First I Graduated, then We ATE!! Food review with TONS O' PICS!! (COMPLETE 6/12!!)

Congrats on graduating!!
Thanks for the reviews. I am following along.

As for the Beaches & Cream burger. How disappointing! I was looking forward to eating there again Sept. But, that patty looks so different, from the past burgers, I will skip it. It just seems disney, just does not know when to leave a good thing alone. :confused3

The burgers at Beaches and Cream used to be much better. We were told once, a couple of trips ago, that they used to grind their meat fresh, but they don't anymore. This burger tasted like it not only hadn't been ground fresh, but also like it was just a frozen patty thrown on the grill.

Having said that, tho, Mike's cheesesteak was good, and later we went back and got hot dogs that we enjoyed a lot. Also, of course, there's the ice cream! :thumbsup2

Great reviews so far! What's that dark thing on the top of the bun at the center, on the burger from Raglan Road? Every picture I've seen of their burger seems to have a dark thing on the center of the bun like that, and I can't figure out what it is.

I think the dark thing is a bit of caramelized onion. I'm not 100% sure, but it tasted sweet and that's what it looked like. It didn't add a huge amount of flavor, really, and it actually pretty much fell off when I cut the burger in half. Also, when we went back later (and got burgers...) it wasn't on either of our buns.

Congratulations!!!

Nice job on the reviews so far! I'm not a big fan of bread pudding but we end up ordering some every time we eat at Raglan Road because it's so good. I could do without the butterscotch sauce myself (I agree, it's too sweet) but I'll take the Creme Anglaise!! :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more. :goodvibes

Thanks for the grats!

Mike was wild about the butterscotch sauce, so I had to restrain him from a full-out pour; he had to content himself with dipping. Bread pudding is good when it's *good* (as it is at Raglan Road), but it's really easy to mess up... we'll see not-so-good bread pudding in a later review.

Mmmm....great pictures! We also loved:lovestruc the bread pudding at Raglan Road!

Thanks! It's so yummy. :cloud9:

I've been contemplating a meal at B & C, and that roast beef sub looks GREAT!

He really liked it, so much that he ordered it again. I took a bite (just one, that's all he'd give up!), and it was mighty tasty. It normally comes with peppers, onions, and shrooms, but Mike skipped those. Also, the second time he ordered it the waitress brought au jus for him to dip it into.

I'm signing on......popcorn::

Welcome aboard! Please keep your hands and arms inside the review, and there are drool cloths on the back of the seat in front of you. :lmao:

popcorn:: I'm in too! Thanks for taking the time and effort to post your reviews!

Thanks again for all the comments and feedback!

On to the eats...

I made an ADR for Kona at 12:55 because Mike had seen the white chocolate cheesecake on the menu. If it's one thing Mike likes more than chocolate, it's white chocolate. I'm used to having a car at Disney, so even though I *know* the snags that can occur in resort-to-resort transportation, I'm not very experienced in dealing with them. I'd talked to my mom the night before, and without really thinking clearly, she suggested we take a bus from SSR to MK, then the bus to the Poly. Of course I realized no bus runs from MK to the Poly, and for some reason I got anti-monorail (dude, it smells like pee...), so I thought we'd just hop the first non-MK bus and then head from there to the Poly. Again, my plans... they were flawed.

The first non-MK bus was Epcot, and not only am I not experienced with resort-to-resort travel, but I'm even *less* experienced with the transportation options at the front of Epcot, since I usually stay at either BC or BW. The kindly bus driver informed us (after I asked her once we arrived at Epcot) that I had to take the monorail to the TTC, then switch monorails to get to the Poly. Also, of course, you have to go through bag inspection at Epcot to even get on the monorail there. *le sigh*

While transportation isn't my forte (clearly), I AM familiar with the fact that it's WAY shorter to walk to the Poly from the TTC than try to catch the monorail (esp since the line was a MILE long b/c they were having monorail issues), so that's what we did. Unfortunately it was about 500 degrees, so we sweated our way to Kona and were about 15 minutes late for our ADR. Luckily they seated us without an issue, and soon we were enjoying the cool air of the Polynesian lobby and I was sipping one of these...

56konasmoothie.jpg

A strawberry smoothie. A bit sweet, but delicious, especially after our hot trek along asphalt paths to get there.

We both ordered burgers (yeah, again!). They were the same, except mine had swiss and Mike's had cheddar. His was medium well and mine was medium rare.

56konaburger.jpg

Miracle of miracles, my burger actually *was* medium rare this time!! It was the first time so far my burger had actually been cooked the way I wanted it. Now only if they'd toasted that bun... I guess a girl can't have everything. It was still yum, juicy and fresh-tasting.

For dessert, of course, we had...

