Pop: Why choose a preferred room?

We don't mind walking to the main building & we don't mind not having a pool or lake view (**as long as we are not facing the parking lot).

Is that the only reason why people get preferred rooms? I am wondering if it's not worth the extra money for us.

We do want a king bed, but I've been told you can't reserve them for an extra charge at the Values. we definately do not want to face the parking lot though (unless thats our only choice, we've never seen Pop, so I don't know the set up...

Any suggestions on if we need a preferred view?

Really its about just being close to the main pool, gift shop and food court as well as pretty close to the bus stop. If you like to refill your mug often its nice. I also like the theming of the preferred buildings at Pop (the icons outside that is, inside they are the same). You won't necessarly be looking at a parking lot in a non preferred room. Preferred at Pop is about location only. Nothing to do with views or room interior designs/amenities/size.

I have to say, at Pop with its circular design, nothing is all that far from the main area. The value where I really think paying for preferred pays off is Music. Its a straight design, so if you are in Country Fair you are a hike from the main area with only one way in and out to the main area.

I believe any area of Pop has King rooms and you can request that whether you are preferred or not. If you are a couple. If you have kids, even one under three they won't put you in a King. Something about firecodes.

You're very welcome! The 50's, 60's and 70's all have some preferred rooms. I think there is a map on allearsnet that will show you the layout of the resort and which sections of those buildings are preferred. Bascially the rooms nearest the pools would be preferred.


Here is a link for the resort map. Bascially if you look at those T shaped buildings in those three sections, I am pretty sure the preferred rooms are the ones that are facing the pool areas.

For my upcoming trip this August, I made sure I told them as close to Classic Hall as possible.

It is worth it because we like going back and forth to Classic Hall to refill the mugs and like to hang out at the pool at night and not have to walk far to go to our room.

However, some people don't like being close to the pool (like we do) because it does get noisy and the pool is open very late. The noise doesen't bother us, in fact, I like to hear all the fun going on. So it really depends. If you are a lite sleeper, stay away from the 60s (pool view) section.

There are other parts of Pop Century that are very quiet. Also, if you don't mind walking, then definitely don't pay for preferred. You can get the (non-parking lot view) without paying extra.

Well, yeah. Even with rooms designated "preferred", some HAVE to be the furthest away from everything. It happens.

No room at Pop Century is more than 750 feet from the center of Classic Hall (allowing, of course, for the vagaries of different floors, and getting to and from the elevator). That means many rooms in the 70s, 80s and 90s are closer to the buses and Everything Pop - the store part, anyway - than some preferred rooms.

And, honestly, a couple of years ago my room in the 80s faced a parking lot - and it was amazingly quiet. I was on the third floor; if you're on the first, landscaping does a pretty good job of blocking the view. Last year, I was in building 6, sort of facing the lake... but right over where Pop keeps - and uses - some equipment. The parking lot view was quieter!

Thanks, but I can't take the credit for this one. I took it off the famous John Lennon quote but tweaked it.

His quote is: Life is what your doing while your busy making plans.

I just did my own Disney version of it. I agree though, it totally applies to me and I think a lot of people on the Dis. We talk about our Disney vacations all year and then when we get back get busy planning our next.

Thanks, so I guess that implies I don't have any.

Why do some people go out of there way to be nasty, when it doesen't cost anything to be nice and it actually can make the other person feel good.

Sigh... there are eleven posts in this thread, but 73 views so far. Do YOU know how many of those, or future, viewers never considered the possibililty that there is at least one room in a designated 'preferred' building that has to be the furthest away from everything? I don't, but I would expect there to be at least one - who has or will now take that into consideration before spending an additional $10+ per night for such a room. But then, what do I know?

And conversely I would like to ask - why do some people go out of their way to be overly-sensitive and, in this case, consider a reasonable* statement of fact to be a personally-directed flame?

Sigh also.

I didn't go out of my way, it is just how I preceived it. Why do people call other people overly-sensitive because they disagree with their actions or take what they said as an insult.

It might be your opinion that I am overly sensitive, but having never met me, that is a judgment based only because I questioned your replies or disagreed with the way you responded to me.

I don't want to overtake this thread with this silliness, so I see your point and will agree to disagree.

We had the preferred rooms once and didn't find them any better than the standard. We don't think the walk is too bad so we just opt for the standard rooms now and save a little bit.

We stayed at POP and paid preferred because every night when we get back to the hotel we go to the room and grab out refillable cups and go back to the food court to fill them up. So I want the closest room I can get.
Our room was probably one of the closest rooms to the food court that you can get in the 50's section. Very much worth it.

I guess if you don't mind the walk it would not be worth it to pay preferred, but after a very long day of walking in the parks I want to be close!!

In my previous 4 stays at POP, I have always gotten a standard room. And been very happy with those rooms. And I have to say, some of them were about as far out as you can be and still be on POP property. I'm going again, in Sept, and have paid for a preferred room this time. Why? Well, my ds is bringing his step-daughter and a friend over to WDW for NoJ, and they, (the two girls) will be staying at POP. Now, my ds told me, when he found out I would be staying at POP as well, that he was glad I would be there in case there were any emergencies. He and my ddil will be staying off-site at a Radisson. My step-gd is almost 20, so she's not a child. But, I figured that I didn't want to take the chance of being in the same group of rooms as the girls, so booked a preferred room. I know my ds won't pay the extra for a preferred room.
Now, I'll probably end up with one of the rooms in 60's, in bldg 4, way over to the side, closer to bldg 3 in 50's. It will be one of the furthest out there rooms, and my step-gd will end up in bldg 3, across the grass from me. I just know it.

We were in the 80's building facing the parking lot, third floor and LOVED it!!!

I don't think we could have been much closer to the bus stop. We just walked across the parking lot (there is a sidewalk too).

We also had a view of fireworks every night.

We would not have been happy in a preferred room.

We never used the main pool because it was often closed and always too loud and crowded. We loved the computer pool, we used it at least 7 times the week we were there.

I wouldn't pay the extra money, just request a non preferred building relatively close to whatever is most important to you.
