DLR Kennel questions

Hi,

We are going to Disneyland for 4 days "on the way" to Oregon from KC and we will have our Lab with us. We have visits/walks "scheduled" every 4 hours or so and if they will allow her to check out and back in we will walk her back to the Motel 6 (I know it's a long walk but they are dog friendly) for our mid day swim/nap break.

For those of you who have used the kennels before, I have a question about timing in the morning. Our plan is to be at the kennel door at least 30 minutes before park/MM opening when the kennel opens but hopefully more like 45 minutes so that we are among the first in line to drop her off. We will check her in and then proceed directly to the security lines. Should this get us well positioned in the lines or should we consider splitting our party up - one adult to check her in, the other adult and kids to/thru security and then meet up either in the security line or at the gate line? Will the dropper need to have their ticket to get thru security or just the gate?

Also, if any of you have dogs who don't like the sound of fireworks (ours doesn't, even from far away) have they been terrorized when you pick them up at night?

Any other suggestions? We plan to bring her bedding, our own food, her Kong with peanut butter and her favorite indestructible chew bone every day. We'd appreciate any other information that fellow dog people might have to make her stay more comfortable.

I only know a little as my mom brought her dog once. The kennel is after security so looks like the entire family is going to go through with her

The kennels they use are dog size appropiate so a bigger kennel for a bigger dog. They are just a plastic shell so defintly bring your dogs own comforts!!

The dog walk place is a small area around back. Im sure you can check her in and out though. We did leave my moms dog there for the fireworks and I cant remmebr much about that. (its been a couple years) I seem to remember they open a half hour before the park.

Oh now they require you to show proof of shots so bring that info with you.

Have fun at Disneyland and Im sure someone with more recent expierience will be around soon.

You can check in and out so you can walk the dog, which they encourage as the dog will sit in a cage otherwise. The front doors are closed up so I don't think the dogs are too bothered by the fireworks.

Wow - she has to go thru security with us?! That should be interesting... She is a people lover and not the most restrained on a leash. Guess we had better get to work with that! LOL!!

The securtiy thing is no big deal, the dog will walk on through. They will just want to look inside the dog's goodie bag.

It is good to bring toys and even a small bed for your dog to help make their stay better.

We really have a good time bringing my dog to DLR, we do it occasionally just for fun as we live close. The best is taking your dog on the parking structure tram as we joke it is the only attraction my dog can enjoy. I know your not using the M&F parking structure tram but if you have a few minutes with your dog go ahead and take your dog for a ride!

This made me laugh! I would love to see a dog on the tram! I thought they had closed the kennel so glad to know it's still in operation...what is the fee?

Back before my parents bought a motorhome we stayed in hotels, so we always told the dog he was going to visit Doggieland(not that he understood any of this), and he loved the tram ride. Now he just chills in the motorhome and we visit him periodically during the day since we park the motorhome at Disneyland.

It's like $20 a day. The best part is you have up to an hour after closing time to pick up your dog so you don't have to rush on the way out.

My dog loves the tram ride and people seem to enjoy seeing him taking the ride from the structure to the park entrances. The dog-tram DL excursion is a blast!

We figured we could walk to the gates from the Motel 6 just as fast as we could drive, park and get to the gates but if it seems possible to still be in line early enough after parking and checking her into the kennel, we might have to try driving just so she can have the ride!

I don't think she will be happy with the days in the kennel but hopefully camping for a week afterward will make it up to her a bit.
