Blockbuster lost my movie...

Ugh, this may be a bit OT, but I consider it budget related. Last night I get a phone call from Blockbuster saying that I have a movie past due. No surprise, I haven't yet returned 101 Dalmatians. So I listen to the message to make sure that it was the only one due back since I had a few titles out. Well it says 101 Dalmatians and Indiana Jones.

Hmmm, that's strange, I returned that one last week. So I get in the car and drive to Blockbuster(this is a separate trip since if I hadn't heard IJ on the message I would have dropped the movie off before class tonight).

Well sure enough the guy behind the counter says I still had IJ out. I said no, I returned it. So he goes to look on the shelf. Nope not there. :headache:

So I talk to the manager, she asks me to call home and make sure it isn't there, check the car, etc. I know why they do this. I used to work for BB. It is just frustrating that I had to waste a car trip because some guy couldn't handle scanning a movie after I handed it across the counter.

We don't have this movie. I personally handed it across the counter over a week ago. Now it is MIA, and they think I have it here at home

So this has wasted gas, my time, and later down the line I may actually get charged for this movie....none of which was in my budget.

This happened to us as well. We rented 2 movies, reutrned both movies the same night, slid them in the dropbox from outside store. Off we went, and we really went, we moved out of state. About a month after us being in a different state we get a letter from Blockbuster saying we owe for the movie. I called the store and the clerk must have thought I was lying to him, surely he thought I wanted to keep Jacka** 2! Yep, that's one I want for my collection. :sad2: Anyway, it took me calling corporate (California I think) to get them to remove the charge.

Now, I use Netflix! I LOVE it! I have never had a problem with them. I do not have to drive anywhere, when I see a movie coming out in theaters that I want to see, I add it to my queue and when it releases on DVD it comes to my mailbox! Genius! Best invention ever! One time in the last year and a half that we have had them, their system went down and so it took about 3 days for my next movie to come to me instead of the usual 1-2 day turn around. They notified me and gave me money back! Fabulous!

Reminds me of the time I got a phone call from Blockbuster about a movie I had returned, that they said I still had out. I drove to the store, walked over to the shelf, and found they movie. They said they must have re-shelved it and forgot to scan it. :confused3

We've used Netflix for quite some time now. We're very happy with them.:goodvibes

We had two movies out and DH returned both on the same day in the store. We were charged on our card for one of the movies! They said they did not get the movie!! We got our money back but only after going through a few people.

The reason I stopped renting from Blockbuster years ago...returned movies on the day they were due. Go back about a month later to check out some...they tell me that I turned in my last movies late. So I now owe late fees...NOT! Don't know what happened, but all I can think of is that they took their own sweet time scanning it in to the computer. So I have not used them since...and I am sure they think I still owe them money. They will never see it.

Been using Netflix for years. LOVE IT...will never go back to picking up a movie from a rental store.

I hate, hate, HATE Blockbuster and will NEVER rent from them again. My local Blockbuster seemed to always take their sweet time scanning the movies back in so I nearly always had late fees. Then they would call me up and harass me for said late fees, and get nasty when I told them that it was not only returned on time but several hours before they were due.

The thing that made me say 'no more' though was when we rented a couple of video game controllers from them. We returned them on time, but they some how magically disappeared, which we found this out when a police man showed up at our house!!! Apparently Blockbuster calls the cops when more expensive items are 'late.' They ended up having to pull the security tapes to confirm that we did indeed return the controllers. That was the end for me.

Wow. I can't believe they didn't even contact you first. That would make me really angry! I know we have returned movies on time before only to end up with late fees later.

I hate Blockbuster too!

We rented a Star Wars movie that originally came with a second disk of extra material. When I returned the movie, they called and said the second disk was missing. The disk was never in the box! I had to go up there and insist that there never was another disk. They finally let it go, but I was pretty mad that they were so unorganized. We are now Netflix users.

I have had this happen too. It happened several times at one particular store. It was a convenient location (right next to the church), so I kept going there, but I would write on my calendar when I returned them.

After I started doing this, I got a call one day that my movie was "late". I said, "no, I turned it in on such-and-such a date at such-and-such a time." He said no. I said, "OK. I will come in and we can look at the security tapes together." Of course, he was willing to "take my word for it" "this one time". :rotfl: But then, DH wanted to ban the store so I never went back so I wouldn't have to deal with this problem anymore. I haven't really had this problem at any other location.

