request them - are they at the pool or in your room?

What time of day does Mousekeeping come by?

What's the best website for weather forecast?

2-1/2 days to go & I'm only halfway through packing a fam of 5 (w/ toddler!),

I'd say pack bug spray just in case. We're going on Monday and we packed some.

You can take the towels from your room but you should call and request some more if you'll need them to shower after pool time! We're packing 2 beach towels though.

I use NBC.com [It takes you to http://www.weatherplus.com/] for weather. Weather.com has been wrong the past few months about the weather here and doesn't update that often.

Have never had a problem with mosquitoes...I think Disney sprays...

Whenever we've been there big carts of towels left out by the elevators when we would come back from the parks, presumably for pool use...we'd always grab a few to use in the room. :thumbsup2

We got our confirmation number a few days ago, can we find out what building we're in or do we have to wait until we get there?

Both the map she so kindly directly you to as well as the preferred room maps are in Post #1. You'll find many more there as well that are awesome!

WOW!!! I will be definitely spending time on the first post going through all of the information.

Looking at the maps, it is difficult for me to see which rooms might have an obstruction or a bad angle in trying to see IllumiNations.

From personal experience, does anyone have a suggestion for good rooms from which to view IllumiNations?

TIA

My advice: Room 2453! I was there last week in room 2458 and a tree blocked our view. I checked out the view from each room (balcony) and this had a great view! I have to say that I am not sure that the extra walk with 2 young ones was worth the view. Next time I would stay closer to Classic Hall and walk over to see the fireworks. It was a very quiet room though!

It's really hard to tell which rooms are good for an IllumiNations view, but I know in building 3, rooms 3432 thru 3436 have a good view right out the window and from the walkway (it's the top of IllumiNations) and from 3413 and the ones along that corridor you can step outside your room and look to the right to see it. :) One night in room 3435 we say MK Wishes in the distance and IllumiNations at the same time! There was a party going on at MK, so the timimg happened to coinside - amazing!!

There are also some rooms in building 4, but I would simply request a view of fireworks. If you request a certain room and it's already occupied you could wind up anywhere - and be sure to ask at check-in about rooms with that view - they will be able to help you then too. Most POP CM's at check-in are great! (have those room numbers with you).

Good luck!!!!:goodvibes
p.s We have stayed in rooms 3413 and 3435 - all of the above rooms have a great lake view too. :)

I've not had a problem with mosquitos there but I usually bring something just in case.
Towels are best requested by mousekeeper or should I say thru the mousekeeper. Ours gave us tons and kept them stacked .
Mousekeeping usually comes in the morning !

Is there a lot of traffic at the elevators? Last year we stayed 2nd floor and took stairs every time. It was very convenient. I was thinking of requesting a 4th floor this time but we would have to use the elevator w/ my children and their little legs. So my question is, are the elevators crowded and do you usually have to wait? Thanks :thumbsup2

We were there in Dec last year and never had a problem with the elevators. We were on the 3rd floor I think and had a stroller, so we always took them.

We just booked our trip to go back to POP in December again! I can't wait. Have there been any big changes??

I've read some recent posts that people are seeing matresses are being changed in certain buildings. Does anyone know if the 80's buildings have been switched yet? I will switch my requests to the 50's if the 80's still have the old matresses.

Don't think I've ever been on a crowded elevator in the 5 times we've stayed there - actually, the Poly GCH is the only place we've encounted crowded elevators on property...oh, and maybe CR as well.

Never POP - sometimes one or two other people, but usuallly no one else - and last week POP was pretty full and I was in preferred building, overlooking the Hippy Dippy Pool.

Another nice thing is that we never wait more than a few seconds. Don't think we;ve ever even waited a full minute for a POP elevator! Maybe due to resort being just a few years old, it has newer elevators. ;)

Those sweet little legs will be fine!:flower3:

ok,,,, so in about 80 hrs i will be at POP  ... I recentaly had my ACL replaced.... I have asked for something in 5 or 6 first floor closest to the hall as possible.. Can you call ahead and see what room you are in or wait till you get there? I am just worried with all the walking... I can't afford an EVC... aslo does POP have wheel chairs?:cool1:
