Hi, I've been to Disney many times, but always with a car for transportation OR have not stayed at any resorts with Monorail access. Would very much like to "ride" around the resorts and/or parks and experience the Monorail on our next trip. Can someone explain the routes or highlights of what to do/see? (Oh yea, we'll be at POP-I know we'll have to bus it to a monorail!!). Thanks so much!!

We love checking out the resorts along the monorail route. So....take the MK bus from POP, then hop on the monorail.....it will take you to the Contemporary, then to the TTC, then Polynesian, and finally the GF. You can get off and check out each resort.
You can also get off at the TTC, and change over to the Epcot line...that will take you through Epcot and then you can either get off and head to Epcot or change back to the TTC line.
I like to check out the resort gift shops. They all have a little bit different in each one.
The other thing I like to do is to take the boat to the WL...love that resort. You can take it from the MK dock. If you are at a resort and want to head to a particular park, just head to their bus stop and hop on the appropriate bus.

also, ask the monorail attendant if you can sit in the first car. you may have to wait for the next monorail, but it is something everyone should do at least once IMHO:thumbsup2

Just be sure you get on the resort monorail; not the express monorail. They are on two different tracks, so follow the signs. The resort monorail follows the clockwise loop that goofy4tink describes and stops at the three resorts, the TTC and the MK. On that line you can get off at each of the three resorts, then reboard a later train to continue your journey.

The express monorail, however, runs counter clockwise and stops only at the TTC and MK. From the express monorail, your only experience of the three resorts would be as you pass quickly by them.

Hmmm, restaurants.....Chef Mickeys at the CR but you need to book that one way in advance. And I'm not sure if the Concourse is still open. But, Kona Cafe at the Polynesian is good. And the Grand Floridian Cafe is very nice.

Any other ideas from some of the night visitors to this board??? Stops to see on the monorail routes and/or restaurants??? Thanks much

From Pop, you could also just bus to Epcot to start your journey (a shorter ride than to MK). Hop the monorail to the TTC. Then take the resort monorail to the Polynesian to shop and dine. Kona Cafe is great for all three meals. Next up is the GF. The GF Cafe is a very pretty restaurant that we like best for lunch. If you'll be there around dinner, I'd recommend Citricos or Narcoossee's. Next stop after the MK is the Contemporary with a fantastic choice for dinner....the California Grill. Hop back on the monorail to the TTC and transfer to the Ecpot monorail which leads to one of the coolest monorail rides. As it returns to Epcot, the monorail makes a loop around Future World.

But there are many variations. You could monorail to MK and catch the launch to the GF and then the Polynesian. Exit there for the monorail: Polynesian>GF>MK>CR>TTC. Then switch to the Epcot monorail and bus back to Pop.

And so forth and so on and.....:goodvibes

May I suggest if you have a day with no parks scheduled and do not want to rest take the WDW transportation tour like we did in July 2004. It is not an official tour but it is something I came up with for a day of our vacation. We were staying at POP like you and we left POP at 9:00 am and got back just before 9:00 pm.

Bus
POP to Epcot

Monorail
Epcot to TTC

Monorail
TTC to Poly to GF to MK
We got off at both the Poly & GF to look around

Motor Launch (Small Boat)
MK to GF to Poly to MK
We just stayed on the boat the whole time

Motor Cruiser (Bigger Boat)
MK to FW to WL to Cont to MK (I believe this is the order it ran)
We got off at the WL and ate lunch at the Whispering Canyon Café

Monorail
MK to Cont to TTC
We got off at the Contemporary and looked around

Monorail
TTC to Epcot

Bus
Epcot to POR (Port Orleans Riverside)
Looked around POR & POFQ

Ferry (Another Boat)
POFQ to DTD
We spent some time at DTD and ate dinner and shopped a bit and had our packages sent back to POP so we didn’t have to carry them around

Bus
DTD to Boardwalk
We hung out at the Boardwalk a bit, got a beer or two from Big River Grill and watched some Boardwalk performances

Friendship Boat
Boardwalk to YC/BC to Swan/Dolphin to DHS

Bus
DHS to POP

It made for a long day but we got to see a lot of the resorts and had fun just going around WDW without going to any of the parks.

WOW Steve, That's some full day!!! I will definately have a day free of parks and will use some of that information! Thanks so much. IF you remember, how long does it take the DTD stores to ship back to POP--same day/later that night, etc??

All purchases get to the resort gift shop the a day later...usually the following evening. So, be careful if you are leaving for home in the next day or so...you don't want to get caught without being able to pick up those purchases!!
