**Our December of Dreams!! Honeymoon at the Wilderness Lodge TR FINISHED**

I'm here!

Yay! Thanks for reading along!!!

I'm still here too! Work sometimes gets the best of me though, but I'm following along! :goodvibes

No prob!! I'm just glad I still have people reading...despite taking half a year to write this thing!! :rotfl:

I'm still here too! Can't wait to read more, but sad that it's almost over!

And I may actually be coming to your neck of the woods this weekend! There's a concert at the Columbia Co. Ampitheater in Evans.

YAY more readers. I'm sad to end it too, prob why I'm dragging it out.

And very cool about the concert, the ampitheater is way cool, I haven't been to a show there yet but it backs up to the new library and I go there all the time. And Evans is really my neck of the woods, I grew up there, and my parents house is actually right down from the ampitheater! Have a great time!

Monday December 17th

It was a super sad morning, getting up and showering and getting ready for the last time in our beautiful Wilderness Lodge room. I was getting so depressed, realizing our trip was almost over, and we'd never have another trip like this. It was a huge spurge for us to stay at WL, and I knew we wouldn't be back for a loooong time. DH was trying to cheer me up though, with thoughts of ending our trip in St. Augustine, and he was just excited about breakfast.

Now, we are not normally big breakfast eaters. But on vacations/trips occasionally we will. On DH's first Disney trip the previous May, we ate at Trail's End twice. Once for dinner, and then for breakfast before leaving the last day. He LOVED it. They have the standard breakfast items...waffles, grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. And they have this breakfast pizza that he went nuts over. So, when making our ADRs I decided it just wouldn't be right if we didn't end our trip there. We also paid out of pocket for this meal, since it was a pretty cheap table service meal.

So we got all of our stuff together and called bell services to come get it. :sad1: I hated walking out of that room!! Dh had run down to pull the car up so we wouldn't have to wait so long. We had decided to just drive over to Ft. Wilderness since it would be quicker that way, and we could get on to St. Augustine that much faster.

We loaded up the car, and said goodbye to our beloved WL. It will always have a special place in our heart, and we will visit it for years to come. We had just spent one of the best weeks of our lives there and had the best honeymoon we could ever imagined. As we drove under the big arch sign, I had tears in my eyes. I hate leaving!!!

As we drove towards Ft. Wilderness, it hit me that we hadn't gotten a checkout envelope on our door that morning. I knew we usually had in the past, but we had already paid everything in full, and never charged anything to the room so I wasn't sure. I freaked out a bit, and then called the hotel to check. We were good, apparently in that case you don't need the paperwork? I dunno. On to Ft. Wilderness!!!!

We pulled in the lot and then went over to the bus stop to wait on a bus to take us to the Settlement and Pioneer Hall. As we waited it brought back memories of our first Disney trip together in May. We stayed at Ft. Wilderness for a long weekend over Mother's Day w/my parents, it was DH's first trip, so of course we had alot of memories waiting on busses there. We didn't wait long, and were on our way! It was pretty early, about 8:15 or so and there weren't many people out, and we were the only people on the bus. When we got to Trail's End there were just a few other people there. It was SO good, we both ate our fill and didn't plan on eating again until later that afternoon. DH had his fill of breakfast pizza and Mickey waffles, and I stuck to my eggs, bacon, and a waffle or two, and fruit. yuuuummy. We took care of our last meal in Disney, and then headed back out to the bus to take us back to the car.

It was too short of a drive off of Disney property, and as always that "See you soon" sign broke my heart. Very bittersweet.

We easily found out way back to the interstate and headed towards St. Augustine...not hard since that is the same way home. I made it through downtown Orlando and the other side of the city before I started getting sleepy. Early morning+week at Disney+riding in cars just makes me sleepy=I was out for most of the trip. So no pictures! DH woke me up about 30 minutes or so before we got into St. Augustine so he could help me find it. My mom had helped me out and made us a reservation at a bed and breakfast. I didn't make a reservation before we left, we knew we could get one once we got there, and would have a better idea of how much money we should spend. I had called her and asked her to give me some ideas, directions, etc...so she gave us the name of a place and the directions how to get there.

