Have been hearing Apple mentions.....

I have heard Pete and other members of the podcast mention how they enjoy the Apple store, etc. Also sounded like he had good experience editing some video. Just wanted to know anybody's opinion, especially anyone on the podcast, if they decide to grace this thread with their presence, on their use of Apple for video and photo editing, as I want to dive in head first. Don't want to invest in PC products/software, and then realize the pool is empty.

What specs is anybody using? iMac? MacBook Pro? Final Cut Studio? iPhoto? All comments welcome. Thanks.

Hubby and I made the leap last year and have never looked back. It's the most user friendly operating system out there. I have to use a Dell for work and I gotta tell you the frustration levels of finding documents, uploading files, doing graphics, etc. just makes me numb.

Funny story, husband goes out to buy a new printer with all the bells and whistles on it. Plugs it in. Comes upstairs and a message window appears on his laptop. "Macbook has detected a new printer with WiFi. Would you like to set up this printer now?" 5 clicks later he was done. Nothing like Windows Print Wizard!

Get online and look up Mac keystroke commands. It just comes naturally over time, but once you get those down it's even easier to run.

We both have Macbooks, iPhones, and are going to invest in an iMac to run our network downstairs.

I have a MacBook Pro with 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB Ram. I use it all the time for video editing and for editing RAW photos from my dSLR.

There is no comparison between Mac and PC with video and photo editing in my opinion. Mac is much more seamless. I know that others (PC fanboys) may disagree with me totally, but this is just my opinion.

My suggestion is to go into an Apple store and see for yourself how well the software and the OS works in comparison to a Windows PC.

I used to be a PC fanboy (sort of), but my mom got an iMac a few weeks ago, and asked me to help her set it up. Very easy to figure out. A few days later she was showing me video montages with soundtracks and everything. That kind of video would have taken me weeks to do, maybe. I was pretty amazed. Always thought the price of Macs was too much, but as I have aged, I realize more and more, the extra money is usually worth it. Just bought a dSLR, too. Don't know if I could stretch the cost of a good MacBook Pro, but a 2.4GHz iMac is definitely in range.
I was in England last week (wife on business), and got the chance to go to the Apple store. Intended to look at the iMacs and MacBooks, but got mesmerized by the iPod touch. Have to make time to check them out here.
I even love Safari for PC. I will be uninstalling IE soon (if it lets me).

I'm a little bias because I work for Apple, but they are great for video editing...the podcast sounds like its recorded with Garageband, but I could be wrong

Sorry...I know nothing about video or photo editing.

My Apple experience is with a couple of iPods and an iPhone and I dont have a bad word to say.

I have a relatively new Toshiba Satellite laptop but if I was in the market.....I think I would go Apple.

the thing with apple, is that it just works. There is forethought in the design that you do not find in Windows. if you want to do video and photo editing, along with sound... Apple is the way to go. The stock OSX applications do well for learning the basics, after that the advanced applications take the metaphor and extend it to include more options and features.

Apple stores have free seminars that you can attend that cover a lot of the basic applications and their functions. I sat though a lot of those before making the leap.

Dont know much about the photo stuff but we are definately an Apple family

We have a iMac ,Macbook, i Phone and various Ipods thoughout the family and would not have anything else at the moment. DH is a bit of a gadget freak and even looks forward to his Apple Store visit as much as his MK visit

i went over to the dark side last summer and NEVER EVER goin back to the PC/Windows world! I have a macbook (should have splurged even more for the pro though but oh well!) and am in love! it's the easiest OS to use and everything works seamlesly together! Photo editing is a breeze with even iPhoto but i've since upgraded to Aperture. Haven't done much with video editing but the little I've done is very simple too.

Not to mention the apple store and the support they give is amazing! The one by me is chaos every time I go in but there's always someone to help you and answer your questions or teach you something new about what you want to learn about!

We aren't a full-on Apple family, but I prefer my macbook over a regular PC! DH is an Apple fan, but he uses a regular PC and laptop. One day, we may make the leap and get an imac for the house, but that won't happen for awhile.

I love my macbook, but I do get confused sometimes. It's pretty easy to use, but I also use a regular PC at work and I get myself turned around when i'm trying to find something...lol...i'm not the most computer-saavy person out there

I've got the white macbook (not the pro), a 30g iPod video, and my newly purchased 16g iPhone (which I LOVE!!), and DH has a 60g iPod video and the 16g iPod Touch. DH will probably get an iPhone before the year is up, but I think he's waiting until the new ones come out. In case there's anything interesting...

We're a split family - DW has a PC and I have a MacBook Pro and a 24" iMac. From what I have read, the standard MacBooks are fine. It's really not necessary to get a MacBook Pro unless you are planning to do video editing on it - that and the size of the screen are the primary differences. The other consideration in buying a Mac laptop is that the MacBook is pretty much standard hardware, it's easy to add ram, swap out a hard drive, etc. On the Pro, you're limited to adding memory.

The place I work (a University) is primarily a PC shop. We have seen more and more people buying MacBook laptops because they represent a good value and are sturdy machines. When we set them up, we're generally asked to set both Windows and Mac OS up on them. From what people tell me, they often start out on the PC side, then migrate to the Mac side as things like wireless work much easier.

People where I work have gotten the Airs - and I have held one in my greedy little hands. They are extremely light - I actually stopped when I had one in my bag to check to make sure it was still there.

I love my big iMac. The screen is beautiful, and I think it was worth the premium. If you're interested in learning a bit more about Macs, may I suggest you check out MacBreak Video (on iTunes) or MacBreak Weekly? There's also a new podcast called This Week in Photography (I've not listened) that may address some of your photo/video editing questions.

Now that would be fun! While you are at work, take a look at the new iPhone based RZM app (if you are not a manager, ask a manager if you can take a look). My team just built and delivered that (Cupertino, Global Business Intelligence).

Will do! I just love Cupertino I was there for Creative training last September i had a blast! Eat the awesome pizza at Cafe Max for me!

I hope that in a few years I can take part in that initiative they have for retail members to work in Cupertino. I need to finish my degree first, maybe i'll see you out there!

Bucky is definitely cool. He's the Siamese cat in Get Fuzzy (my avatar) - he and Satchel (the dog) always have a war of words and wits going, but deep down he loves Satchel the Pooch. And he doesn't like ferrets. Get Fuzzy is one of the funniest things out there, just like the roundtable!
