First I Graduated, then We ATE!! Food review with TONS O' PICS!! (COMPLETE 6/12!!)

:thumbsup2

Great review. I'm dying for Boma now that I saw your pictures. I loved this place in March and it will definately be on our list again next year. Keep up the great reviews and pictures.

Great reviews and pictures! We love Boma, too. It's one of our favorite restaurants at WDW, & we don't even like buffets all that much. :confused3 Breakfast at Boma is really good & definitely worth a try as well. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more!!!:thumbsup2

Comin' right up!!

Loving your reviews so far! :goodvibes

Thanks so much, and thanks for reading. :thumbsup2

great reports and glad you're venturing on to more than just burgers!:rotfl:

HaHa. It gets really delicious from here on out, because now we start with the Signatures! ;)

:thumbsup2

Thanks!! Yeah, I'm craving Boma, too. We'll definitely be going back on our next trip!

Thanks! Boma is the only Disney buffet we frequent (besides the occasional Cape May breakfast stop). It's just so yummy and always fresh. We did go for breakfast once, but it was Mother's Day and a MADhouse. We really need to try it again at a less crowded time.

Now if only I could convince DH to give BOMA a chance. He does not like buffets at all. We loved JIKO and our next trip is going to be all "New" places. I think BOMA would be a perfect fit.;)

I don't like buffets either, but I love Boma.

Today was the day for my mom to arrive, and for us to switch from SSR to OKW. We got up early, packed our stuff, and I called bell services to have them switch our bags to OKW. Gotta love Disney service!!

We strolled over to the Carriage House to get our bill divided (they wouldn't let us put Mike's KTTW card on his credit card and mine on mine, even though I *know* we've divided them before... oh well...), and we poked our heads into Artist's Palette. Packed. Full. We decided to take the boat to DTD and see what we could dig up.

Silly us, the boats don't run until about 11:30, and as it was only 10:45, we had a bit of a wait. Oh well. We watched the ducks and the golfers, and at about 11:15 a boat pulled up, piloted by our formerly ear-earning friend Frank. It was his first trip solo! Huzzah!! :thumbsup2

We checked the menu at Rainforest Cafe, then wandered toward Earl of Sandwich, but in the end we decided on Wolfgang Puck Express. I really like how they've redone the interior; it's all spacious and comfy.

I ordered the rigatoni bolognese, which came with a caesar salad...

58wpsalad.jpg

I'm not really a salad eater, but this was pretty good. I really enjoyed the croutons! I ate about half of it. Mike, of course, does not partake of the green stuff.

My rigatoni...

58wppasta.jpg

I forgot to take a pic until I'd already started eating, so it looks a bit messy. They used to offer this dish as linguine, and I actually preferred the linguine. It seemed to pair better with the sauce, which I *love*. Ground chicken, basil, garlic, tomatoes... it's fantastic. I only ate about half of this, and took the rest with me to eat later.

Mike got the pepperoni pizza...

58wppizza.jpg

He let me have a piece, and I gotta say... really good pizza!! Crispy crust, slightly sweet sauce, plenty of cheese, nicely spiced pepperoni... really excellent. We both enjoyed it a lot.

Oh, the reason he spared that one slice for me? We also ordered a side of mac and cheese...

58wpmacncheese.jpg

We added the parmesan on top. This was actually a bit of a disappointment, and I think that's at least partially my fault. I seem to remember this dish being oven-baked so that it came out all bubbly and hot and crispy on the top. Am I crazy? That's what we were both expecting (since that's what I'd described to Mike), and instead we got this rather ordinary bowl of mac and cheese. It tasted very plain, and we both actually preferred the mac and cheese on the kid's buffet at Boma!

Anyway. We both enjoyed WPE. It's still one of my favorite CS places in WDW, partially because it's kind of a hybrid TS since a server brings your food and everything's served on china. In a side note, those pocket sandwiches they have there look fantastic...

Next up, Yachtsman Steakhouse!!

