Getting ready to make my November ressies. We have eaten at HW&V and Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic Dinner Package. (Not a fan of MM at all). Need to book another Fantasmic Package. What would you suggest? There are 4 of us DH, Me (DW) DS (8) and DS (3).

Thanks.

I've eaten at both and prefer Brown Derby by far. I ate there on my last trip for the first time and it was a welcome break in a hot, rainy day. Our food was fantastic, and we felt miles away from the park while we were in there. It also didn't have that crowded, noisy feeling that H&V has. Whenever I've eaten at H&V, it definitely still feels like your in the middle of an amusement park. Not relaxing at all.

I've never minded the food at H&V although I know many really hate it. For me it's falls as just okay. The pot roast is good, but nothing else really stood out one way or another.

If you don't want to spend as much time on your dinner, you may prefer H&V. We are always out of there fairly quickly when we go.

My wife and I really enjoy the Hollywood Brown Derby. Great service, great food, great theming, all of that. You can really get a feeling of "old Hollywood" in that restaurant. It's definitely worth the money.

What about with 2 young children?

We love the Brown Derby and try to eat there every trip. Kids are very welcome there. My youngest is 18 months and he's been there three times, although he did get a little tired during our meal...

Brown Derby is a great choice.

I notice my son's favorite (okay ONLY) meal...Grilled Cheese. That is why we try to eat at Flying Fish each time.

We have some grilled cheese fans in our crew too. In case you didn't know, they have grilled cheese at Jiko and the Plaza. Also, the chefs at WCC and Spoodles have been kind enough to make grilled cheese sandwiches for us even though they weren't on the menu.

I was wondering about the Hoop do Doo?

Sorry...we don't like either one of them, but we do like MM...see how everyone has different taste? Do you need to have the package at the time you are going? Perhaps eat somewhere on the Boardwalk?

OT- most TS places will make grilled cheese. I can even get McDonalds to make grilled cheese. It is really easy for the resturant to do.

Ooh good to know.

Kathy-

Unfortunately, we do need the package. It is Thanksgiving week.

Another vote for Brown Derby. I think two youngins will be fine there - we see families with young children all the time. We did the Fantasmic Package with Brown Derby and it worked out really well - good meal, good service! I cannot speak to HW&V, but if you have been there before you probably know whether you want to go back or not. If you are worried about BD - don't be! We have eaten there several times and had a great experience each time. One side note - my DW loves grapefruit and was not impressed with the famous Grapefruit Cake. However, she did love the Cobb! :thumbsup2

Stop the presses...have you taken the 3yo to Fantasmic before? It can be quite scary for the young ones. Our 5/6yo sat through it and liked it, but was absolutely rattled at times. I'd hate to see you use 2TS each and then not be able to actually stay for the show.

If you are not sure about the 3yo being OK for the show I'd either go back to H&V at 1TS or do Fantasmic when he's older.

The Brown Derby is the better meal but you are paying almost $50 a meal, nearly double the H&V which costs the same whether or not you do the Fantasmic thing. Granted the H&V is nothing spectacular but its the better deal for the Fantasmic package.

I also found that my young kids much appreciate buffets where they can dig in right away. Its especially good if they are a bit onery from a day in the park

WE just came back last month and the little one picked up his glow stick waved it in the air and said "Take that dragon..." So far we've been okay.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what exactly is the Fantasmic dinner package? I've heard so much about it, but I am not too clear on how it all works.

Any help would be appreciated!

The FDP needs to be reserved when making your dinning ressies. You ask for the FDP at either HW&V BD or Mama Melrose. They will give you a card for a separate entrace to the theater for Fantasmic that night only. You still need to arrive at least 30 min early. Generally people line up anywhere betw. 90-45 min without this private entrance.

There are no reserved specific seats, however there is a reserved section ...all the way to the right of the ampitheatre. Some do not like these seats, but I like being closer to the exit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I thought the FDP might be something like this, but I wasn't 100% sure. Do you know how much it would cost for four people (all adults by Disney's system) for dinner at the Brown Derby? :confused3

Thanks Again! :)
