The Great Make Up Trip Of 2008~7/22- SEE YOU REAL SOON! (pg. 86) ~COMPLETED~

What are Love Bugs??

luvbugs.gif

Lovebugs are pesky little black bugs that live in the ground or grass (ground) until it is their "time" to fly around and annoy the crap outta humans. They are a hazard during really bad seasons if they are flying across highways and such because they smash onto your windshield and it does not take long for them to build up. There is only so much your windsheild wipers can do. The worst part about them is the longer you wait to wash them off of your car, the harder it is to get them off because they sort of stick and crust over. They also have an acid type substance in their "guts" so when they splat on your car and you leave them too long, it is eating into your paint.

Other than this, Lovebugs are completely harmless. They do not bite, in fact I've never even heard of someone being bitten by a lovebug and I've lived in a place that has them, all of my life. They are somehow attracted to us so if you are sitting outside, they will probably land on you. They can get pretty thick(meaning a lot of them) before their "season" is over and they go back into the ground until the next season. I have read up on lovebugs before and I still have no idea what their purpose actually is. :confused3 PS- I don't really care, either. :rolleyes1

Here is a picture of a lovebug.....

As you can see, it landed on my finger and is completely harmless. The bee that chased me away from the flowers while I was trying to take pictures today, is not. :sad2:

The long skinny things sticking off of it in various lengths and directions is it's legs. The orange/red spot is it's head/eyes and it has wings (obviously) and they sort of "float" around.

Here are two that are "attached" to each other. These are commonly seen. Yes...they are "doing it". :lmao:

I took a small amount of video so you can see how they sort of "float" around. They are low to the ground right now because it is at the end of the day. They are going back into the grass for night time. In the middle of the day is when they will be trying to fly up your nose. :rolleyes1 They still sort of float or hover around in the middle of the day, just at a higher level.

Here's the video:

This concludes LOVEBUG 101. :teacher:

Lovebugs do not worry me in the least. I am used to them and they don't hurt you, they are just annoying.

BEDBUGS on the other hand are starting to make me VERY nervous!!! Seems to be more and more stories of bedbugs at Disney being reported. Some at POR too! :scared1: :sad2: I better not find any bugs. I better not get bitten by any bugs. I can't believe we are going to have to tear the room apart looking for them before we bring in our luggage and get settled in. I'm not a happy camper when I think about it too much.

I SWEAR that is what ripped up my legs when we went and were at CBR!!!!

Bugs do not normally creep me out, but...EW!!! :scared1:
Also, I am not sure that "love bug" is the appropriate name for them, unless they do it frequently, thus showing each other a great deal of love! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the lesson Blue. I didn't know what about lovebugs either.
No prob. :thumbsup2

EEWWW!!!!!

:scared: :scared1:  :scared: :scared1:  :scared: :scared1:

Up your nose?? Seriously????????????
:rotfl2: Sometimes there can be so many of them flying around that it seems like if you breathe in too hard you might sniff one in! Hasn't happened to me yet but it feels like it could.

I've never heard of anyone getting bitten by them. You may want to do a search on CBR and bedbugs, though!! That may have been what got you. I have been googling bedbugs to death the past few days because of a couple of new threads here on the DIS reporting them again. On the trip advisor website, I did a search with "disney" and "bedbugs" and I came up with a few complaints. Two of them were at CBR. :confused3

I'm pretty sure that IS why they are called love bugs. There are quite a few "double" one's flying around. ;) :lmao:

I should have said bedbugs. I ripped the beds apart and couldn't find anything but my legs and arms were all spotted and SO itchy. I kept waking up scratching, :sad2: Hopefully AKL will be bedbug free!

Blue Thank you for educating us Northerners about Love Bugs! I have heard of June Bugs but not Love Bugs!! Of course Winkers had her version which I also greatly appreciated!! :rotfl: er mgoal is to make me pee myself aqnd she is doing a fine job!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I prefer my version of love bugs better!

We stayed at AKL in Feb. and we didn't have any problems with bed bugs. The beds were really comfortable. I hope you have the same luck.:thumbsup2

I am finally in full on pack mode!!:cool1: I get more and more excited with every piece of clothing that I put into a suitcase. We also went to Walmart today, which I hate to do but we did it anyway. I got sunscreen for myself and DH and some for DS too. Felt weird buying sunscreen for Disney since the past 2 times we've gone it has been in the winter. I found 2 more Mickey T-shirts for DS and I also found a sunshade for our windshield with Tinkerbell on it. :tinker: Hopefully this helps with the car baking in the parking lot most of the day. DH is officially on vacation from work on Tuesday afternoon. :woohoo:

Sorry I don't have more to report. I just have lots to do. So, I'll leave you with a few more pics from last trip.......