I've decided to start splitting the lunch and dinner reviews since now we're going to be dealing with 3 appetizers, entrees and desserts. Yachtsman was the first meal with my mom, and also our first meal on the DxDDP. It being this trip, there were some hiccups...

When my mom arrived at OKW, we discovered she had a flat tire. We called AAA, and when the guy got there, he found that our spare was flat, too! Argh. The transportation gods have truly turned their backs on us... or have they? After ambling over to the HH to get a cab, one of the nice bellmen offered to drive us to the Yacht Club in a company car. Well woohoo! That beat a smelly ol' cab any day!!

We arrived at the Yachtsman a bit early for our ADR, but of course you always have to wait there, so we were lucky to snag a table in the Crew Cup Lounge. Mom and Mike ordered water, while I ordered some sort of hazelnut martini thingie. It's on the universal menu now found in nearly all WDW bars...

58ysdrinknme.jpg

My drinkie and me.

We didn't have to wait long before we were buzzed. We'd requested a table by the window if at all possible, and we were lead straight to a perfect table right by the window! We had a lot of good-table pixie dust to make up for the bad-transportation... um... witch dust? Anyway. Our servers were Said and John, and they were both excellent. We started with the bread...

58ysbread.jpg

My favorite is the sweet onion roll with the delicious creamy butter and the roasted garlic. Mom likes the sourdough with butter and garlic. Mike liked the sourdough, also, but he chose not to try the garlic - he said he doesn't like garlic "plain" like that, but I'm not sure he's ever had roasted garlic. Oh well, more for Mom and me!

On to appetizers... I chose the chilled seafood salad with lemon creme fraiche and avocado cream...

58yssalad.jpg

Wow. So fantastic. This actually reminds me a lot of an appetizer they used to have at Flying Fish that was lobster with lemon creme fraiche and frisee; it was very similar in presentation. This dish surpasses that because they add crab and shrimp. It was cool, sweet and delicious. The creme fraiche had just a hint of lemon, and the avocado cream added a nice "green" taste. Wonderful.

Mike went with the cheese plate...

58yscheese.jpg

Ok, er, I don't remember which cheese was which. :confused3 The top two were bleu, and I believe the second from the top was Humbolt (sp!!) Fog. The next one was a smokey cheddar, and the last one was creamy and... yum. Just plain yum. The top one was served with brandied pear compote, then there was... we can't remember... we think black currant, then an almond cookie, and then cherries. The toast is fig anise. The first cheese was, to me, only edible with liberal amounts of the brandied pear. Mike's favorite was the smoky cheddar; he liked it on the Yachtsman's sourdough. I liked the last one the best smeared on the fig anise toast with some of the cherries.

This was the first of 2 cheese plates Mike ordered on the trip, and I really enjoyed them. I've always been the type of person who likes cheese *in* my food, but not just... as *cheese*. Eating cheese like this, with carefully selected accompaniments, made a huge difference. Now I crave cheese. It's a disease. We should start a club.

Moving on... Mom ordered the fried rock shrimp with sweet chili sauce

58ysshrimp.jpg

That's a lotta shrimp! This dish was... well, it wasn't as good as it should have been. The shrimp were a bit too chewy, and when they said "sweet" chili sauce, they were not lyin. I would've liked a bit more spice and a bit less sweet, and I think my mom agreed. This almost felt like a throw-away dish to me. It was enjoyable, but not fantastic.

For our mains, I ordered the ribeye...

58ysribeye.jpg

Ok, lemme preface this by saying this was a *wonderful* steak by anyone's standards. It was cooked beautifully and it was full of flavor. Having said that, though... have you ever gone to a restaurant you really enjoy, and instead of ordering your favorite item, you decide to branch out? That's what I did here by ordering the ribeye instead of the filet, and while I enjoyed the ribeye, I kinda wish I'd stuck to my old favorite. It's a favorite for a reason. The filet just *is* my cut of meat. I wouldn't want anyone to take that as a discouragement from ordering the ribeye, though - it was very tasty, and I enjoyed the horseradish mashed potatoes.

Mom and Mike both ordered the filet...

