Normally we stay at Candy Cane Inn. However this trip we are travelling with friends and they would like to keep cost to under $100.00 a night including taxes.

Likes:
walking distance up to 20 mins is okay
free breakfast
free parking
clean

We're only staying one night, so don't need alot of amenities - pool, games, internet, etc

We normally stay at Candy Cane, but if we want to go cheaper, we stay at Desert Inn and Suites or Carousel Inn, depending on the price we can get. I've heard that Park Vue and Tropicana are decent, too.

But hojo doesn't have breakfast.

however, if you got the entertainment rate of $59 a night, you could just buy b'fast on the way (Mimis, McDonald's) or even in the park, and still come out under 100. :)

We stayed at the Tropicana last year and are again this year. It's clean, and not fancy, but the rate we got is in your range. The pool is small (but clean) and there is a continental breakfast (not fancy, but free).

There's a laundry room and a little snack shop, and it is super duper close to the entrance.

I called HoJo and the entertainment rate is $116.10

Other rates we found were:
HoJo
Webrate $124.00
AAA $111.60
Mousesavers $99.20
1800# $129.00

Desert Inn and Suites 109.00
Carousel Inn and Suites AAA $89.00
Tropicana $111.75
Castle Inn $68.00
Anaheim Plaza Hotel and Suites $65.00
Jolly Roger $67.81

Entertainment Card
Anabella $139
Portofino Inn $99.95
Jolly Roger $89.95
Carousel $101.00
Ramada Inn Maingate $109.00

The lady at HoJo laughed when I asked about the $59.00 rate.

We're staying Monday Feb 25th for one night. Looks like Castle Inn or Jolly Roger are the cheapest without having overly bad reviews.

Oh my goodness! I think we stayed at the Jolly Roger on our honeymoon, almost 20 years ago!

I would go with the Desert Inn and Suites, we stayed there last month and were very pleased. It is super close, clean and offers a free continental breakfast.

The Anaheim Plaza is clean and cheap. They also have microwaves and refridgerators so you can stock up on food and eat breakfast in your room.

There is no continental breakfast but the other ammenities make up for it.

Huge, heated pool.
New furnishings in every room.
Helpful staff. Towel, pillow, etc. deliveries can take awhile though. I find this at many hotels though.
Less than a mile walk to the park.

My wife and I have made it our official hotel. It's not going to blow your socks off but what are you looking for in a hotel? All we look for is a clean room and a comfy bed as well as hot water for showers. Beware of the water pressure there. Don't turn it up too high or you'll lose a few layers of skin.

I'm not sure if all of the rooms have the new furnishings though. But ours did last time so that was nice.

Woo-hoo. I booked HoJos today for $59.00. Decided we didn't need breakfast, we'll have beignets at Downtown Disney, or stop at Mimi's.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm glad you found the right person to talk to at the HoJo. If they "laugh" at the $59 ent. rate, you most likely do not have the in-house reservations people.

Have a great trip!

Thanks Quest4Fun re the update on the Anaheim Plaza....this was the lowest priced 'walking distance' room I could find for a Saturday night...and all I care about is a clean bathroom with hot water and a clean bed, so it looks like the AP will be fine. Do they charge for parking? if so, how much?

And for those who rec'd the walking distance motels, do you really save time over using Disney parking?

HydroGuy wrote a nice thread about driving and walking.

I know that for us, when we have driven in, the time to get into the structure, pay, park, walk to the escalator (they always seem to park us just about as far away as you can be), get down it, walk to the tram, wait for the tram, take the tram, get off the tram, walk from the tram area to bag check...we've taken at absolute minimum half an hour, but closer to an hour. It has been SO maddening to me.

Whereas if your'e walking from HoJo's or even Anabella, you are only slowed down by feet and crosswalk lights, and it has taken MUCH less time.

Thanks, bumbershoot!!!!
I'm a World kinda girl, so I measure distances a lot differently I think!
But I almost always stay at the BW and walk to both Epcot and DHS so I get what you mean....I never ride the buses in the World and rarely park so as to have to wait for a tram...I hatehatehate waiting!!!! But walking is easy...so I'll just keep my AP ressie and be happy!

You made the right choice. With regards to your question about parking, they do charge $4 I think but we actually weren't charged for it when our final bill was tallied. AP is a great hotel considering what they charge. I think it's a little odd that more people don't recommend this hotel. Maybe they get a dividend from recommending one of the others.

I don't know if I mentioned before that they just put new furnishings in every room. It's a lot nicer looking inside than it was before. Just make sure you request extra towels and pillows early since they take their sweet time bringing them up. They don't have elevators so if your room is on the second floor it will be quieter than the main floor but you will have to roll up a longish handicapped ramp. If you're buff it's quicker to take the stairs.

Be sure to show your AAA membership if you have it. They also do AARP for those who are able to get it.

My wife and I clocked our parking garage to main gate time at about 20 minutes. This can vary if you walk very slowly or have to take the elevator due to a stroller. It's about a 5 minute walk from your parking spot to the tram. From there it's roughly 5 minutes if you arent' lucky enough to get on a tram right away. It takes about 3 minutes to roll to the tram stop at the park. It's another 3 minute walk to the baggage check. Have your bags open and ready for inspection. Avoid the lines with strollers. They go faster. It takes about 2 minutes to go through the baggage check then another 2 minute walk to the ticket counter. If you already have tickets or passes like we had you're at the turnstyle. Voila! 20 minutes. Ticketing can add 10 minutes to your time.

I've done this hundreds of times so I have it down to a science. If this is your first time you may be looking at 30 to 40 minutes. It's about a 20 minute walk from the AP unless it's 108 degrees like it was when we went. Make sure you take a bottle of water or two. There is very little shade along the way. It's still better than waiting for the tram.

Refer to Hydroguy's sticky thread at the top of this forum "Tips and Tricks" and see the thread in there about driving vs. staying within walking distance. It's pretty convincing.:thumbsup2

He doesn't take into account what a sweet deal the AP is. ;)
