Flying Fish Opinions

We are coming in this weekend for an all-too quick trip. We decided to try something new and landed on the Flying Fish. We love seafood, and have read some good reviews here. Could you share your opinions on the restaurant itself, recommended appetizers, entrees, desserts, what to avoid or even top-notch servers to request?

I'll defer to TigerKat's review for more details, but I would say to try the calamari or cheese plate (appetizers), and the potato wrapped red snapper (entree). Can't help with the desserts part.

I agree, one of our favorite places as well.

This is also a must do for my family. I loved the calamari and the crab cake.
The scallops were prepaired perfectly. The potato wrapped snapper was great. The salmon was good. We were there in the early winter, so the seasonal dessert offering was a study in winter apples. It was fantastic. My husband had the cheesecake and proclaimed it the best dessert he had the entire 8 nights we were at WDW. He liked it even better than the almond crusted cheesecake that he had at Narcoossee's.

Flying Fish was a good meal on our last trip - we ate there our first night (July 4th!). Anton is a great server - definitely worth requesting. Overall it was a pretty decent meal, but having eaten at bluezoo three nights later and Narcoossee's a few nights after that, Flying Fish is third on our list of seafood restaurants. This isn't to say that FF was bad, but bluezoo (request Eric) or Narcoossee (ummm - not a memorable server there, sorry) are better choices based on our recent experiences.

Well I guess this is one time I'll agree with a Yankee fan! LOL! We thought FF was fine, but for the money, there are much better restaurants IMO. We also loved Narcoossee's.

Yes, me too! They were both delicious!

That said, the rest of our food was subpar. And the service was too slow (sometimes slow is good, but this was awkwardly slow). And the entire restaurant smelled fishy, in the bad way not the good way.

We enjoy FF and ate there again last month. Had very good service, not slow at all and I did not notice a fishy smell. I had the cheese appetizer plate which was excellent and the scallops for my entree. DH had tuna tartar and the snapper for his entree. We enjoyed it very much.

We have always preferred FF over Narcoosees but I agree that bluezoo is in a different league.

We have ate at Flying Fish many times and always enjoyed our meals. The Potato Crusted Red Snapper is fantastic.

I ate at Flying Fish last year on my first night at Disney and have a reservation for the first night of this years trip. I am a vegetarian, I do not eat meat no exceptions however I do occasionally enjoy fish.

I remember for my starter I had the Tuna Tartare, I seem to remember it was done 2 ways, anyways it was gorgeous. For my main I had the crab cakes and again they were very nice. Don't remember what my mum and sister had for a starter but they both had the potato wrapped snapper as a main and both liked it a lot. We got a dessert to share (I for one am not a big eater and neither is my mum) I think it was the trio of sorbets as we'd wanted something light. My mum also then had a Glowtini - to get into the holiday mood.

Really nice restaurant, nice atmosphere and we had a really lovely server aswell. I can only hope it will be as good next month.

I just want to clarify - I am not knocking Flying Fish. It was a very nice meal, and the view is spectacular. I just wanted to point out alternatives that I thought were better. Our bill was about the same at all three places (yes - we went to all three this past trip!), so I don't think there is much cost difference between Flying Fish, Narcoossee, and bluezoo. I know someone asked where bluezoo was and then figured it out, but if anyone else doesn't know, it is at the Dolphin and is a Todd English restaurant.

Ate here last October and again in June. Its a favorite.

They changed the potato red snapper over the years - I liked the previous version much better (the leeks were to die for - now they are only ok).

I wasn't fond of the crabcake, its a good crabcake but a little on the overspiced side for my own taste. Their basil/tomato/mozzerella is to die for though. There desserts are good, but have also gone downhill over the years (still mourning the napoleons that graced the dessert menu). Love the decor. Service has been OUTSTANDING twice and marginal once (but then, we had marginal friends with us who made the whole dining experience less than pleasant - the people you hate to sit next to in a signature place because their kids aren't up to it and they don't know how to dress for one - those were our guests). I really go for the pineapple upside down martini.

It used to be a GREAT restaurant and is now a good restaurant.

This is one of our favorite restaurants and our last couple of times we requested sitting at the "counter". It's almost like a chef's table.
You are actually seated at the counter just across from where the chefs are preparing the meals. You can chat with them and it makes for quite an enjoyable evening. Just an added touch.