St. Augustine is a bit frustrating to drive around in, lots of one-way streets and narrow streets. Its beautiful but a pain sometimes. We didn't have too hard of a time finding it...http://the Agustin Inn...

beautiful!

It was so pretty!! We pulled in the 30 minute parking and went to the porch, and had to ring this bell for someone to let us in. We checked in, and found out that my parents had paid for our night already!!! :goodvibes SO sweet. They told us our room wasn't ready, it would be about an hour or so. They gave us a key, they keep the front door locked all the time, and told us where to park, about 2 blocks away. We decided to go park, and just walk around some until the room was ready. So we FINALLY found the parking lot for the inn...we kept passing/missing it, and those dang one way streets, we'd have to go back around again. Hardly any of the inns have connected parking b/c of the way its set up, so they have designated parking lots, if that makes sense.

The one touristy thing we KNEW we wanted to do was the Red Trolley tours. I've done it a few times before, but since DH had never been here before, and is way into history and stuff, I knew he'd like it. The little building where they sold tickets were was not too far away, so we just walked and I showed DH some cool places we'd been, and we went in a few shops along the way. We bought our tickets, which was good for 2 days. We had to wear a red trolley sticker on our clothes, and then we could get on/off the trolley at any of the stops around the city, theres prob at least 20 of them. Went in some more shops, including one of my FAVORITES, BathJunkie. I had discovered this on a trip a few years earlier w/some girlfriends, and LOVE it. Basically they sell all kinds of bath/body stuff, but you pick the scent. They have a whole wall full of oils, and you can mix them and customize your own. SO cool. I had bought this bath stuff before, it comes in a squirt bottle and you can either spray it in the bathtub to make it smell, or spray on yourself after a shower/bath, and it makes you smell good and your skin all soft. So I decided to get that, and then they had this "menu" of some of their new scents for the holidays. So I got some kind of peppermint scent, I forget exactly what it was. So cool though. I also got the same scent in a body spray. LOVE that store.

By then it was time we could get our room, so we went back to the car to get our stuff. I had put stuff to stay overnight in just one bag so we wouldnt have to carry ALL our suitcases. We also had some bottles of water/snacks to keep in the room, as well as our pillows. We're those weirdos that take our own pillows everywhere.

We get back, and she gave us another key to get in our room. And tells us we have the best room in the house. whaaaat? Yeah...that picture of the inn, that porch upstairs was OUR PORCH. We had it all to ourselves. She took us up to show us in, and it was BEAUTIFUL!

This is the picture from the website...

Next up-wandering around St. Augustine!!!

I totally know where your coming from with the last day sadness. I always manage to get a little weepy on the last day even when I know I'm coming back again soon. When we were on our honeymoon at Disney, leaving that time was the worst.

Wow! Your room in St. Augustine looks just like the internet photo! How often does that happen??? ;) That was really nice of your mom to arrange the wine and strawberries. Wish I had some of that in front of me now! :goodvibes

Hi there Hillary - coming over from the peep's thread. Just read your entire TR, what a wonderful time you guys had in WDW. I too get very sad my last day. I remember the last time we were there which was in 2004 (that in itself is sad) I had sunglasses on when we were checking out and I was literally crying at check out, good thing for sunglasses or I think the CM would have thought something was wrong with me. Anyway love your TR.

I have always wanted to stay in a B&B, how romantic! Can't wait to see more of St. Augustine!

**********************
So I'm working on finishing up the next installment, just waiting on pictures fo finish uploading!! We leave on Friday for 10 days to Destin YAY, so I want to get finished before we leave. I should have the TR done, maybe not all my final thoughts and stuff. But look for it later today!!!

