The "I've Waited Forever to Go Solo" Mom's Leaving Everyone Behind Trip! Updt 3/11

Welcome back! :cheer2:

I hear Maine is just beautiful - can't wait to hear more about your trip and see some pics!

Also intrigued about the DH w/kids trip - they will have fun getting some quality time with their dad (the way they had you over spring break) I'm sure. :goodvibes

Looking forward to an update!

Hey folks! Nice to see you!

So we went to Maine June 21-28th. Each day started decent, some cloudy, but all beach-able. Then each day, except for one, at around 2pm or so the dark clouds, thunder and rain rolled in. It was kind of a drag. We still had fun though. Our house was right next to our best friends and that worked out so well. We had our own commune thing going.

Belle hadn't seen her pal since Christmas but it is one of those friendships that they just fall right back into.

This is the house our friends stayed in with the turret room and you can see ours to the right of it.

We ate lobster, learned the game of Cornhole, played a lot of cards, went to an amusement park, ate lots of ice cream, drank wine, drank too many White Russians another night and came thisclose, I mean THISCLOSE, to getting a Mickey head tattoo on my....well, my behind. I have debated a tattoo for a few years. My Grumpy has one (not a Mickey head) and our friend Julie has one. That leaves Chris and I. It is a running joke each year that we'll get one. We both do want one but are both a little hesitant/scared. So my MIL was up for a few nights and babysat and we all got to go out to eat. After a great Mexican dinner and a tasty Jolly Rancher Martini I was ready. We went to THREE tattoo shops and all were booked and too close to closing time to fit us in. The next day, being Jolly Rancher Martini-less, I wasn't feeling so gung ho to head back. So for now, I remain, ink-less. Someday.....

Now we are home and Grumpy is still on vacation till the 7th which is nice. We went and picked up his new vehicle today. He got a new Pathfinder and man it is quite sweet! The audio system is just really cool and I find myself feeling pretty lame in my old Honda Odyssey now.

So the twist. Well you see MIL came up Wednesday to Maine and brought my teenage niece with her. They were just going to stay overnight and leave Thursday but ended up staying till Saturday. She loved it, LOVED IT! Couldn't get over this house. She's come up in the past but this was our first year in this house and it was her cup of tea. So she called the owner and it turns out the week of August 23-30 was open. So she conferred with Grumpy and they have decided to split the costs and rent it. Grumpy will take the kids August 23-26 (Sat-Tues) since they start school on Wednesday. So while I am away in Disney he'll be taking the kids to Maine again. I'm happy for them. Maine is one of our most favorite places and usually we just get the one week there. To have a few more days at the end of the summer is a very sweet treat.

So once that was determined I told the kids I was going to Disney. They could have cared less. I think the reaction would be different if they didn't have a trip they were looking forward to as well!

So on the trip front my shirts from Disney Shopping arrived and the tank is especially cute! And the extra bonus reward dollars from the recent promo arrived on my Disney Visa. I checked and I have 231 reward dollars at the moment! SCORE! I can use that for my food!

I was telling Bashful tonight that I was staying at ASMu and got to feeling a little unsettled. I really wanted to stay at Pop but it was booked. With the 45 days coming up I should check and see if there were any cancellations. I just think if I could get in there I might like to be somewhere I am a little familiar with. You know? Hmmmm, need to look at that.

Got to run! Glad to be back and only 51 days to go! YAHOO!

What great pictures Allyson! It looks like you had a blast! I love the pic. of your DS buried in the sand, too cute! That is GREAT about the family getting a vacay too!:thumbsup2 I would definitely keep calling about POP.:goodvibes

What a great update Allyson, sounds like you all had a blast, maybe to much fun at times~hehe... Glad to hear you are still inkless, maybe it's a sign.. That is too funny tho..

