Walking Nassau Yourself vs. Nassau Bus Tour

Trying to decide if it is worth the $23/ per person for the Nassau Bus Tour versus just walking around Nassau yourself. I would like to see the Queen's Staircase, really don't want to do the straw market. Any thoughts? Thanks,

Google "walking tour Nassau". One of the first items that come up is the Frommers walking tour of Nassau complete with a map. This is what we used to tour the city. It was very doable just be sure to wear good walking shoes. When you get up to the fort, there is a really good view of all the ships in port.

I highly recomend doing a tour on your own.

The walk is about 2 hours in length. The staircase looks like it is 6 blocks away. I have read others comments to take a taxi to the furthest point and walk back. I have been to Nassau many times, but have never done this. Maybe in November.

I did the bus tour in January, and I enjoyed it. The weather was not very nice, so I'm glad I didn't do the walk on my own.

Thanks!! This is just what I was looking for! Great pic. Rather than rush off the boat in the morning, we'll stay onboard a little while, eat lunch, then go out for the walking tour in the afternoon. Just have to make sure I'm back at the boat to board! Anyone know what time we usually have to be back? Thanks again, I printed the info and map off!

the bus tour was good as well. they took you into some of the housing areas. as always, I guess, it depends on your tour guide. we have done the bus tour and did the walking tour.

We did the walking tour on our own as well, and it was great. We did go by the straw market but only to show our companion who was in Nassau for the first time. We walked up past the hospital and the courthouse, and to the top of the Queen's Staircase, and into the little fort at the top. What a view! It was easily done as long as you are able to walk outside for an hour or so without any problems.

One of the best things about it was that we got to appreciate the brightly-colored, Colonial style architecture and get some wonderful photos of a different side of Nassau than the icky port area. We followed the map in the Passporter, but you can follow any map you want.

Just be careful crossing the streets. Pedestrians do NOT have the right of way in Nassau!

Hubby and I did the same last September. We really enjoyed being able to go at our own pace and it really wasn't exhaustive at all. I think you will enjoy it. We printed out the tour from frommer's and took that along with us.

Really? Actually, in all honestly we did veer off a little bit every time we saw something that looked interesting, so I'm pretty sure we didn't stick to the actual suggested path. Maybe that's why I didn't notice.

After going past the government buildings (at the top of the hill), and heading down to the water tower and the steps and the fort, we passed through a section that was NOT good. There were a lot of boarded up, condemned houses and something was going down on one of the corners that we definitely didn't want to be a part of.

The only disney excursion we have ever done was the Nassau historical city tour. It was fantastic.

Straw market is near the port, you can do that by yourself no problem.