Monday December 17th, Part 2

When I left off, we had checked into our BEAUTIFUL room, and were heading out to do some exploring in St. Augustine. The main thing I really wanted to do was ride the trolley around town, because DH is so into history and stuff, I knew he would love it. Plus we could get off at any of the stops and look around more, then get back on a train.

I must mention it was COLD this day. I mean seriously cold, and SO windy. Esp up around the front of the city where the water was. brrr.

We walked a few blocks to Fort Matanzas, which was the fort built to protect the city from Spanish and then later, British invaders. It's also on the waterfront, so of course it was freezing.

looking back towards the city..

(that yellow building across the street is where we ate dinner later that night)

We walked around for awhile, DH wanted to read a bunch of the plaques and stuff, and then we saw a trolley coming to the stop so we decided to hop on. We rode for a few hours, hearing all of the history and seeing all the architecture in the city. I love local history, and even though I've done this tour many times, I always love it. DH loved it as well. We got off at a few of the free museums that were included in our tour, but some of the bigger ones we would have loved to do cost a good bit of money, and we had just spent a week at Disney!!

St. Augustine really is beautiful and so full of history, I reccomend if you ever get the chance to go, DO IT!

I took a bunch of pictures, so here's some of those...

one of the stops was the Ripley's museum. DH has never been to one and we really wanted to go but just didn't have time. We are going next week though while we are in Destin!!

The last stop on the tour was at the Old Florida Museum, which had a general like store, and then an outside area which had some old settlement house replicas and stuff. It was really cool, but there was a big group of kids on a school trip so we didn't stay long.

DisneyHoneymoonDecember2007307.jpg

We ended up having to wait for about 20 minutes for the next trolley, and were getting HUNGRY by then. It was prob about 5 pm, and we hadn't really eaten since breakfast. We sat and talked for awhile, we were both sad our trip was coming to an end, but we were really to that point of exhaustion we were ready to be HOME. We talked to both our parents on the phone while we waited, and debated on what to do that night. We talked about going back and getting cleaned up and going out or something, but seriously, we were both SO tired, we really weren't in the mood. We decided we'd find something quick and nearby the B&B and call it an early night.

After the trolley finally came there was about 30 more minutes left of the tour, and it drove around a few more places and giving more history, though it didn't stop at these places. We got back off the train where we started, at the fort. Right across the street was a mexican restaurant, and DH was SOLD. That is his favorite, and we hadn't had it in awhile. Some pictures...

Very cool restaurant..

I don't remember what we had, but it was yum. After we ate and were full, we were MORE tired so decided to head back to the room and RELAX for the rest of the night.

back home...

DisneyHoneymoonDecember2007323.jpg

It was only about 6 pm, way early for us, but looking back, that night was probably my favorite out of the WHOLE honeymoon. We had so many great nights, but just hanging out, relaxing, with nowhere to go, nothing to worry about, no school, work, everyday stress, etc...it was just amazing. We just laid around for awhile, watched a marathon of "Little People Big World" (one of our favorite shows!!), and hung out. As it got darker we went and sat out on the porch and watched all the people out and about, and we could even kinda hear the music coming from a bar and grill down the street. It was just so relaxing, and seriously the most perfect way to end our trip.

I finished up the rest of my strawberries, seriously the best chocolate covered strawberries I've ever had.

DisneyHoneymoonDecember2007325.jpg

And drank my wine w/them! We also took some time to enjoy the jacuzzi and just savored every moment of our last night of vacation. I miss that night so much, we still talk about it and how great it was. Looking back now, after 7 months, (it took me 7 months to finish this TR??!!!! :scared1: ) living our busy life, me at my internship all day and class every night, and him working full time in a crazy job, only really seeing each other on the weekends, and just running from place to place...its nice to think back to that time and how nice and peaceful it was. We got to bed fairly early, ready to get home the next day.

We got up early and got our stuff together, and since we were in that suite, we got breakfast in bed...I finally took a picture of our food..

DisneyHoneymoonDecember2007326.jpg

SO GOOD!