That is great about the kids being able to go back for another trip, during your get away. I am sure you will have to bring back lots of souviners for them still tho! :)

sounds like you all had a great time despite the weather. love the pictures!

that is great that dh and the kiddos get to go back to Maine while you're gone.

enjoy the rest of the week with dh!

Looks like your trip to Maine was lots of fun! Were you near Old Orchard Beach? We went camping up there a couple of years ago and it was fun. The trip for the kids and Grumpy works out great! :thumbsup2

What a wonderfully relaxing vacation!!! Love all the pics -- makes me want to be at the beach right now!!! How nice that Grumpy will be able to go to the beach with the kids while you are away! Sorry about not getting your tattoo -- something to look forward to next summer!

Looks like you all had a great time! What a fun way to kick off the summer. Wow... a tattoo... you are much braver than me. I love the look of them but I am CHICKEN! Great that the kids and Grumpy get to come back to Maine while you're at Disney. Hope that will wash away any tiny bit of residual guilt you might feel (not that you should feel any but it will be nice to know they're having fun and not just thinking about what ride you're going on next ;) ) If you'll feel more comfortable at Pop, I say go ahead and investigate away! 50 something days... you are close!!

You are taking a cue from me, I am doing solo trip Aug 1-4 and my husband instead of staying home alone with the kids is going to the lake with his parents.

Loved your pictures of Maine. Went to Maine when I was 13 and I still remember vividly the fireflies, the only time I have ever seen them was that summer.

Looks like the Pop Preferred is available at the August room only code $81, but if I was was going to stay at a Value without kids I would want to stay at the All Star Music, I stayed there once on a solo trip and I loved it, how can I say this it had a much more grown up feel than the Pop.

Thank you! We are off to a lake with our friends tomorrow. My kids are excited to go tubing!

Yes! We were in Ocean Park which is a mile down from OOB. OP is a small very family oriented quiet little beach town. We just love it! We hit the pier our last day for some Pier Fries and Onion Rings!

Looks like a great trip. I love the beach. I'm sorry you didn't get your ink. I love my tattoo!
Be honest, how much did it hurt? I'm such a wimp.

Yes if not sooner!

No kidding, I go next month! It is always cool to be saying "Next Month!"

Another solo mom tripper! Is it your first solo trip? What are you planning? Thanks for the info on ASMu. I did make a decision today on the hotel situation.....

I have never been an ADR or Resort switcher but this trip I'm doing all of the above. :rotfl: I emailed my TA Jessica last night to see if she could get me Pop. I saw it open online but I had used a Pin Code so I didn't know if I'd still be able to get it. She wrote me today and moved me! I am excited I think. I just saw mkmommy's post about how ASMu has more an adult feel and I have read that before. I think for me I just started getting a little nervous and kind of felt being at a place that I was familiar with might be a better choice. A place where I already know what to expect, know what I mean? I know where things are, I know I like the resort and I know I was happy with the bus service last time. So maybe on a future trip I'll try one of the All Stars but I am happy to be over in Pop. We requested an upper floor/quiet room so let's see what we get. Last time (Dec 2006) we were in a 70's building overlooking the unfinished section, top floor, near the Mickey phone and it was great and VERY quiet. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a repeat performance!

I am emailing with a Tour Guide Mike fellow member and setting up a time to meet her at Epcot on that Monday morning. We'll do a ride together or grab a snack or something. I think it will be fun!

Can I start packing yet?:rolleyes1

Sorry for the short installment, it is late and I need my beauty rest. Actually I want to go read a little of my book before I hit the hay. I just started 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. Any fans out there?

Next up, the old do I tell my Florida pal I'm in the area dilemma?

Allyson:surfweb:

I finished it a couple of weeks ago. Good - but a tough read. :sad1: I decided I needed a break from her books for a while! I just finished Wicked - that was good!

I have read a couple of Jodi Piccoult's books: Vanishing Acts and My Sister's Keeper. They always suck me in and I can't put them down until they are finished. Is 19 Minutes just as good?

Just as good - IMO! :)
