WCC or Sci-Fi?

We have one more TS to plan for our December trip and are trying to decide between the Sci-Fi Diner and Whispering Canyon for dinner. Our family consists of myself, DH, DD6 and DS4. Our other ADRs include O'hana,Chef Mickey, LeCellier (CP package), and Biergarten.

So, for our crew and considering our other ADRs, which would you choose? WCC or Sci-Fi?

Thanks,
Jennifer

That's a tough choice because they both have a lot of fun to offer a 4 and 6 year old.

Do your kids like to watch television....especially old time TV? Sitting in the old fashion cars is really more fun for the adults than the kids....gee mom, it's a car, whoopee. BUT....watching the funny/silly film shorts and such were a riot for my kids (albeit they're older than yours). They kept turning around to ask "did you really watch this stuff"....it was soooo old and soooo corny. Some kids won't like it because it's in black and white mostly, so that may be a consideration. There are also a few "creatures" as was popular in that era.....very clunky looking and pretty phony by today's standards, but a very sensitive or easily frightened 4 year old might not appreciate any creature close up.

WCC is just hilarious with antics. Some of them that seem most common are to have someone in your party order a "large" soda.....it will be big enough to give the 4 year a bath, lol. Tell them your straw is too short. Ask for ketchup and dozens of kids from other tables will race to put a bottle on your table....and of course later your kids can race to put it on someone else's table. Dress your kids in a shirt with another attraction on it (like Universal or Sea World) and they'll get comments. and more.....BUT....this is definitely NOT for a shy child. Shy folks tend to not like all the joking around, especially at their expense, or the attention. If your kids are outgoing this will a lot of fun for them, though.

Food wise, neither has great kid choices (actually few places do sadly)..........the Sci Fi has really great burgers and shakes for the adults....the kids meals are pizza and pasta, both which look unappetizing to my family....WCC has good pulled pork, prime rib and roasted chicken for the adults (plus bottomless milkshakes!), but again the kids choices aren't great, chicken strips and fish. One advantage WCC has food wise....they have a "skillet" that is basically all you can eat but they bring it to the table. It offers more variety so the kids may enjoy that better than the kids' meals.

One option would be at both places to order an "adult" meal for the kids to share. I've read that if you tell the server that the kids will be sharing such and such, they'll bring it out already divided on two plates.

Hope that helps you make a decision!

We are trying out WCC for the 1st time in Sept and can't wait. I really didn't care for Sci-Fi we didn't have a very good experience there and it has kept me from going back ever since.

We have done both!! My kids love both of them. When we are at Hollywood studios, the kids ask to eat at SiFi.....the love the atmosphere. This trip is just a one night to go to MVMCP and I am surprising them with a 2:00 ADR for WCC. They loved it the last time. My youngest dd, 11, was put into jail.
I am really looking forward to the lunch!!!

WCC has my Vote. We use to be a huge fan of Si Fi but since the menu change we don't go no more.

Our whole family really loved Sci-Fi in February! 2 of my 3 kids said that it was their favorite restaurant!

If I had to choose for the food it would be WCC. If I had to choose for atmosphere it would be Sci-Fi Dine-In. I know that doesn't help. ;)

:thumbsup2 We liked Sci-Fi. Even though it's not on the menu, adults CAN get burgers for dinner. :thumbsup2 That is what we did on a tip from others on the DISboards. It is worth a try at least once to experience it. However, I don't recommend it to people with small children. DS2 got antsy sitting in the car in the dark. So, I walked him around until our food arrived. DS8 and DD5 had a blast.

:thumbsup2 We are eating at WCC for breakfast AND dinner on our upcoming WDW trip. ;) So, you can assume we like it there. It helps we're staying in the VWL. DH and I shared the All-You-Can-Eat skillet at WCC. It was yummy. But, found I probably would have been better off just getting a normal plate of food. I'm not really a buffet/all-you-can-eat person. Even when we do go to buffets, I end up getting one plate full. I know, a waste.

It really depends on your kids and if you are looking for a loud in-park experience or more laid-back resort experience. :rolleyes1 If I had to pick only one though . . . I'd pick WCC. (But, we have already done Sci-Fi.) Also, you can explore the resort which is beautiful.

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

My youngest dd, 11, was put into jail.

Oh my! I think that would terrify my DD6...would someone PM me (or post it if it would not be a spoiler) how to avoid being put in jail?!? I think we are leaning toward WCC.

One more question...is the skillet included on the DDP and do the kids also have to get the skillet, or can they order from the kids meal (if adults get the skillet)?

Thanks so much for your responses!

:thumbsup2 They DO have a kid's menu and also a "kid price" for the skillet. Depends on what they want to eat. They can get either.

Does this happen all the time or is it more likely at Lunch/dinner ?

We want to try WCC for this very reason. DS (7) would love it !!!

All meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I have seen many posts where people have expressed disappointment that their server "wasn't into it"......I personally think that has more to do with how the guests react than with the server not being into it....same thing as 50's. I have noticed servers treating different tables differently (most often at 50's, but I'm sure the phenomenon is the same everywhere)....I really think the server "feed" off of the guests, and if the guests are really into it and playing along and seem to want it, then they keep it coming....but the guests who just kinda sit there don't get teased nearly as much.....maybe that's practice on the server's part to read people well enough to know when they aren't the type that want it....and maybe sometimes they misread and those are the families complaining. Don't know, but that makes sense to me.

No matter what restaurant we go to, Disney or not, my girls are always engaging servers in small talk (and sometimes boring the poor server I'm sure)...it's just their personality. THey haven't quite figured out that the whole world doesn't want to know about their upcoming trip to Disney, or whatever else is happening in their life, lol. So I'm sure it's very obvious to DIsney servers that they're ready to party! And sometimes I think we get it going to much even.

THe first time we went to 50's, we specifically told the hostess before we were seated that we hoped to have a lot of fun talking to our long lost cousin (this was a tip I read on DIS)......so that hostess knew we hoped to get a server with a lot of playfulness. The next time we were with friends and we forgot to ask, but still got a playful server. WCC we never asked, but I also don't recall seeing any servers NOT being playful, so might not be necessary.

If you go in with a "let's have silly fun" attitude, I'm betting you'll have a grand time! If you go in expecting to sit there and be entertained, you may be disappointed....the servers want to INTERACT not entertain. Entertain is passive for you, but Interact means you gotta give back as good as you get!

We've done both and they are both great. But I would vote for Whispering Canyon. The all you can eat skillets are great and the kids will love the "crazy antics"!!

I'll bet it is great, and DD6 is really pulling for it. :santa: We are really wanting to stay within budget, so we are going to see how $$ is closer to our trip.
