Camping mis-adventures

I finally figured out why my husband hates camping - he's never had a good experience if it involved a tent, trailer or motorhome.:lmao:

A short list of DHs and his families camping mis-adventures:

- DH was 4 at the time and his parents took him tent camping. He woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Something had either bitten or stung him and he was swelling up badly. Whatever it was, it left two marks and required a trip to the ER.

- Another trip, this time in a pop-up, BIL (3 at the time) woke up in the middle of the night screaming of course - and they couldn't find him! He'd rolled right out of the pop-up and was on the ground outside of the camper.

- FIL, while parking his motorhome at a craft festival somehow managed to run over himself with the motorhome.

- Another motorhome and another craft show. DH (14 at the time) had to run back to the motorhome to use the facilities. Didn't quite make it and forever associates that bad memory with camping.:confused3

- Several years ago FIL was driving the motorhome back from a craft show when a wheel went flying off the thing.

I kind of get why he may be a little cautious about joining the kids and me on our camping trips and I'd rather not take any chances with bringing him along. Apparently, my DH is cursed!:rotfl:

HOLY CRAP !!
I think I'd leave him home too !!
Just kidding,,sounds like he could use a really good camping trip. Sounds to me:goodvibes like maybe he needs a little Disney Magic at the Fort.

To me those all sound like great trips. Because he remembers them till this day. Nobody ever says remember that trip that went perfect and nothing happened.
All of our trips to Disney where something went wrong we talk about them to this day.:thumbsup2

take him with you it will make things more interesting.:rotfl:

yeah take him if only to create more memories!!! All is fun when you are at the Fort....and like the last poster said:thumbsup2 ...a bad day at the Fort is better than a good day at work!!!

I ran out of beer once while camping! While it was a nightmare I was able to make it the store and stock up before I sobered up. Close call :dance3:

I've tent camped twice in horrible thunder and lightning downpours. Once in Santee, SC when I was almost 8 MONTHS PREGGO! THAT was soooooo fun. It was really a weekend getaway trip for the kids, and I wouldn't never camp pregnant again. You should've seen me - giant belly, down on my knees using every towel I could find to dry our tent floor. It was like using a tiny bucket to get the water out of your sinking boat. :sad2:

Second time (not pregnant) was in Hershey, PA at a BEAUTIFUL campground. First, there was a train that roared through about every 45 minutes all night long (just outside the property, but it rocked the place) - so the next night we purchased our earplugs - which helped... until...

The storms started. ALL NIGHT LONG. Wind, thunder, lightning (which I would swear hit just feet from our tent) and torrential rain. We ended up sleeping in the car - and giving away our tent because we couldn't pack it up to drive home. But we still had fun at HersheyPark :yay:

Lastly, (or firstly...) when I was a baby, my parents had a pop up at Cape May, NJ and my mom was struck by lightning running for shelter from a sudden storm. She survived and was okay - but wouldn't camp for a LONG time after that. :scared1:

We have a winner folks!!!!!!!! I cant see any "mis-hap stories" out sucking this one!!!!!

But as most of us say......the worst camping trips make the best memories....this happened when toostsmom was a baby, and she's STILL talking about it today!!!

Glad ya moms ok!!!!!

I've really only had one and it was really gross. We pulled into the SLC KOA back in 2004 with like 1/3 full black tank and would be there several days and decided to dump it. I filled up the tank to get a good flush and there were two sewer drains one at the front and one at the back and I hooked up to the one closest to my drain valve. Now this was with one that your sewer hose back then just fit into the sewer connection w/o a doughnout or positive connection and put my normal two concrete bricks on the hose to hold it in place and opened the black water dump valve and the sewer hose immediately popped out of the sewer connection and starting spewing that gross stuff everywhere. By the time I got the valved closed I probably dumped 5 to 10 gal of raw gross sewage on the ground. Used the fresh water hose to rinsed off things whet up to the CG office and told them what happened and they said that 'OH WE RE DID THE SEWER SYSTEM AND SOME OF THOSE FITTINGS HAVE BEEN BLANKED OFF AND ARE NOW NOT CONNECTED" ... I just walked away and let them deal with the aftermath and hooked up to the sewer connection that actually worked :confused3

Since we were up wind I just let them deal with the aftermath. :woohoo:
