Where to go in July with 5?

Okay, have some friends hoping to go in July. they would like to stay value for the least expense. But, they have DH, DW, DD17 in a wheelchair, DS15, DD11. What options do they have with five people at the values? I remember reading something suites or something. Is that cheaper than 2 regular rooms? If they have to do two rooms, do they have adjoining?

Until the more knowledgeable arrive, here's my take on it:

Value Options: Two rooms (no guarantee of adjoing) or a Family Suite at All Star Music. The family suite costs $184-- just about the price of 2 separate rooms.

Moderate: Trundle room at POR. With a wheelchair, it might get a bit tight. And the trundle is limited to kids under 5', so it might be tight for the 11 year old.

Deluxes: Most of the Deluxes have room for 5-- they have a daybed.

Now, some of that changes when you factor in the wheelchair. If the 17 year old needs a handicapped accessible room (shower...) as opposed to a child with a badly broken leg who can make do for a while, then I have no idea of the options-- you may want to check on the disabilites board.

They could also try a cabin at Fort Wilderness, but I can't imagine that would be convenient for the wheelchair bound.

It's also possible to rent DVC points and get a 2-bedroom villa, but I'm clueless there, sorry!

Hey, thanks for your info! Yeah, I guess it's just as expensive for a suite as for 2 rooms. They'd probably do better with the suite room wise, even the mods can be small for a wheelchair. Yeah, the chair is a permanent thing. I think they would only stay 2 nights at the most and would need a value suite also for the expense. It definitely is harder going to disney with an average sized family. I sometimes forget that because as an adult, I've only been with my DD17, or when she was younger, her dad, too. Moneywise for us, two is good! Five - Yikes! Anyway, hopefully it will work out for them. They want to go, but they don't really understand us being fanatics about it! And, if it gets too involved, I don't think they'll want to get that involved.

I told my friend, hey, you should have asked me about stuff, for planning and all. She said, why, what do I have to plan? She called about rooms, but really has no idea about looking for discounts, or any planning, etc. I'll have to have her order a dvd, just in case they get lucky! And I'll watch the july code board.

I would go for a handicap room in a deluxe. The rooms are bigger sized as are the beds and the extra daybed in the rooms. If your getting 2 rooms at the other resorts you'll be paying close to deluxe price anyhow. And would also get one on the monorail line for convience of getting to the parks. Makes things a whole lot faster and easier!

I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Why not try on the Disablilities board? I bet you'll get some concrete ideas about not only which resorts make sense, but about room requests to make and so on. They'll know which questions to ask to help your friend make the most of her trip.

And let her know about the-- I think it's called GAC-- for people who need any sort of special assistance.

I'm glad your helping your friend out. I can't imagine the vacation they would have if they went in July with no plan!

With one person in a wheelchair, a monorail resort would be the most convenient. But, they are not value by any means. I'd try for a garden wing room at the Contemporary. It's probably the cheapest monorail resort room, and they could walk to Magic Kingdom.

Another thought -- Swan or Dolphin. I don't know about handicapped rooms there, but I believe you can bring in a rollaway and sleep 5 in one room. There are often good deals to be had at those hotels, including rates for teachers, nurses, etc. Getting to Epcot and Disney Studios would be easy.

Maxiesmom, thanks! Actually, I can't imagine no plan either. I must admit, silly of me maybe, but I was a bit miffed when I heard they were going on a trip to Disney and hadn't asked me anything. I 'm usually the last one to hear stuff, so I didn't even know they were thinking of going and it's been awhile. They just sort of forgot to tell me. I have lots of people who come in(I work at our little library and in our small town we just talk and get to know everyone, we are not a quiet place in general!), and ask what they should do to get started planning a trip and I give them my Birnbaum's newest book and this website, along with allears and mousesavers. Anyway, silly to be a bit miffed I guess but she's one of my best friends! Plus I don't want them to be unhappy with Disney cause they didn't think there was anything other than maybe rooms to plan!
