What happens if?

What happens if one of your port of calls is destroyed during a hurricane or storm, etc.?

I know it unlikely to happen (hope it is unlikely) but State of FLorida has declared a state or emergency to the Key West area and South area of State?

Does the ship reroute elsewhere and change it's intinery? I know this happened with Cozumel?

Anyone had their intinary change because of storms and or storm damage?

The September 27 cruise was to go to Costa Maya but Disney changed that to Grand Caymen due to damage remaining from Dean last year. When there is a Hurricaine that is present or causes too much damage DCL will just change where the ship ports. It doesn't happen often but it does happen and they cannot always give you advanced notice. The solution is to remain open and enjoy whatever you are offered.

That was the answer I was hoping for. It doesn't matter to me where we stop as long as we get an excrusion somewhere!

In the 6 years we have been cruising with DCL I can only think of one 7 day cruise that was cut short. I am sure that each cruiser was provided a credit of some sort. And the one before got a longer cruise than expected. DCL has a long history of taking care of business and really tries to please everyone. I would not worry too much most likely your cruise will go off without a hitch and if there are issues DCL will do everything within their power to make it right. Enjoy I know I sure do. I am now at 34 day and counting untill I am again at home with the mouse.

Our 7 night in 2004 was changed to an "almost" 5 night due to Hurricane Jeanne. CC was a no go but not just due to Jeanne, but due to either Ivan or Charlie and we also visited Costa Maya as a replacement for Grand Cayman. We were on back to backs and the cruise that was delayed was #1, and on #2, we went to every port of call as scheduled (poor CC was looking brown and unhappy!) With trip insurance and patience, any changes, be it a delayed departure or missed port can be dealt with easily.

On a 2004 Wonder cruise, we couldn't go to Castaway because of heavy damage and went to Charleston instead.

Just to put all the cards on the table.....read the fine print in your 'cruise contract' and notice that the port calls are not promises. A cruise line reserves the right to change the itineray as required for weather or just about any other reason. This provides the ship's Master the flexability to avoid the bad weather and operate the vessel in the safest manner possible....AND pursue the best experience for the pass'..

Having sat with the Master of a few cruise ships and discussed this and other stuff I can ASSURE you that they don't drop port calls (esp CC) lightly because customer feedback is very important in the cruise industry. On the other hand safety first is paramount. When you are moving something that big with that many people on board you take nothing for granted.

It is quite likely that today's departure is seeing a change to the plan......

On the down side...SOMETIMES when a port gets cancelled a replacement just isn't possibe. You don't just "show up" with a cruise ship and get a parking space. It is a bit more complicated than that. Decisions need to be made far enuf in advance just to turn the ship in time to get there; not to mention arrange shore excursions etc etc. So please be firmly-flexable and trust they ARE working in your best interest. A day at sea is GREAT IMHO!