But now I use Netflix like many others.

This is exactly the reason why I no longer patronize Blockbuster. I would do without before I give them one cent of business.

Won't use BB for this reason.

My best friend calls them BlockB*stard for this exact problem. How can you prove you returned it? It becomes like that really bad R. Kelly skit on SNL where you have to have 6 people witness you return it, a photo with you holding the video and your state issued photo id, and then sign an affidavit and file it with the state.

Don't give in!

See I had nothing but problems with Netflix. They never got my movies back and when they did they wouldn't send the next one out for days.

Now I use BB Online and I really like it. I think I am going to switch stores though. I used to work at the one I go to and they are so unorganized.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I greatly DISLIKE BB for all of the above reasons PP's have said
I haven't been in one is years-and I won't ever again.
When they are doing their sidewalk thing and trying to get new members I tell them exactly why I dislike them so much...
( in a nice polite way tho...)

Am I the only one who doesn't have issues with BB? :) If I tell them I returned something (store or online), they say thank-you (whether they find it or not). No charge to me.

I know each store is different though....

I like BB online with the in store exchange. Allows us to pick up kids flicks on-the-fly when they want them. Downside is my 2 year old peels off the BB labels and hides the Thomas DVDs so we won't return them. We've "bought" a lot of Thomas DVDs now. Maybe that's why BB is nicer to us. LOL

I agree with all the PPs AND this --

Unless your membership is in both names, only the actual member can phone them and discuss your BB 'rewards' issues. Its absolutley ridiculous!!

Its not like its healthcare and the HIPPA act! Its only movies and its beyond stupid that the members' spouse cannot access information or make changes to the membership.

We too, are done with BB!

I must be pretty lucky.

I haven't had a problem with BB yet but I only rent from them when I have a gift card to use.

I do get tired of them wanting to sign me up for BB online. If I wanted it, I'd have already signed up for it. Sheesh.

I don't see the issues in only the registered member having access. I had fraud on my account in the past. Someone took out movies claiming to be part of my household. Now, Anyone who has access to my account (including my wife) I need to add.

I use netflix. ( I think I lose 2 movies a year ,, they don't care,, but then I don't rent more than one a month...:rotfl2: yea its for convenience as I am grandfatherd into the 4 out at a time /low rate)

but IF I ever did use blockbuster.
I'd walk in, hold up the movie to the security camera while handing it over the counter & then get some kind of receipt showing I returend it..

too many people I have heard get snookered by them.

Our BB doesn't like to see me come in! I insist on a rec. stating that we have either returned or have a zero balance. I had one unlucky cashier tell me last month, that they don't do that - the lier.

I raised such a stink that I embar. myself:goodvibes

I pitched a fit, told her I was calling the police if she didn't scane the movies back into the system ( I had waited my time in line ) and give me a rec. She finally called her manager/super who wasn't at the store ----and it was all of a sudden - "Oh that's what you want" :confused3 DUH!!!

We had major issues with the next closest BB store a few years ago- I got a call that I owed almost $80 for movies that they said were never returned. I found one of them on the shelf. I told them that they could call the police now as I was calling my lawyer. I told the cashier that I was turning them in for trying to steal my money - starting with her, as well as harras.

I also told them that they could go over the tapes with me, as I knew exactly the date and time that the tapes were returned because I was on the way to the hospital to deliver one of my children. :thumbsup2

They decided to drop the charges.

Of course, I would not call the police- they have more important things to take care of- but the girl didn't know that. :rotfl2:

I still go to Blockbuster! I like the fact that they no longer have late charges as I never seem to return the movies on time.

Just yesterday, I rented a movie and they told me I owed $17.00 on my account as they were charging me the purchase price of a movie I didn't return. I told them I did return it, they checked the shelf and the copy wasn't there. The manager was very nice though. She let me rent another movie without paying the purchase fee for the "lost" movie. She told me just to check again when I got home. Oops....it was at home, I never returned it! I felt like an idiot for insisting I returned it when I didn't. I brought it back today, they reversed the fee and I apologized. The manager said not to worry about it, this happens all the time.

I know a lot of people who do have problems with BB, but thus far, I'm happy with them.
