Questions about resort refillable mugs

I am planning on using our refillable resort mugs (the brand new ones I am going to buy at All Star Sports for my two girls, the one I have bidded on Ebay is for my in-laws if I win it) mostly at breakfast because that will be our OOP meal at the food court at Sports, and I was just wondering if anyone one else does this? My question is, do you take them back to your room after breakfast or go ahead and lug them around to the theme parks? Also, this is a serious question, has anyone ever taken them to another resort (I think this is a no-no I know) to have them filled up while they are eating at that resorts counter service spot. Just wondering about that one, and yes I am considering doing this too. Another question, does anyone out there think that Disney will ever have different mugs for each resort again or are the resorts going to continue with all the exact same ones in the future?

Regarding using recently purchased mugs at the food court, I fill it during breakfast. Then refill for bus ride to park. Rinse at park, attach to backpack strap. Upon return to resort fill, and drink will chilling in food court. Refill, return to room for night. Or something roughly to that effect. Having it with me means I am much more likely to get a refill that evening, instead of having to return to the room, then go back to the food court. Makes the cost much easier for me to justify. I find that people tend to not make the trip back at night if the mug is in their room.

Will Disney do separate mugs again? Hard to say. Probably slightly cheaper to stick with the single design and the current mug size means smaller refills, less waste than the older big ones (I believe). I think many people would like them to go back to different mugs from a memento standpoint. Will they? Unless the management decides to cut a few less corners (and realize that they may even sell more mugs by having the different designs) I can't see them doing it in the near future. Trends are definitely pointing towards getting things as uniform as possible.

Disney policy is that the mugs are for your resort hotel use only, and for the duration of your stay. So need to be purchased at your resort during your stay. I have no idea how they enforce this, so :confused3

Our family has actually never use them! I think I may have gotten one as a souvenir, but my DS doesn't drink soda. I don't like coke, or any of the other options so it's never made any sense to us!

You may be able to use your mugs at other All Star resorts- ask at your food court. I know you can use other All Star pools, so I wouldn't be surprised if you could use your mugs, there, too.

We stayed at POFQ, and could use our mugs at POFQ or POR food court (we also could go to either resorts pool) because they are sister resorts.

All Star resorts all except the same refill mug....

We measured our mugs with the old bigger types and our new ones that we purchased last week are about the same in the amount.....maybe more in the new ones..So we thought that the new ones were smaller......they arent...

Even though we had the cups from last September, we still bought our new cups.......they have the year on these.......so I am assuming that when the Milliion dreams year is over they will have to change to another design of the cup....

Ya, I suppose that after the year of a million dreams is over the design will change. I suppose I will lug them around to the parks with me in my tote or something. Thanks for the info.

I find it funny that you are bidding on a mug on Ebay and are posing a question about if it's OK to use it at another resort :confused3 Have you bid on a "white envelop" too?

We fill in the morning, drink, and then return the mugs to the room. I don't like carrying stuff into the parks.

If you are already carrying a backpack, you could take them with you and attach the empty ones with a caribiner to a strap, while you're in the parks, and then use when you return.

I was pretty sure that you were'nt supposed to take it to another resort just wondering if anyone else out there would admit to doing it. And I really have no clue what a white envelop is!

I'm pretty sure that Disney's policy is to only use the mug on the trip it was purchased for (AKA- don't bring it back on another trip- or buy a used one)

We do not haul our mugs around to the parks. I don't want to haul them plus all of the stuff that the outside of my backpack touches, I'm not sure I want my mug in contact with.

I think they will change the mug design after this year is over. I like this style much better than old ones and do hope they keep this shape.

I have never taken mine to another resort because I don't want to haul it but seriously see nothing wrong with it. I don't know what the rule is, but I'm not going to get agitated if you decide to carry yours. I don't think Disney's fortune is going to be made or broken on out of control soda drinking from refillable mugs.

Yes -- Resort refillable mugs can only be used during the trip they are purchased during. I don't think you''ll have much luck using the one you might get on Ebay. You'd have to purchase new ones on your next vacation for resort refill priviliges. The only mugs you can bring back w/ you on your next vacation are the water park refillable mugs. For a small fee, they will affix a new barcode to enable scanning priviliges the day you are in that water park.

Sometimes a seller on ebay will sell something that he is not supposed to sell (so the seller will put it in a white envelope and then sell the envelope--what is inside you get for free:rolleyes: ). Some of those plain white envelopes go for quite a few dollars. Resort mugs to be reused fall in that category.

This might be true for the last few years, but I have a mug from the CBR that was sold with something like "bring it back on your next trip". OK it was in the 90s but I was never told by a CM that I can't use it anymore ...

The mug is good for your stay, but I do believe that they are good at other resorts during the same stay in which you bought the mug.

For example, if you have a split stay, then that's the same vacation so I'm pretty sure that you can use the mug at both resorts. Or, if you bought the mug at Pop and for some reason you're having lunch at POR, then your mug should be OK there as you bought the mug during that particular trip.

However, if you take a second vacation (resort stay) later in the year or anytime in the future then you need to buy new mugs for that stay.

One more thing............Technically the OP did not buy the mugs at WDW so she's cheating the system. When you buy the mug at WDW you're paying for the refills with the mug. (I tried to bite my tongue, but it was bleeding too much.)

And about that breakfast drink, we keep the mugs in our room all day rather than carry them through the parks. I don't want to carry a mug all day.

I don't believe that's true. Disney would have to confirm, but I was always told they're only good at the resort you purchased them at. HOWEVER... in '05 we stayed at ASMo. We were in the Mighty Duck area, and after 1 day of hoofing it all the way to the ASMo's food court, we realized that just across the street (cutting our walk time to a food court by 3/4s), was another AS resort (I think it was ASMu). We had already purchased our mugs at ASMO, and DID use them at ASMu and never once did anyone tell us we had the wrong mug. Maybe b/c "an all star is an all star" --???

Ya, I think an all star is an all star and it does'nt matter then. Just like POR and POFQ. I don't think that we will take them to other resorts, that might be too much trouble. And are probably leaning on taking them back to the rooms after breakfast. We are buying two, my inlaws I hope will buy one, and they will get the one off of Ebay from me for a gift to take with us. There are several other auctions for these mugs on Ebay besides the one that I am winning so far. Some have two or three mugs listed. Does anyone know what tax is charged at the food courts at the all-stars?

When i stayed at SSR back in march, i had asked the manager at the food court and she said "you're REALLY not suppose to use other resort mugs for refill here". and did hint that it's very unlikely that they will stop you from using it... but you never know....:confused3

W have the same issue with the ones we bought from the WL several years ago...There was no rule then about not bringing it back...In fact, I remember it was the selling point that we could bring it back...People say that mugs they sell now have a disclaimer on it about only using it for the one stay but ours does not...We have brought them back a few times (since the design changed) and we have not been told we cannot use them...I think we were "grandfathered" if that is the right term to use.