We decided to drive out to St. Augustine beach before we left. I had been before and we drove on the beach, but we couldn't find where to get down there, so we just drove around and stuff for a little while before leaving.

on the bridge over to the beach...

DisneyHoneymoonDecember2007318.jpg

DisneyHoneymoonDecember2007322.jpg

Then we stopped at the outlets in St. Augustine on the way home. I HAD to visit the Disney outlet! Didn't get as lucky as I have in the past though, but we did find a few little Christmas presents for my cousins, and this really cute WDW pillow for our couch in our office. Then we went by Camping World and found my parent's Christmas present. Then we were ready to head out. It was a looong ride home, we still had about 6-7 hours to drive, and I think I slept a good bit. We were so happy to be home though. We went and got my cat...she had been staying at my parent's still, and came home to our new home together and our new life.

NEXT UP: Final thoughts and wrap up!

Great pictures! I haven't been to St. Augustine before, but it looks beautiful. Keep it coming! :goodvibes

If you ever have a chance you should go!! I can't say enough great things about how beautiful and fun it is!!! Thanks for reading!!

********************************

Just wanted to post real quick, since we are LEAVING at 4 am! in the morning for Destin. I'm so excited, we are going for 9 whole days, won't be back until next Sunday!!

Again, thanks everyone for reading along!!! I'm so sad to see this thing come to an end, but at least I'm FINALLY done, I didn't plan on it taking me this long!!!

When I get back I will finish it up w/all my final thoughts and stuff!!

See ya soon!

Final update and thoughts...

I'm finally back!! I told myself this weekend that I MUST finish this TR up soon!!! Its been over 8 months! Even though the trip itself is done, just wanted to wrap things up!!! So here we go.

1. Disney Dining Plan. For our honeymoon, we really enjoyed it. We got to try quite a few restaurants I had never been to throughout the many trips I'd taken as a child, and we probably never would have gone to these places. We had the luxury of ordering whatever we wanted, and having ALOT of food. And I think the nicest thing about it was not having to worry about how much money we were spending along the way, just swiped our room card and were done, just very convenient.

BUT, I really don't think we'd ever do it again, unless we wind up doing free dining or something, although that's my least favorite time of year to go (too hot!), so I kinda doubt it. It was just WAY too much food for us. And I hate seeing so much food go to waste. We never typically order appetizers/desserts, and while it was really nice for this trip, just not our thing. And we have both commented on how we hated feeling so full all day long, walking around the parks. We for the most part go go go all day, and we just didn't enjoy feeling so full and bloated after all that food!
Not to mention, I just really don't like having to follow a schedule. Again, it was nice for this trip to have nicer meals planned, but typically, we are much more spontaneous and really by the end of the trip having to follow some sort of an itinerary got old, and we did kinda stop and just go w/it. We'd much more prefer to just eat when we're hungry, wherever we wind up. Maybe have one or two planned meals at a few places we really enjoy, but for the most part just enjoy DISNEY, not worry about all of our meals.

Again, I think the DDP is a fantastic thing, and maybe when we have children and go it might make more sense for us, maybe not. I totally see how some people love it and will always use it. But for us, we don't go to Disney just to eat, so I really don't see us using this again. This leads me to...

2. Favorite restaurants. Our top three would probably have to be Narcoosee's, Crystal Palace, and Kona. Narcoosee's is just beautiful, and SO romantic, definitely our most favorite. It was just an amazing experience, and our food was wooonderful. Of course being on the DDP really paid off here, we could order the most expensive things and really go all out. Was a big out of our comfort zone but just wonderful. LOVED it, and have talked about going back on a future trip. We'll see.

Kona is a close second I think. The food was just great. Despite really not liking my chicken, the appetizers and desserts made it worth it. I know had I ordered something else I'd have liked it. This type of food is right up my alley and since I love the Poly its def. at the top of my list now!!

