TSA tries soothing screening process

biting my tongue, biting my tongue, biting my tongue

Deleted my original reponse! :)

Ah, are you trying to get me into trouble?! I will let CarolA vent about the TSA and I will vent about the travellers.

I am still floored every week by the number of people who believe that the rules do not apply to them, and that they should be able to bring their litre size bottles of water through security.

Perhaps there would be less stress if people took a minute to educate themselves about the rules, and if others didn't believe that the rules do not apply to them...

A few weeks ago at LGA I counted 7 people ahead of me in the security line, but it took 20 minutes to get through. 5 of the 7 had bottles of water in their hands or peeking out of their knapsacks. And they were standing right next to the 'no liquids' sign for at least 15 minutes.

No amount of soothing lighting will impact this - if people don't think that rules apply to them lighting will not change their minds

I would rather have it like in Germany - harsh lighting, and security barking at people for being stupid. ;) Nothing like being direct!

Ah come on....cut them some slack.....they certainly don't think their unopened litre of water is what the TSA is talking about..it's those lesser people with the opened store brand bottles of water the TSA is talking about!!!!
I, too, had to wait behind a ton of folks who just couldn't figure out what that sign was telling them..no liguids/fluids. Oh, does that mean my unopened water too? Oh, I didn't realize you meant my expensive shampoo..you can't be serious. Do you know how much that costs??
But, I'm liking idea of spa-like music. Just as long as it isn't the music played on that video...sounds like Star Trek or some other outer space type music..not relaxing at all.
So....pretty soon I can go through the 'expert' line for security, with nice soothing music playing!! Yummy. Heaven help the uninformed family, that has flown one time, that gets in front of me in that 'expert traveler' line!!!

It should be interesting to see how this pans out. I think in concept a friendlier, less combative security check point would ease some people's minds. However in reality, I think all the people who don't know the rules, or don't care about them, and start arguing or bickering with the TSA is just going to toss the relaxed atmosphere out on it's ear.

"Mood lights and soothing music" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

"Ohmmmmmmm..... I refuse to take off my shooooooooooooes....... ohmmmmmmmmmmm....... does it really matter if the glass is half empty or half full? Just dump it out! Ohmmmmmmmmmmmm......"

DH had to attend a meeting with regard to the TSA and its new screening. Needless to say all the indicators are things that people do when standing in line waiting to get through security and needing to be somewhere on time. "Soothing" passengers won't make a difference on these indicators. Seems like a monumental waste of MONEY.

I'll refrain from saying more because I just really hate the TSA and think its practices and procedures are nuts and get nuttier by the day.

Now I'm worried - I bite my nails - does that make me suspicious? Then again, just sending this response over the internet puts me on some kind of list, I'm sure. Oh, I better stop now....

Unless they are handing out Valium, I don't really think it will do much to relax me, especially when I'm traveling with DS3.
:rolleyes1

I don't think biting of nails itself came up, but...

Well considering the main requirement to get hired appeared to be "I am a jerk" it's hard to imagine these same folks who were hired for thier abilty to YELL and harass will now be "kinder/gentler" :)

I fail to see out "music" and "lighting" are going to help. This is yet another waste of my tax dollars!!!!!

this sounds intresting....i wonder if it will actually work

Are you serious??!!??!!

And it's not just passengers the TSA treats this way. You would think they would treat Law Enforcement better, but alas I guess they feel THEY are law enforcement.