56konacake.jpg

White chocolate cheesecake. I say "we," but actually it was really more Mike's, since I was still sipping on my smoothie. I had a couple of bites, and it was creamy and delicious. He really enjoyed it, and kept talking about it the whole trip - though he couldn't remember the name "Kona Cafe." ;)

Overall: Despite transportation woes (my fault), Kona was good as always. Unfortunately due to the heat and how much food we ate, we were too tired/full/lazy to walk around the Poly like we planned and take pics. Plus my camera battery died. This trip was sort of a comedy of errors...

I hadn't made a dinner ADR for us, because I figured we'd just do CS or wing it. We enjoyed our Turf Club dinner so much that Mike suggested we make an ADR to eat there again, so I said sure. We requested a table outside when we made the ADR, but the hostess led us straight to the same table in the back corner of the restaurant where we'd sat two nights before. We looked at each other, and I immediately asked her if we could sit outside. She said no problem, and took us to a table on the terrace.

We had a nice view of DTD, and it was a really lovely night. We started with onion rings with 3 dips...

56tcrings.jpg

Ok. If I had any one problem with the Turf Club, it would be that they didn't really describe things well on the menu. It just said "onion rings with 3 dips." I supposed we should have asked *what* three dips, because they turned out to be lime mustard, mango ketchup, and red pepper ranch. Neither of us will touch mustard, Mike doesn't like mango (and neither of us like ketchup), and neither of us like ranch. I though the mango ketchup was actually pretty good; it didn't taste much like ketchup. The red pepper ranch wasn't bad, but still had a bit too much of that "ranch" taste that I don't like. Mike didn't like the dips at all. The onion rings themselves were good.

We both got burgers. Mike got his with fries, and I got mine with the Turf Club potatoes.

56tcburger.jpg

So good. Burger cooked perfectly medium rare; great smokey bacon; that excellent sourdough herbed bun. The potatoes were good, cheesy and peppery, though a little greasier than I would've liked. Mike, of course, devoured his second Turf Club burger and was very happy indeed. :cloud9:

We decided to skip dessert and head to Ghirradelli's at DTD instead. We hopped the boat (yay, way to make Mike happy!) and walked over there. Unfortunately it was closed for rehab! Agh!! :headache: Saddened, we made our way to Goofy's Candy Co in search of sweets.

56gccase.jpg

Wowza. Mike stood in line and got a triple chocolate cookie and some other chocolate filled brownie while I got one of those slushie things in the build a cup. Ok. Wow. I'm a dope. That thing cost $8.52!!! EIGHT dollars and FIFTY-TWO cents!!! And the slushie wasn't that good. And there wasn't that much of it!! I'm still complaining about it. In case you can't tell. We ate the cookie and brownie the next night; Mike liked them, but I thought they were a bit sweet.

Lessons du jour: Plan travel routes carefully. Check prices before buying.

Lots of burgers, the RR one looked the best to me though :)

The cheesecake at Kona looked delicious as did the B&C sundae :goodvibes

You must love burgers as much as you say! They all look so good. So do all of your desserts.

You must love burgers as much as you say! They all look so good. So do all of your desserts.

Yeah, yeah, I do. The thing is in NC you can't get a burger cooked below medium well, so when I'm in FL I go a little nuts. After the last review, tho, there's not a burger for a while. We were also paying OOP at this point, and burgers are cheap. :thumbsup2

I promised no more burgers for a while, and I wasn't lyin.

We got up pretty early (for us) to hit AK, and we grabbed some toast in the room for breakfast - I have a strict "never leave the room with an empty tummy" policy for mornings. We waited a while on a bus, and being in the Springs area of SSR, the bus was already pretty full by the time it got there. I really missed not having a car for the first part of this trip.

Anyway. We got to AK, and it was humid. Sticky. Ugh. Mike got several pics, including this one...

mikeak1.jpg

We hit Everest twice, wandered around for a bit, then headed to Pizzafari for lunch. I'd never eaten there before (and obviously Mike hadn't), so I was a bit torn on what to order. I ended up getting the Italian sandwich, plain...

57pfsandwich.jpg

Ok, well. In case you haven't gathered by now, I generally like my sandwiches plain, but in this case... after seeing one of these babies fully loaded with pesto, roasted tomatoes, and even caesar salad, I actually wish I'd just ordered it the way it came. It was a little bit boring plain. The bread was good, though, kind of a muffaletta (sp?) style bread. I also got chips with it, and wish I'd gotten grapes - I didn't eat the chips, and ended up throwing them away because the bag took up too much room in my bag.

Mike got the pepperoni pizza...

57pfpizza.jpg

He liked it. I didn't have a bite. He said it was good, filled his tummy, and the pepperoni wasn't too spicy. He didn't have much to say, so I guess that means he wasn't too terribly impressed or didn't hate it too much.

We got an order of breadsticks to split...

