How many places in AK, Epcot and MK do NOT take my room key thing for payment?

I would like to head out for the day with a $20 and my room card and nothing else.

Thanks

All the stores & restaurants will. Having some cash is good for snacks &/or drinks b/c some carts won't take the room card. We don't bring much cash b/c we charge everything to the room & then pay for that w/our Disney visa card. Then we end up w/double Disney reward dollars towards our next trip!

Most everywhere will take your card. The vendors who walk around before parades need cash, but most of the food carts even take cards now.

I like having some cash to pay for little things -- as I don't have the patience to read a long statement on check out day with items for $5 or less. Mostly, I carry cash on the off chance a machine is down when I want to buy something. Has only happened once (and at Disneyland not Disney World) but I was really happy I didn't have to get out of line and find the item again later when the card reader didn't work! I can't remember the last time I saw a restaurant/shop/card that didn't take the card, though. Like a pp said, it's mostly just the vendors who are walking around (like the balloon guy) who don't take cards.

i think everyplace takes the room card - even the vendors in the kiosks - i only carry the room card - nothing else.

Good idea to have the cash in case of a card reader problem. We hadn't thought ahead about that possibility before our last trip.
We came out of hiding from a T-storm and tried to get ice cream treats and use our dining plan credits. The card reader at the cart had gotten drenched in the storm and was not working. We had no cash on us. :sad2: Instead of sending us on our way empty-handed, that wonderful CM gave us our treats at no charge, wishing us a magical day. He truly did make our day. :thumbsup2

Last year I only took $10 into MK on day thinking everywhere took the key to the world, sooo... my kids went to Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and guess what, I wasn't allowed to add a tip onto the bill. I felt so bad...

My kids get a certain amount of cash to spend on the trip.... but I use my key for just about everything -- we never carry much cash at all -- one of the MANY things I love about WDW!!:thumbsup2

So it is like a cruise ship in that you just charge everything to you room key? Can you preload it with a certain amount?

When we were in WDW last Sept there were some of the carts that did not take the room card or DDP for snacks. Just to let you know.

I know for sure the funnel cake cart in Epcot only takes cash. Found that out the hard way once, so now we always take a little cash too.

You might want to take a few quarters (and pennies) for the penny presses and the shootin' arcade. That and a couple ones and fives just in case should be plenty. However I don't like having to use my card for every small purchase either and prefer to use cash for snacks and purchases, so I usually take more just to be safe. Using cash is also a good way to budget myself and keep track of how much I am spending.