58ysfilet.jpg

They both got the brandy peppercorn sauce instead of the red wine sauce. Two of Mike's favorite foods are steak and pepper, so he was in heaven. Mom thought the sauce was just a bit *too* peppery, but Mike loved it. He said the steak just melted in his mouth, and it went perfectly with the pepper in the sauce and the hint of brandy. He didn't say a word through the entire meal, and ate every bite. From then on, every steak he had was compared to this one, and he emailed his mom that the best steak in the world was at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. I think we have a winner!

Time for dessert!! I ordered the grand marnier strawberries...

58ysstrawberry.jpg

It was served with lemon cornbread with white chocolate gelato, and overall I really enjoyed it. I liked the lemon-corn flavor of the cornbread (that sounds very odd, but it was delicious), and the orangy flavor the liquor gave the strawberries. The first of many strawberry desserts I had this trip.

Mike ordered the... chocolate trio, I think it was called...

58yschocolate.jpg

From left to right we have a passion-fruit filled chocolate cake dome, banana chocolate mousse, and a sort of chocolate lava souffle/cake. The passionfruit dome was *sour*. Mike, the stinker, innocently offered me a bite, and my mouth nearly turned inside out. My mom liked it the best of the three of us, but even she agreed it was a bit too sour. Mike doesn't like banana, so I ate most of the banana chocolate mousse. The chocolate lava cake was a big hit, though: very warm and moist, with that oozy chocolate center. Plus, isn't the presentation pretty??

Mom ordered the heirloom apple tart...

58ysapples.jpg

It was served with caramel gelato, which she said went very well with the tart. It wasn't very sweet, so the gelato was able to add a nice sweetness to the dessert. She really enjoyed this and ate every bite... Mike and I didn't get any...

Overall: We love the Yachtsman. Time and again it proves to be one of our favorite meals on the trip, and Mike rated his steak here as the best entree he had on the whole trip. Great service, great atmosphere, fantastic food. What could be better?? :thumbsup2

Your reviews are great! I'm glad to see another person eats burgers at WDW as much as I do!

Am I understanding it right that you were able to get burgers at Raglan Road at dinner time? This would make me very happy as I want to eat there but hate the idea of going for lunch in the middle of the day!

I'm just joining in. Everything looks very tasty. Can't wait to read about the rest of your trip.

Ah, no, we got burgers at lunch. I imagine you could ask about getting a burger at dinner, though. I know at Sci-Fi they don't have the burgers on the dinner menu, but people have said they've been able to get them anyway. It never hurts to ask! :thumbsup2

Thanks for reading!

First of all let me say I knew you were my kinda gal - Martini in hand!!!!:thumbsup2 :dance3: :yay: Hazelnut......sounds :cloud9:

I thought you were referring to the strength of the martini when you said it didn't take long before you were buzzed.:lmao:

OK, onto the food. I am so excited about trying Yachtsman...I've never gotten a cheese plate before for the same reason you stated, now you've got me thinking about that and your seafood salad which looked really good.

I know exactly what you mean about "branching out". I'm a filet gal too and I was on a "branching out" streak for a long while having a few too many just OK ribeyes and NY strips. I'm happy to report I am now back on track with my filets!:thumbsup2

Brandy & Peppercorns?????? Two of my most favorite things, the sauce of choice for me is decided!!!

Thanks for a wonderful and very informative review!!!

Great reviews! I can't wait to try the Yachtsman Steakhouse myself this fall.

Great review of Yachtsman ... I think I'm gonna have to add this to the list for next year. Oh, and if you're accepting members into the Cheese Addicts of America Club, I would like to nominate myself as a charter member. :thumbsup2

Looks like I'll have to add Yachtsman Steakhouse to my list of places to try, thanks for the review.

Great Reviews so Far...Can't wait for More!!! Turf Club is Like a Hidden gem, I have only eaten there once, when we stayed at SSR. All the Burgers Looked Tasty, except Beaches and Cream and that is the one place I was planning on going to for a burger. Can't wait for more and Thank You!!