We also loved Crystal Palace. Because our tastes are so different, buffets are a good choice for us b/c we can both find alot we like. DH is very much into very american, plain food (pizza, chicken nuggets, potatoes, bread, desserts...CARBS!) so this was good for him, and I loved all the salads and fresh shrimp. The atmosphere is great, and the restaurant is just beautiful. We were stuffed afterwards, but it was SO good we couldn't help it.

Other favorites were Trail's End and Coral Reef. Again, buffets are good, and DH is obsessed w/the breakfast buffet at Trail's End. And we love Ft. Wilderness so it's a must do. Coral Reef was also very good, and the atmosphere was great, but I was not a fan of the crowdedness in there. The kids climbing all over our table was not so fun. Still great though, and I wouldn't mind going back one day.

Pinnochio's is hands down our fave for counter service. I had never been before and we both loved it. I liked the diff options from typical CS food and its just a cute place.

The only questionable place we went to was Ohana. And I really think it might have been just us, or an off night b/c people LOVE this place. Maybe we were just sick of all the heavy food...this was the end of the week and we were SO full already. And really the only things that weren't good to us were the skewer meats. So I'm optimistic about it. We're actually planning on maybe going back with my parents in October to try it again, so we'll see how that goes.

3. Wilderness Lodge. LOVE it. It very well may be my favorite resort now. So far I've stayed at Pop, All Star Sports, Ft. Wilderness, Caribbean Beach, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boardwalk, and the Polynesian. The Poly holds a close second, and there are things I love about the others as well, but I just fell in love w/WL. It was so beautiful, and PERFECT for Christmas time. I love the whole everything under one roof feel, and will miss that in the future not staying there. The pool was fabulous, our room was beautiful, we loved going to Roaring Forks for hot chocolate and a swim at night. Its just beautiful and will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on our honeymoon.

4. A Disney honeymoon??
We got this question more than once before we left, many people wonder about the idea and picture a honeymoon as going somewhere tropical, overseas, whatever. oh well I say. I have been a Disney nut since childhood, and we did toss around the idea of a cruise, all inclusive resort somewhere...but we ended up going right back to the Disney idea. We love the beach, and we go at least once every summer, but for December we knew we wouldn't love it, and we really didn't want to go out of the country. We also get bored just laying around for too long, and knew Disney was the best choice for us. And it WAS. I loved every second of it, and at least once a week I tell DH how much I miss it. It was w/out a doubt one of the best weeks of our lives, and the perfect place for us to spend our honeymoon.

I think I mentioned we didn't wear the ears (they annoy me and I really didnt want THAT much attention), but we did wear the Just Married buttons. TOTALLY reccomend this for honeymooners. We got congratulations left and right, from castmembers and other visitors alike, and quite a few free desserts, drinks, and pixie dust. Just wonderful, and just the right amount of attention for us.

5. Taking it easy...I know this is harder for families, first time visitors, and thsoe who are trying to fit it all in in a short amount of time. But what really made our trip was just taking it easy(er) than we normally would. Instead of going going going from morning till night, we took breaks, relaxed, and tried to have the most laid back Disney trip we could. I loved those moments sitting on the Poly beach watching Wishes, swimming in the WL pool/hottub late at night, sitting on our balcony, mid day naps, just soaking that Disney atmosphere up at a more relaxed pace. It was so much fun and kept us from being completely worn out. I have been to Disney quite a few times, we had annual passes for 3 years while I was growing up, and I still love it...but it also helps me appreciate not rushing so much, and enjoying the lesser known aspects of Disney. DH enjoyed this as well, even though this was just his second trip, he is very laid back and would have hating going all day, every day.

Future trips??

This is the exciting part!! As you can probably see by my tickers, we have not one but TWO trips coming up this year! And I can't wait! The first will be October 2-6. It is my mom's bday, and she told us that was what she wanted to do, go to Disney, stay at Ft. Wilderness in their camper, and just enjoy the campground and stuff, w/out going to the parks. We DID decide to do MNSSHP Sunday the 5th (I ordered tickets tonight!), but that is all. DH and I will be leaving Thursday afternoon, driving all night and getting there LATE that night, and then staying until Monday. So its just a short trip, but we are so excited. I can't wait to see all the decorations at the camground, and we are all taking our bikes so we will have a blast doing that, swimming, checking out the hotels, DTD, and of course the Halloween party!!! I have been wanting to go for YEARS, and finally have a chance!!

