Which is Better? Hoop Dee Do or Backyard BBQ?

We frequently visit the Fort and try to do one special theme dinner while we are there. I think the $30+ for BBQ food is a bit much even for Disney! Just wondering if Mickey's Backyard BBQ was worth all the $? How about Hoop Dee Do? We have not been to that dinner/show yet either. Mostly b/c my husband is not a big country music fan. We are heading over to the Wilderness Lodge Whispering Canyon resturant when we go in a couple weeks! Can't wait to go! We haven't been since January and we miss it!
Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Nikki

If I had to choose it would be Hoop de Doo. The BBQ was okay. Just picnic food and way too many people to do anything on the dance floor. We do love the Whispering Canyon. We have had some wild visits over there.

I think it depends on the age of the kids. I would only go to the Backyard BBQ if you have young kids. It's a great way for them to see the characters and get some pictures and autographs. The food was ok. It's buffet style so because of all the kids making their own plates it was a bit messy. You also need to get there early so you can get a good seat. We got there right on time and ended up at the last table way on the outside edge of the pavillion.

My kids preferred the Hoop Dee Doo by a long shot. They all laughed at the corny jokes and we all thought the food was really good. And you have assigned tables so you don't have to be there an hour early for a decent seat.

We've never been to the BBQ so can't compare but the hoop is great! You've gotta do it at lest once! BTW it'smuch better than the luau

It depends - would you rather share a hot dog with a giant rat or ribs with a doofus who tells corny jokes? Age is irrelevant. I am 51 and like the BBQ.

is that what your wife says when she makes you dinner?

i've never been to either, and probably never will.

We did the BBQ once....dont feel the need to do it again....I cant wait to do the HDD one day before too much longer.

The BBQ really depends on the kids. My girls were 14 and 12 when we went last year. They both enjoyed it, but it's not something that we will probably do again. We'll probably do HoopDeeDo next trip. We did that in 2003 and everybody loved it. The girls were 10 and 8 then and loved it. They were a little bummed that we didn't go last year.

BBQ is more for kids, HDD is more for everyone (although everyone can obviously go to both and still have a good time).

The HDD is more of a dinner show, so if that's what you're looking for, you have to check it out. I guarantee you will have an absolute blast!

Come on, this is Disney, if you complain enough, they'll give you the Fort :P lol

all I asked for was some of their bad buffet food at the snails end...... and was shot down.

I prefer the Luau over the HDDR simply because I can get beer, BBQ & country entertainment lots of places. The food served at the Luau is very unique (and yummy), and the show is capivating. It's not the typical "Disney Character" show. We've never done the BBQ & probably won't.

In all honesty, it's a matter of personal preference. Some like HDDR, others don't (like me). Some like the Luau (like me), others don't.

If you think your family would enjoy the HDDR, then by all means...go for it! It's about your vacation & what appeals to your family. :thumbsup2

I am having the same dilemma HHD, BBQ or Luau. I guess they all equal 2 dining points for sit down so we only want to do 1. Our kids are 9 and 7. I don't think we could go wrong no matter what we decide I just want to pick and hit a grand slam. I so can't wait to go. We decided last night to go all out for another vacation, meals, parks etc.

If I had to pick from the three, I would say hoop...I have heard the luau has gone downhill in recent years....idle gossip, but it is what i heard

he's now proclaiming not to be into ketchup much anymore.
