My Views on VMK Pay to Play (Disney can make Big Bucks)

Ok well I have been thinking about this for quite sometime now, and In my opinion Disney is making one HUGE mistake in closing VMK.

I am looking at this from a business point of veiw, If VMK was to start charging players to become a member heres what non-members wouldn't be able to do:

They could probably just follow Club Penguins member limits.

(Some Ideas)
Non-Members cant:

Buy Items
Would have trading Limits
Room Limits (Public and Guest rooms)
Move Furnish Limit (Only move your furnish so many times)
Pay to have real money turned into credits ( The Sims Online)

Friends List Limit
Would Be able to play games, but not earn credits

Credits for some of the ideas go to Acemicfan, Illusionistic, and supermokey

Not only is Disney making a huge mistake by not taking VMK pay to play, they also can still have Disney Movie Rewards VMK Items and In Park Quest Items, So they are also advertising as well.

Now If im not correct, this would probably be a better program then Club Penguin since they do not have these features. Plus club penguin is way smaller then VMK.

Plus maybe the existing (paying) members could get a badge for all their troubles, sort of like a beta badge or maybe a special pin.

Maybe some people should include these ideas in letters to show VMK and Disney that they have a big way of making profit from VMK and they dont see it.

Thoughts are welcome, Criticism is expected ;)

I'd rather to access VMK and earn my own credits in games. As for room limits, I think non members should be allowed to every room but only friends can access their own rooms (they can't leave it open for public). I think they should be allowed to move their furnish around..it would be maddening to enter your room and you see stuff all over but you can't move it and fix it. As for buying stuff, they can only buy what's on the Shop icon..no specials or anything else I guess. I'd really want the specials but atleast buying something is better than nothing.

But somewhere along the lines, there would have to be limits for non paying members.

I don't think that the Move Furnish Limit is a very good idea, but maybe I just don't really understand what you mean by that. Anyway, how would they get furniture to move if they can't buy items or earn credits?

The rest of the ideas are nice, maybe they can't buy all the items but they can buy some of them.

I think it would be nice if non members got a limit to buying..that way people can buy specials..but they have to use it wisely on something they really like. Either that or like how CP lets non members buy only certain items..

Yup. But I hope VMK doesn't limit as much as CP does. CP is ok but it would be fun to do some of the thing members do. I am not going to be one of them though, especially at this time!

There would still be existing accounts with old items on their accounts.

I was thinking they should just follow Club Penguins path, or maybe something similar with more or certain limits.

You know what gets me?
Last year I suggested here in DIS that VMK go to pay to play and not have the quests in the parks and everyone here virutally jumped on me and beat me up.

Honestly, I was wondering for quite a while when VMK was going to close because I Knew it wasn't bringing home the bacon.

I just joined gaiaonline.com and they have something on there that I think would work for VMK. The have a monthly collectible that you can purchase for $2.50 each month (and only that month, then it is retired). From what I recall VMK has 250,000 active accounts.. if Disney charged even $2 per collectible, they have a potential of making $500,000 each month. I'm sure not everyone would buy this collectible, but then you would have others who would buy more than one. I know I'd pay $2 to have a nice Figment hat or something similar, as long as I knew the site was going to stick around and not just take my money.

A thought that's little along these lines and a little on the lines of Webkinz, how many of us would pay for cute little stuffed dolls of our characters? Maybe each doll could have a code for a special item like webkinz. Then we could buy outfits for them that would also have codes. Webkinz sell for about $15. Each little outfit for those are somewhere around $8. Jegrezo and I talked about this once - even as an adult, I would love a cute little monkeybug stuffed doll:)
Another thought would be to sell trading cards and cards with credits like neopets does. You could buy a card with 10,000 credits or something like that in Walmart. Trading cards with codes would sell like crazy I think. Look at the lengths ppl went to do the park quests to get the cards. If you could buy packs of random cards, people would buy them.
This game has so many options and so much potential to make money, the closing makes zero sense.:sad2:

I think having trading cards is a great idea. Cash cards are another great option: Gaia has Gaia Cash, Maple Story has Nexon Cash, Neopets has Neocash....there are many others as well... Those virtual items help fund the game. Disney is missing out big time on this. :confused3

Cash cards are convienient if you don't have time to earn but what about playing games for credits? Pirates, mansion game, fireworks, its more fun to play them and earn. I think that random card pack would be nice, like sell a small set with random furniture, pins, clothes, credits, maybe even magic.

Well of course don't take away earning credits from games... :) I was just agreeing with others who suggested ways that Disney can monetize from the game. :)

I wonder, if we could buy more space for our friends list. I dislike deleting people and would love to accept those who are asking. Honestly I have around two hundred on the wait list and I'm sure many other people have more than that.

One of my friends thinks that the trading card game was supposed to be a way for Disney to make money from VMK. With the decision to close VMK, the TCG was never launched. ;) I think he is onto something.

No offence, but I think that just takes the fun out of everything..

What am I supposed to do on VMK then if I don't want to pay?

I think that's like saying, " Here, you can have the cake minus the candles, icing, and sugar. "

You're left with only flour, and whatever else is left with the bad cake.

There are alot of online games out there, some really good ones. Most of them are free. I was reading a techie thing that said that this is the way of the future. If I can find it again, I will post a link here. VMK is so unique I have yet to find anything else like it. Too bad, they could have made a bundle.

Thay may be true, However, There would have to be limits, just like club penguin and POTC online have limits and that takes the fun out of everything.

You can have the cake mix, but the cake mix has to be bought ;)

VMK could follow the 3D world - large game subscription model in which you suggest but I think they're likely to experiment other options first like Habbo's model which allows the credits to be obtained by pay to play.