The second trip will be our first anniversary trip in December, of course. It is my absolute favorite time to go, and we just can't stay away (ok so maybe its more me, but I convinced DH we HAD to!) Our anniversary is actually December 8th but my best friend's wedding is the 12th so we are somehow going to manage to leave EARLY the next morning. :lmao: We are renting points and staying in a studio at Old Key West, December 13-19th. Well actually we are staying at Pop the 13th, bc we didn't want to pay such a high price for weekend points at OKW. This will also be more of a relaxing trip, as we are only planning 3 park days. We have 2 day tickets left over from the honeymoon, and then are planning on going to the Christmas party one night. So we will spend one day at Epcot, since we didn't get to do as much there as planned, and then a split day at MK/HS, and then the Christmas party one afternoon/night. No AK. It's just not our favorite, we don't do much there and would rather spend time at the other 3 parks. We will also be taking our bikes, and just enjoying the resort and doing more non-park things. VERY excited for this!! Especially during the holidays, there is just so much to do that we still weren't able to do last year!

And there is also a planned trip for next June to take my 2 little cousins back, staying at Ft. Wilderness again, so we have lots of Disney magic in our future!! Stay tuned!!

So I'm signing off...thanks so much to everyone who read along w/me, that really makes it so much fun to write for people when you know they're reading!! It was awesome being able to relieve some of our wonderful memories and share them with you all!!! I loved writing this first trip report, and am looking forward to writing even more!!

;)

I loved reading your report! Very sad its over. :sad1: We will be there overlapping days on both your upcoming trips, so who knows....maybe we will see you guys at some point. I hope you'll be doing another report soon. :goodvibes

How do you rent points? Can anyone rent points. Is it cheaper? I read your whole TR this morning. It made me reminisse of my honeymoon 11 years ago.:lovestruc No we didn't do Disney but you made me think of how bad we hated to get back to the real world of daily responsibilities.:sad2: Oh how I thought of our little moments of relaxing and enjoying our time together.:lovestruc We just went to Charleston (SC) Not far from our home. We go every year for our Anniversary. Next year we plan to Celebrate our Ann. and our sons 10th birthday later in the year at DISNEY.:woohoo: In late Sept.09 My Son and I are planning it any way.:worship: I hope we are able to go. Thanks again for reminding me of the Honeymoon memories!

Wow, all in one day!! Thanks for reading!!!!! :goodvibes

Yes, anyone can rent points. Another poster on the Wedding/Honeymoon board had told me about it, and then I read alot about it for myself. You can go to the DVC boards here, to the rent/trade one. Read all the stickys first, just to REALLY understand how it works. People post how many points they have for rent, and how much they want for them, or you can post for a certain time you want them, where, etc. It's really easy to do. And YES! SO MUCH cheaper!! We are staying in a studio at OKW for LESS than what it would have been to stay at Pop, which was our first choice. Definitely look into it!!

Oh and I LOVE Charleston, we are only about 3-4 hours from there, and have been on trips there many times. My DH's family is from there as well so we visit his family there as well. Beautiful city. Great place for a honeymoon, and I'm glad you enjoyed reading my TR!:goodvibes

Hi, I am not sure if this is mentioned somewhere on your posts and I hate to sound lazy, but in the interest of time I was hoping this would be faster than reading everyones responses... can you tell me what type of room you booked for your honeymoon? We are looking to go there for ours and considered contemporary but if we stay there I want castle view and its far too expensive. WL looks nice but the room your pictures show is completely different than their site shows, yours is more modern and I like it. Again, sorry if this is already mentioned!
