I have not been camping in probably about 15 years! My son who is 8 went 2x already w/my husband and this will be my 6 year olds 1st time. We are going upstate NY - to Jellystone park!

Any tips?

We camp all the time, at least ten times a season (May to Oct). We are going to Laconia, NH. I plan on taking the kids to Squam Lake, Fun Spot, and Weirs Drive-In. We went to Plymouth, MA two weekends ago. I love camping. I am planning my meals right now. Can't forget the marshmallows!

We were going to go camping with the in-laws, but our weather forecast is SO cruddy that I think we are going to bag it. Highs in the 50's, lows in the low 40's, and an 80% chance of rain... yeah, sounds like sleeping-bag and tent weather to me! NOT! :sad2:

I am not very sad about this, as I HATE camping with a passion... I would rather have surgery with no anesthesia, thanks. For me, "roughing it" entails a motel with no internet access. :snooty: Some people hear the "call of the wild", I hear the "call of the flush toilet".

However, I was going to suck it up and take one for the team since DH and the kids love it so much, but now I don't have to. YAY for crappy Montana spring weather! :cheer2:

LOTS of bug spray! The black gnats are out in full force.. Nights are still getting pretty chilly - hopefully the weekend won't be quite as bad.. Get your gas and whatever other essentials you need before you reach "vacation areas" or you're really going to be suffering from sticker shock.. Bring indoor activities for the kids in case the bugs are too bad to stay outside or a stray shower comes through..

Hope you have fun! :thumbsup2

The weather is supposed to dry out and be nice for the weekend.:cool1: I agree with everything the previous poster said. Be prepared for the cold, the flies and bring snacks, etc. with you to save $$.

Wow, thats alot! I feel like there is so so much stuff you need to bring - should be fun though.

We love to camp, but can only go from Oct. thru April due to the heat. Have fun! Something really cool for your kids is a cap/hat clip light - very neat and hands free.

We love to camp too. We go nearly every weekend and at least for one full week during the summer. Our RV is parked so it makes it so much easier. We gave up pulling it around 3 years ago and I have never regretted it. It's like a home away from home.

Yes, having an RV must be so much easier. we will be sleeping in tents - which i don't mind - its just you need to pack cloths, food, snacks ,
towels etc etc etc..................

I feel your pain! Dang cold weather system! We'll be in the 60's with 40's for lows too if we go around the Big Timber area. We can handle 60's, we've been through worse, but we might end up going east to the less pretty areas just to get out but still be warmer.

Tips for what we bring - board games, books for bad weather (or a nice rest in the sun), we try to be green at home but when we're out it's all paper plates, disposable silverware, aluminum foil, the last thing I want to do out camping is dishes. Since a lot of the areas we go don't have water to drink or water you wouldn't want to drink, we bring water bottles and then the crystal light drink mixes etc.

We're heading to pigeon forge, tn around lunch tomorrow and hanging out until Monday. Gotta put those Dollywood season passes to work.

LOL!! :lmao: I'm not a fan either but wouldn't quite trade it for surgery. I'm going to attempt to learn to like it as DS is sooo excited about becoming a cub scout. I'm taking him on DD8's camping trip the following weekend. I just don't like packing up everything we'd normally use just to go do it outside w/the bugs. But maybe their joy will change my mind.

Have a great trip! I'd say pack a lot of snacks & drinks and do a tick check when you get back. Let us know how you liked it and what you did!

It is so stinkin' cold here. Highs in the mid 60's and lows in the mid 30's. Geez. It's like winter's never left. So no, we're not camping. Have fun at Jellystone! They have 'em everywhere and they're a lot of fun! My two kids loved it when we went to one by us 2 years ago. We keep meaning to go back- maybe this summer.

Have fun! :cool1:

If you are going to the Jellystone near Newburgh, we consider that downstate LOL! It's a great park with lots and lots to do.

We're camping in the Albany area this weekend, and then moving on Tuesday to a campground in Bainbridge, with an on-line group we have been camping with since 2000.

Looks like you're going to have a beautiful weekend if that's the Jellystone you are going to. Lots of sun with temps in the low 80's on Sunday.

I prepare as much food in advance as I can, so I can enjoy the camping too. Have a great time!

We leave tomorrow! We are camping at Cherokee lake in Morristown, TN. I can't wait!
We have a travel trailer. Every now and then for short overnight trips, we tent camp. It does tend to get cool at night in a tent. Take plenty of covers!:thumbsup2

There are several of us going and we have planned our menus ahead of time. I went to the grocery store yesterday and want to have as much as I can made before I leave tomorrow.
Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!

We are going to the one in Woodbridge? In the Catskills.

Everyone enjoy your trips as well - i did not "prepare" food - just went shopping and bought stuff to barbeque - we are bringing cereal, coldcuts, burgers, dogs, chicken - hoping to catch fish - lots of snacks - pasta, sauce and again more junk - drinks etc and all the topings of course!

We Are Setting The 5th Wheel Tonight And Staying Friday Thru Monday!
Treasure Lake, Pa

Us too. Going camping that is. We're leaving tomorrow evening after DH gets off work. We're going down to Disney, OK...from Kansas City area. This confused the kids the first time we went, they were so dissapointed when we got to a grassy field and said "we're here" and they both had a very confused look on their face and asked "this is Disney!!?" We made a point to tell them exactly where and what we were doing this time!!

Depending on where you are going in Upstate NY,bring sweatshirts, jackets and umbrellas - it has been miserably cold and rainy all week in Syracuse and snowing a little bit away from here.