57pfsticks.jpg

We both agreed that these were good. Hot, fluffy inside, garlicky, a lil crispy... my sandwich and his pizza weren't all that filling alone (prob. because I ordered my sandwich plain, silly girl), so the breadsticks helped round things out.

In a side note, I ordered the sweet tea they offer here, and it was very good! I'm super picky about sweet tea, and I really miss it at WDW. So if any of you are cravin' sweet tea, hit Pizzafari. ;)

After lunch we found Nemo whilst singing about it, then we decided to head out. We were waiting in line for the SSR bus when I got the wild hair to show Mike AKL, so we hopped over into that line. We were wandering around the Lodge when Mike said, "Something smells good!" I told him it was Boma, and that I could maybe try to get us in for dinner if he wanted, rather than going for our 7:15 ADR at Artist Point. I told him my mom would kill me if we went to Boma without her, and he said, "Do it!" Cheeky. :rolleyes1

It was about 4pm at this time, and they were able to get us in as the restaurant opened, at 4:30. I was happy, but a little nervous since I'd canceled Boma later in the week because I was afraid Mike wouldn't like it due to his extreme pickiness. Silly me.

I started with soup...

57bomasoup.jpg

Sorry, forgot to take it until I started eating. :goodvibes Anyway, this was the chicken curry soup. I love the big chunks of chicken. Mike and I both agreed that the broth itself is a bit sweet, but I find that the nice, wheatie chunk of pita helps counter that.

My main plate...

57bomamine.jpg

It's a little messy, but that's Mike's fault. I have prime rib (cooked a lil more than I like), potatoes with affritude, ribs, couscous that Mike dumped on top of my potatoes and ribs, mac and cheese, curry tofu and greenbeans, and salmon. I loved the prime rib as always. One of my favorite things to do is mix the potatoes with the mac and cheese; it gives the mac and cheese some zip and cuts the spiciness of the potatoes. The ribs were wonderful. The curry tofu and greenbeans wasn't as good as last time; the tofu was still crispy and yummy, but the flavor of the dish wasn't there. I didn't really care for the salmon; I'm just starting to like salmon, so I was kind of taking a leap here.

Mike's main plate...

57bomamike.jpg

Potatoes with affritude, ribs, mealie bread, couscous, coconut rice, prime rib, mac and cheese. He didn't like the ribs; he thought they were too spicy. He loved the coconut rice, but he knew I wouldn't like it because I'm not a huge fan of coconut and he said it had a very strong coconut flavor. He really liked the potatoes and the prime rib, and he preferred mixing the prime rib with the mac and cheese. We both agreed that the mealie bread was *wonderful* - like the best corn bread you've ever had.

We didn't go back for seconds because Mike... doesn't... at buffets. I dunno, I think it's a cultural thing. I wanted more mac and cheese and prime rib, but I didn't want to make him sit there, so we moved on to dessert.

My dessert...

57bomamydessert.jpg

Pineapple cheesecake, banana bread pudding w/ vanilla sauce, zebra domes, and spice cake pyramid. The banana bread pudding here is one of my favorite desserts; I looove it. Warm, sweet without being too sweet, delicious. Of course the zebra domes are wonderful! The spice cake pyramid thingie was great, too; not too spicy, like a gingerbread, more just like... warm. And the icing on top provided a nice contrast. Oh, after all that I didn't even touch the pineapple cheesecake, and I normally love those.

Mike's dessert...

57bomamiked.jpg

Zebra dome, coconut squares, chocolate mousse, flourless chocolate cake. Mike really loved the coconut squares, especially when he put the chocolate mousse on them. He liked the flourless chocolate cake, but it wasn't anything super special. He doesn't like coffee flavored foods, so I didn't tell him the zebra domes are actually coffee mousse: he loved it! He's sitting here now telling me, "I only had one!? I wish I'd had more..." When I told him later they were coffee, he said he couldn't taste it at all, just smooth, yummy chocolate.

All in all, Boma was a huge hit. Mike listed Yachtsman Steakhouse and Boma as his two favorite meals of the trip! Shows what I know, thinking he wouldn't like it...

Today's lessons: Plain isn't always better. Boma is universal yumminess! :rotfl:

Thanks for another great installment, can't wait for Yachtsman!!!!

Thanks!! And you won't have to wait long: Yachtsman's next!

Another great update!:goodvibes

Thanks for reading!

great review so far makes me wish i could get to WDW right now.

Me too, and I just got back! I said to Mike earlier, "Hey, what would you think of a late January/early February trip to Disney?" Since I told him how much cooler it is then than in May, I think he's on board. ;)

Great reviews! I totally blame you though for my cheeseburger craving at midnight!

This is a problem. Going through all my food pics, then writing the reviews... it's making me very, very hungry!! I'm craving Boma right now. *sigh*

great reports and glad you're venturing on to more than just burgers!:rotfl:
