Cheap movie rentals for Car Trips

Just thought I would share this tip I figured out...I'm excited about it:banana:
All our local grocery stores have converted from video/dvd rental counter to this program called the red box...it's an automated dvd rental that costs $1 for a one day rental (it's due the day after you rent it at 9pm)...The AMAZING thing is that they don't have to be returned at the place you got them...They can be returned absolutely anywhere there...you can find return sites by typing in the zip code on their web site... anyway... I'm just excited because we do a lot of car trips and have a dvd for the car and this is a cheap way to get new movies to watch and entertain the kids for our up coming car trips....I find it hard to keep the kids really busy when it's a movie they have watched a million times :) I just tried it out today getting a movie for the trip from Pitt. PA back to NY, and it worked great...I've seen ideas sort of similar to this in major airports but it was expensive and difficult to use...Hope this will help other family's traveling this summer...

I love the red box too.:thumbsup2 ::yes::
You can also put movies on hold from there website,so it won't be gone by the time you get to the store.

omg, I love redbox, we use them all the time! :cool1: I love it, because I don't need a 5 day rental like Blockbuster or Movie Gallery has. I rent a movie for today or tomorrow, and I don't want to pay $5 for it. Especially when the movie retails for $20 in most cases! I don't want to be locked into paying $20 a month for Blockbuster or Netflix online..because some movies I watch a lot, some movies I don't. Even on heavy watch months, I don't watch 20 movies a month. It's a GREAAT deal! :cool1:

our McDonalds have them and its great. DS works there so I reserve the movies we want on-line, he picks them up and then returns them for us the next day. I don't feel bad when we keep them a couple of days longer because its still cheaper than blockbuster! The only downside is the inventory is limited so you can watch them all pretty fast is you tend to rent often.

At our local staples they have these dvd's that you cant "Rent" it is a four day rental with no having to return them they in other words self destruct but they do not blow up you throw them away after that.

Even cheaper... FREE at the library! And at our library you can keep them for 3 weeks!

http://www.insideredbox.com/codes/

awesome website that lists all the available codes and where they work etc.. you can even keep track of which codes you have used with which credit card on their site by registering (free).

Just remember with these codes that they can only be used once with each cc you have. So the code can be used repeatedly just not with the same cc.:thumbsup2

I agree! We've been doing this for a few months now. Our library belongs to PrairieCat. I can search online and place a DVD on hold. If we don't stock it, they will find it and send it to our library. We're in the Chicago suburbs and several of the movies have come from as far away as Iowa!

We also have "Red Box" but I haven't tried it yet. Do you get a receipt when you return it?

No receipt given at the machine... But when you rent it you can put in your email for them to send one to you.

That's nice that your library let's you keep your movies for 3 weeks...we can only keep ours for 7 days and there have been many road trips as kids that we didn't have the option of taking videos from the library because we would be past that 1 week mark!

Yeah, pretty cool. Now, if it's a 'newer' release it's only a few days, but the kids can always manage to find something that's 'older'. DH just got a bunch of old war movies  - glad I don't have to watch those on a long trip!!
