Por favor, vamos a ir a San Juan en Diciembre. Que hay hacer? Sera solo mi esposo y yo. (Si ud. puede escribir en ingles, haz lo por favor. Mi espanol es mal.)
Muchas gracias.

Since you mentioned an English response, I'll be glad to answer. San Juan is my hometown, and even though I moved to a neighbouring island, I still go to SJ with some frequency, so I stay in touch with what's going on.

What kind of things do you like to do?

Thank you! Since we've rarely been outside of the US mainland, we'd like to see as much culture as possible. I'd like a recommendation for a real "local" place to eat for authentic Puerto Rican food. I'd also like to go to an open-air market if there is one. HOw about a theater or any type of local entertainment. Finally, snorkeling is my favorite thing to do. Is there good snorkeling in PR? We will be there this December.

Alrighty, real local... upscale, midscale, or divey?

Open air market... not exactly open air, but I recommend Plaza del Mercado in Santurce, Also, what I feel to be the best seafood in the San Juan is right there

Entertainment... in December it's too far out to tell, but there will be something for sure , lol.

Snorkelling... YES. On the east of the island you can get on a good boat, snorkel in Culebra- IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

Wow - thanks!
How about midscale to divey on the "local" food...what place can't you miss when you go to PR?

I would go to El Jibarito, located at 280 Calle Sol in Old San Juan

(btw, that link also has a quickie writeup on the previously mentioned market)

Things to do.. I'd say Old San Juan (which is somewhat mandatory ;) ), the rainforest (El Yunque, it's a nice half day trip from San Juan)... if you can get there, go to Culebra (neighboring island) and see Playa Flamenco- it is one of the top beaches on the planet. You either need to take a ferry (really cheap, only a few dollars each way) or you can fly (not that cheap... cheapest I've seen it is $60 round trip).

What else... if you can get to the south side of the island, I recommend Ponce (PR's second city, and another colonial gem). On the west of the island, I recommend Rincon (amazing beach, good surf, relaxing atmosphere), Cabo Rojo, and Mayagüez.

Muchas gracias, David, Mayra, y pr surfer (Rob?)!!
Me gusto mucho las fotos.
Lo pasaremos bien!

You should also go to Fajardo and take one of the day trips to the islands outside of Fajardo for snorkeling and a great day at the beach!

I was born in Fajardo and was finally able to take my DH & DD (10 & 8) last July and now my DDs wants us to buy there instead of the Jersey Shore - my DH is from Jersey.

Just walking around Old San Juan is great!

Have a great time!

El Jibarito in old San juan is a great restaurant, I love it!

I don't think anyone has mentioned the biolumenescence (sp?) bay, off the island of Vieques I think it is? I've personally never been there but it's supposed to be incredible.

You've gotten a lot of other great recommendations also. :) Have fun!

theres one in fajardo and another one in lajas, la parguera.... but you should only try to go when theres no moon so you can see it clearly if not you are gonna waste you time and see just small amount of it....

Oh!! La Parguera in Lajas is lovely, but definitely go with New Moon, I don't know the dates you are coming to PR but anyway you can check a moon calendar to schedule that. It's amazing to see how the water shines by itself.

You can check the Dry Forest in Guanica too.
